Chapter 1: A Book in the Refrigerator “Grandpa, look! I found a book in the refrigerator.” said Horry, “But, grandpa, why the book is so old and in the refrigerator?” “Oh, my dear, look at it. It isn’t a book. It is a cooking book.” said grandpa. “It is amazing. Horry, do you know what the name of your grand-grand-grandfather is?” asked grandpa slowly, but excited. “Yes, it’s Jiffy, Jiffy Bear. And?” “The author of this book is your grand-grandgrandfather, Jiffy. Haven’t I told you that your grand-grand-grandfather was a successful and the best cook in this island?” said grandpa with his unbelievable and hoarse voice. “No.” “Ok, let me told you this wonderful story which is about a crazy honey bear who wanted to travel around the Europe to find the best dessert.” So, Horry and her grandpa sat on the grass under a cherry tree and spent all the Sunday afternoon listening to the story. The story was about a crazy honey bear that traveled around the world to find the best dessert and finally met his soul mate.

Chapter 2: Jiffy Jiffy was a honey bear who lived in a forest on an island without names, so let’s call it The Island. In the forest, there were one big cottage and one burrow. Jiffy lived in the cottage by a big cellular. Around the cottage were a lot of cherry trees and sunflowers. Jiffy loved honey very much, so he changed the honey with the bees by a bug cherry pies which were made by 100 cherries. In the burrow, there was a marmot family. There were fifteen marmots, one mother, Nancy who always wore a pink apron and one father, Andrew who has gray beard on the chin and there thirteen little marmots. So, Jiffy and the marmots were the only members on The Island. In the forest, there was a river and by the river was a farm which was full of potatoes. The potatoes were very important food in the forest because the only thing they could eat was potatoes, cherries, and honey. In fact, there were only few dishes they ate, cherry pies, steamed potatoes, potatoes salad, baked potatoes, fried potatoes, and honey cake. Sometimes, Jiffy would make some cherry jam with honey for marmot family and for himself. -4-

Time passed. One day Jiffy has no appetite and it really scared Nancy. She made Jiffy’s favorite honey cake, but Jiffy only had a bite, and then lied back on his soft light blue bed. Jiffy thought all night long and he just could not figure out why he suddenly had no appetite. Just in a second he smelled a very strange aroma. “It doesn’t smell bad, but great and even wonderful. But, what is it? I have not smelled it since I was born on this forest.” “I know it. I know why I have no appetite.” Jiffy left his home with his brown dots pajamas or you cam say he was running out of his home and put his head in the borrow to wake up the marmots even though it was only five o’clock in the morning. “Wake up! Nancy, Andrew, wake up. It’s me, Jiffy. I want to tell you something very important.” “Oh gosh, you, the nuts bear. What do you want?” said angry Nancy and she still wore her pink apron. “Hey, wake up. Wake up. I decide to leave here and travel around outside world.” “Excuse me?” said Andrew and his eyes were still closed. “I say I am going to take a long trip.” Jiffy spoke word by word. After hearing what Jiffy said, Nancy used her short right hand to touch Jiffy’s forehead. She and Andrew started whispering, but Jiffy still heard them very -5-

clearly.

He said “I’m not having a fever or going crazy. I just figure out what I really want. I want to…” Before Jiffy finished his sentence, the youngest child, Fiona, she hugged Jiffy’s toes because she was too tiny to touch Jiffy’s hand. She said “Jiffy, can I go with you?” with her shiny eyes and full of tears, “I don’t want to lose you; otherwise I cannot eat my favorite Honey cake for a long long long…” Before Fiona finish her one hundred times “long” to make everybody understand it was really a long time, Andrew left his bed and put on his lovely hand-made flip-flops. He carried Fiona on his shoulder and told Jiffy that no matter what his decision was he would support him forever, including the whole marmot family. Then, Andrew lied back to his bed and started to snore like thunder. Jiffy pulled his head out of the borrow. Although pulling head out hurt Jiffy a lot, the excitement of taking trip covered the headache. Right now, the most important thing Jiffy should do was find a transport; therefore he could leave this island without swimming to the other -6-

unknown land. Jiffy had no idea. He finally gave up thinking and instead of taking a nice sleep.

Chapter 3: First Day “I’m flying. No! I’m driving an airplane. Whose airplane is it? Is it the plane that crashed on the beach? Isn’t it broken?” Jiffy heard a very loud noise. It sounded like a thunderstorm was coming. Jiffy opened his eyes and saw his lovely pillow and understood he was dreaming, but what a strange dream. Everything was so real and he even saw his cottage and the chimney was still smoking and Andrew was waving at him with a red flag. Jiffy went out and what he saw was really surprised him. He saw a green plane which had a black bear’s foot print on the left wing. The propeller kept moving. “Hello, somebody is there?” Suddenly, a little thing jumped out from the cockpit. It was Nancy. Nancy was wearing a blue helmet with the pattern of white waves. She looked like hippies, but a hippie who wore a pink apron. Although she looked really funny, Jiffy was really curious why Nancy was in the plane and where she got the plane. Nancy walked slowly and the wind blew her hair. She took of the helmet. All the actions in Jiffy’s eyes were just like she was shooting a movie. She stood by Jiffy and said, “This is a gift from my mother when I -8-

was sixteen. She was a pilot and she joined the Pearl Harbor War. And now, I give this plane to you to wish you have a nice journey. Moreover, be careful.” “But, Nancy, I have no idea about driving a plane.” “Don’t worry. I have already written down all the steps for you. Here is it. All you need to do is following the steps, but about the landing part. It is the most important and also difficult part for the beginner. Don’t worry. It will become better and better when you get used to it.” Andrew came out and gave Jiffy a huge basket of cherry pan cake and honey tea. Jiffy’s eyes were full of tears. He gave Andrew and Nancy a real bear hug or you can say he just took them in his arms, such as there were two babies in his arms. They helped him to take the suitcases on board. There were total six big suitcases, so it took them the entire morning to do it. Finally, Jiffy was ready to take off and the marmots were all came to say good-bye. “Bye, Jiffy. Don’t forget to bring us some delicious food.” said Fiona and her brothers and sisters. And then, the plane started moving. Jiffy pulled up the joystick and it took off and flew higher and higher until he couldn’t see his cottage.

Chapter 4: First stop- Prague Now, Jiffy was surrounded by clouds. He couldn’t see anything. He felt he was in a large steam room, but cold, not hot. He put on his favorite gloves which were made by Fiona. Although the gloves have a lot of little hole, he still thought they were the best gifts. It was about two o’clock in the afternoon. He had already flown three hours. He was really hungry, so he took out the pan cake Andrew gave to him to eat. “Oh, Andrew. Maybe I should go back. I can’t leave them alone on The Island.” Jiffy cried loudly. He cried like someone catches his fingernail in a door. After flying thirty minutes, he found out that the view became more and more clear. There were a lot of triangles down there, blue, red, white. He flew down and tried to land. However, the plane started shaking. Jiffy tried to handle it, but the plane was out of control. He almost collapsed onto the ground. He pulled up the joystick with his whole strength. Finally, he landed on a red and white triangle root. A cuckoo ran out of the house and screamed with her cuckoo sound, such as cuuuuuuuuckoo. She said “Are you nuts? Are you sent by -10-

the Japanese army? I heard that they have a suicide squad. Are you one of them?” Jiffy climbed out the plane when the cuckoo kept talking and afraid of herself could not get the insurance money because she was killed by a plane, not illness. Jiffy said, “Sorry, miss. I didn’t mean to kill you or destroy your roof. I just wanted to find a place to land.” Jiffy explained his ambition and why he wanted to leave his hometown to the cuckoo. Ms. Cuckoo’s name was Bella, a cookie baker. When Bella knew Jiffy was also a good dessert maker, she invited him to join the Best Baker Cup competition as her assistant. Jiffy agreed, but the deal was Bella had to let Jiffy, stayed in her house for one night. Bella made Jiffy stay in the guest room. Inside the guest room, there were a tea table, a bed with many colorful dots, a photo of an unknown forest. “Where is the forest?” asked Jiffy. “Oh, you don’t know? It is Wienerwald. It is in Austria. You can go there someday and you won’t believe what you have seen. When you arrived there, you will feel you seem staying in the fairy tales.” “Ok, my nest stop will be Vienna, Austria. Now, I want to look around. Would you like to be my tour guide?” “Yes, of course. Let me introduce our famous plaza, Prague -11-

Square, first. They hang out all night. They went to Prague Square, Kafka Center, and Wenceslas Square. They got home at ten fifteen, and Bella made a wonderful cheese pie for Jiffy. She told him that the cheese pie would be the topic of her competition tomorrow, so Jiffy would need to remember the smell well. After enjoying the cheese pie, they all had a nice sleep. The next morning, they went to the competition court on foot. They passed by a boulevard and there were two lines of tall camphor trees by the road. After passing by three blocks, they arrived. There were lots of the competitors, rabbits, turtles, monkeys, elephants, and chipmunks. The competition started. All of them moved their hands as quickly as they could. Jiffy and Bella looked like two spiders. Jiffy was responsible for put the pie on the bake ware and Bella would put four pieces of mozzarcllacheese. After ten minutes, the smell of cheese pies was full of the air. After twenty minutes, the match ended and the champion was monkeys because their tales helped as their third hands. Jiffy and Bella got a second place. Jiffy and Bella couldn’t believe it. Jiffy rose up Bella and put her on his shoulder. They screamed and -12-

danced. They seemed happier than the monkeys. Tears covered Bella’s faces because she was very happy. It was her first time won the prize. Bella decided to give Jiffy twenty pies as a gift. Rest of the pies she wanted to share with the poor. “Thank you very much, Jiffy. Now, I want to gave you twenty five pies in return and please accept them. Here is an address. When you arrive at Vienna, go to the address and my friend, Anderson will help you.” So, Jiffy carried the twenty pies with him and left for the next stop, Vienna.

Chapter 5: The Second Stop, Vienna Jiffy left for the next stop, Vienna. Sometimes, he flew in the cloud and sometimes he flew on the surface of the sea. He watched the dolphins swam and made some tricks. The sky was so blue. He kept flying until he saw a huge forest. “It was the forest on the picture.” Jiffy said loudly. He decided to find a place to land. He crossed the forest and saw a wonderful village. The village seemed to be decorated by flowers or it was a flower kingdom. Every house’s windows or doors were filled with flowers, roses, tulips, red cosmoses, purple cosmoses, and daffodils climbed up the walls. Jiffy landed his plane in a parking lot and usually it was for cars. Jiffy took out the sheet and tried to find the address on it. He went into a market and passed by a park. Finally, he found it. The house was very unique. It was brown and had some notation on it. He opened the little black door, and then he called out the name on the sheet “Anderson home? Is this Anderson’s house? Hello?” “Stop yelling! Who are you, little bear?” said a little white and grey rabbit with glasses. “I am Jiffy. Do you know Bella? She told me to -14-

come here to find you.” “Which Bella, the Bella lives in a tree or the Bella loves baking?” asked the rabbit with his doubtful eyes. Jiffy said certainly, “The Bella loves baking.” “Bingo Bingo. You are right. In fact, there is no Bella who lives in a tree. I just want to test you. Come in. I’m Anderson, a composer. Bella phoned me yesterday to inform me to take a good care of you. Come in. Don’t stand outside.” said Anderson nicely. When Jiffy went into the house, what he saw is hundreds of wrinkled papers which were scattered on the stairs. Anderson was so embarrassed when he realized that he hadn’t cleaned his house since last time his mother came to visit him. Anderson used his feet to wipe those papers away. They finally “arrived” at the guest room in the third floor. The sunshine ran into the room from a round window. On the round window there was an old dark brown violin with wooden stripes. There was also a little table and a little wooden chair. Of course Jiffy couldn’t sit on it; otherwise he would stock in it. After taking a nap, Anderson took Jiffy to a concert. They enjoyed a wonderful Mozart Symphony. Then, on the way home they saw a café which was selling blueberry ice cream. They both had one and it -15-

tasted a little bit sour and sweet. Jiffy was shocked because of the flavor. He ran into the kitchen and caught the cook’s collar. “Did you make this? Is it you? Do you make this fantastic dessert?” Jiffy asked with his shiny eyes. “Yes. I made it. So what? Get off your hands from me, you the fat and impolite bear.” said the cook, Mr. Smith with his small brown eyes. “Oh, I’m sorry, but I’m begging you. Would you please, please tell me how to make it? I am begging you.” Jiffy put his hands in the prayer’s position. After twenty minutes struggling, the cook decided to make a deal with Jiffy. The deal was that Jiffy had to help him to clean the kitchen. The next morning Jiffy woke up very earlier, and even the sun hadn’t wakened up. He walked fast, and then he started to run. Finally, he ran as fast as the lion. He just couldn’t hide his exciting. He tight a scarf on his head and wore a face mask. He spent three hours cleaning a 5 m2 kitchen. Now, you can image how dirty it was. Until the noon, Mr. Smith came and he was almost blinded by the light of the clean table. Therefore, Jiffy got the recipe. He left happily. He kept dancing and singing until he got home. -16-

Anderson just woke up. He was brushing his teeth while Jiffy opened the door. He laughed loudly and said “Ha. Ha. I did it. I did it. I finally cleaned up that terribly dirty kitchen.” Anderson ran out of the toilet when he heard Jiffy. They held hands together and circling. However, Jiffy got a new problem. Where he should go next? “Maybe you can go to Germany. I heard that there is an amazing chocolate. It produces excellent chocolates.” “Ok, then my next stop is Germany.”

-17-

Chapter 6: The Final Stop, Germany Jiffy left there immediately because he couldn’t wait to find the dreamed chocolates. He kept thinking how the chocolates would taste like. When he flew across a big lake, he heard somebody crying. He stopped on grassland and there he saw another honey bear. He was very excited because it was the first time he saw another bear. He got closed to him or her. He got closer and closer. He opened his mouth and just he made a voice, E. The bear spoke. “Who is it?” “I’m sorry. I’m Jiffy. I just want to make sure that every thing is all right because you seemed like crying.” “Oh, it’s ok. I’m crying because I lost my cell phone. I cannot call my mo to pick me up.” “Where do you want to go?” asked Jiffy, “Maybe I can get you a ride.” “Really? That will be nice. I have to go Munich. I live there.” “It is the same place I planned to go. Come with me. But, Are you afraid of being high place?” They went to Munich together and Jiffy also got the bear’s number and name. Her name was Debbie. Debbie also helped Jiffy fine the chocolate shop. Moreover, Debbie was also a dessert maker. After discussing with her mom, she decided to travel with Jiffy. Jiffy was very -18-

happy because he wouldn’t be alone anymore. He got a partner and she is very smart and kind. He seemed falling in love with her. In the end, they got married in Italy. At their wedding party, most of the food was made by cheese and spaghetti. They traveled over twenty countries and tried more then one hundred desserts. They recorded every dish they ate and made a recipe when is only for their sons and daughters. “And here it is. Horry, this is the recipe which was made by your grand, grand, grandfather and mother. You must keep it safely. Now, I’m tired and the story is ended. You should go bed, too. Good night.” He yawned and went to bed. Horry went to bed too, but he held that old recipe with him. At that night he also made a dream about travelling and flying. Maybe he will go on traveling one day, too.
