My story My name is Nadia. I’m from Kazakhstan and studied English in London in July 2013. Why did I go there? That’s a strange question with an obvious answer – if you want to learn a language well the best idea is study it in the country where it is spoken. I’m a very sociable person, but even if you are a little shy you will not be able to ignore the activities that the A2Z School organises, such as the game party, cinema evenings and tea parties. Sometimes you can also go somewhere on a group tour, which is very exciting and useful for your language skills. In my opinion, if you come to study English you should do your best to speak, speak and speak in English and don’t speak with someone in your own language. That’s why during my stay in London I lived with a host family. During my stay here I spoke my own language for just a few hours – great! We did a lot of fun things: One day we had classes in a museum. We visited Thorpe park amusement park which was one of my most exciting days in UK. We also went to the Bath. It is a small town and one of the most beautiful cities in the UK, it reminded me of Venice. During my weekends I also visited some clubs in London and had a lot fun there. My daily routine was to go to school, come home around 9pm (because of all the things that I used to do after my classes) then have dinner, check my homework and do some revision of the lessons I learned that day. Finally, I would go to bed and rest to recover my energy for new adventures the next day. I’d like to say that while in London I had such a great time! I met a lot of nice, friendly and cool people. I made some really good friends. I will really miss my vacation in London. And I’m sure I will come back here. Now I experienced it myself, I can tell you with certainty that studying in A2Z London is highly recommended!

Our teachers and classes

Meet our teachers QUESTION: What makes a great school? ANSWER: Great Teachers! An English school is only as good as the teaching staff and at A2Z we make sure we have the very best teachers to help you to learn English. Our teachers are from England, America, Australia and many other English speaking countries and have exceptional spoken English. They are all experienced teachers with the relevant qualifications to help you get the most out of your time in the UK and Ireland.

Here’s what a couple of our teachers have to say:

JAMES I’ve taught English to students of all ages in Poland,Taiwan and Japan. I enjoy teaching English because I get to meet people from all over the world (both students and colleagues) and because I love seeing progress in students’ ability to express themselves in a foreign language; students are also very entertaining! I love reading, watching art-house movies and photography.

Little Known Fact: James has travelled around the world!

A lot of our teachers have lived and taught English overseas, so they know what it feels like to be thousands of kilometres from home and have to make new friends and a new life. They all want to ensure that you don’t just learn better English at A2Z School of English but that you never feel bored or lonely! Our teachers arrange a variety of social events from football in the park to weekly tea parties and pub nights, where you can relax and practice your English with your new student and teacher friends!

RACHEL I’ve been teaching English for about 3 years including a year teaching in France. I’ve travelled a lot around Europe and I enjoy visiting new countries and learning about different cultures. I always wanted to teach English and studied teaching for 4 years at university. I love the English language and having the opportunity to help people get to where they want to be in life. I’m a Christian, so I spend a lot of free time getting involved with my church. I also like to hang out with my friends and go to new places.

Little Known Fact:

Rachel loves to bake lots of chocolate

How the A2Z Method works The teacher asks a question speaking very quickly just like a native speaker and then repeats the question to be sure students understand.

The A2Z Method is so successful because every student is involved all of the time. Each lesson is structured as though it is an informal test of listening, speaking, grammar and sentence construction. This way, whenever a mistake is made, your teacher will correct you instantly,

The teacher chooses a student to answer the question.

The teacher then helps the student to answer the question and will correct pronunciation, grammar and any other mistakes.

so there is no opportunity to pick up bad speaking habits.

About London Our London school is in Wimbledon, only minutes away from the world famous All England Lawn Tennis Club and a short tube ride to central London. In 1777, Samuel Johnson, the man who wrote the very first Dictionary of English Language wrote about London:

“...when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.” And that is still true today. London is one of the busiest and coolest cities in the world. It is an exciting mix of historic and modern architecture, traditional and new cultures, busy streets full of people and huge open parks. Whatever you want to eat, you will be able to buy it in London and whatever music you want to listen to, you will find a venue that plays it. If you are looking for an incredible and intense life experience then London is the city for you!

Why study at our London School? • Wimbledon has a lovely town centre • Students can stay in great accommodation locally

• We arrange fun social events all year round • There are fantastic transport links to central London - just 15 minutes away

Wimbledon is the best place to learn English in London. One reason is that there are many nearby homestays so you should spend less time travelling to school than if you study in central London. In addition Wimbledon is one of the nicest areas in London and has great parks, shops and transport to central London. Many famous people including film stars and politicians live in Wimbledon.

We’re here to help

Your accommodation Making our students feel happy and comfortable is a big part of what we do at A2Z. We offer three types of accommodation and our dedicated Accommodation Manager will help you find the perfect place to live.

MOST HOM ACCOMMO ESTAY DATION IS LESS Juniors’ Accommodation If you are under 18 years of age, there are special rules which apply to you when it comes to accommodation and our Accommodation Manager will be available to assist and guide you. Under-16 students who book individually must stay with one of our vetted host families (unless they are staying with relatives, which must be confirmed in writing). Accommodation for groups of under-16 students can be arranged either in homestays or in halls of residence – in the latter case so long as their group leaders are present overnight.

Homestay Most of our students choose to stay in an English speaking home where they are able to spend time with the host family, learn more about English culture and practice speaking English. A lot of our families have hosted students for many years and all homestays are inspected regularly to ensure they meet our high standards. The accommodation includes a private single room, bedding, laundry facilities and internet access. Our standard homestay includes breakfast and evening meal taken with the family every day, and lunch at weekends. We can provide customised homestays if you require special food or to be closer to the school, subject to availability, and we will charge extra to arrange this.

“A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE” Student residences Choosing to live in a shared student residence is a very social way to enjoy your time away from home. You will live with other students so will get lots of opportunity to socialise and practise speaking English. You will have to do your own cooking but for students who want to make the most of the Great British nightlife a student residence is a great place to live!

Hotels and hostels We can also arrange for you to stay in a hotel or hostel. Hotels and hostels are good for short stays, but are quite expensive when compared with homestay or our student residences. However, you might not socialise as much and might speak English less than in a homestay.

House / Flat share Many of our students choose to share a house or flat with others and can opt for either a single private room or a twin room shared with one other. Students share a bathroom and kitchen and are responsible for cooking their own meals. Living in a house / flat share offers you independence but you’ll never be lonely as you will be living alongside your house/flat mates - and you’ll have lots of chances to practice your English with them.

We’re here to help

Student Support A2Z is committed to the welfare of all of its students. We want to make you feel welcome and help you settle in when you first arrive. Our reception team are all former students so they understand what it’s like to start life in a new school in a new city. Between them they speak 10 languages and are always available to help with practical issues, such as: • Opening a bank account • Finding a doctor or dentist • Using public transport • Finding a place to worship

For any problems the reception team cannot help with, you can make an appointment to see the dedicated School Manager. Junior students (12-17 years old) also have access to the Child Protection Officers 24 hours a day.

Student induction

Visas

For students starting lessons on Monday you will be invited to our weekly welcome session. Here you can meet other new students, learn about the school, the teachers and our support services. A copy of our Student Guide will also be available to help you with any other questions you might have.

Students from outside the European Economic Area often need to apply for a visa before they travel to the UK or Ireland. Because our schools have accreditations we are able to support your application for a visa if you enrol on a course. Ireland has different rules to the UK, but in general the process is as follows:

Arriving

• Enrol on a course with A2Z and pay your tuition fees

If you need a transfer from the airport, we can help you book a private taxi or give advice about public transport. Under 16s travelling alone must book our airport pick-up and drop-off service.

• Use these documents, together with other evidence to complete your visa application

• A2Z will send you confirmation documents

• Apply to the UK or Irish Embassy for your visa This is only a very general guide and you should visit our website www.a2z-english.com/visas for more detailed information.
