I have lived in my fantasy, with lots of stories to tell and thoughts that cannot be expressed.

As an inspiring student of architecture, using space, color, and energy to bring more imagination to the world. Architecture becomes an opportunity to solve problems, tell, or even create stories.

The urban fabric of Taipei is heavily shape by public transport, the transient movement of points and dots has shaped the form of life of Taipei's citizens, and we have begun to focus on individual culture, mainly at the expense of the total participation of the city's public space, breaking the original city into more private space.

It has caused the fission of the Taipei city, sense of city isolation becomes more and more intense, the frequency of people participate in public community activities has also decrease accordingly, distributed community will never interact with others. As time goes by, people have lost the connection between individuals and groups under the influence of the metropolitan.

Strategy

Activities that happen in the park of CKS are arranged by a matrix plan after resetting the MRT station. Functions in the park are planned to complement other programs on the site, which create plazas to allow different activities to take place.

With an organic cortex, group activities are taking place above the park, while independent programs are happening in each container, under the cortex.

coexistence of ideology political ideology

In the past, political ideologies rationalized the CKS Memorial Hall as a symbol of authoritarianism, the way the public engages with the memorial hall has been limit under this framework.

personal ideology

Through an ideological reset, we envisioned that if everyone could leave a memento of themselves here, a product of their ideology, thereby returning the power of public activities to the citizens.

all in one one in all

In the OMA book Content, a social condenser is described as a "Programmatic layering upon vacant terrain to encourage dynamic coexistence of activities and to generate through their interference, unprecedented events."

CKS is a

for Taipei, giving people time and opportunity to think.

We consider the park of CKS as the largest piece of isolated region in the Taipei city, hoping here is a start as a social condenser to become a meeting point of the urban life in Taipei.

In Taipei, we believe that it is more important to use the overlapping of these events to help individuals better understand their position in the city through interaction with other groups.

In this way, people can feel the relationship between individuals and groups, and re-examine their position in the big city of Taipei.

AUTHORITY INDIVIDUAL

object symbol

Imagine CKS Memorial Hall cut into countless containers free from the constraints of time, life, and the city, with individuals and groups in the same container. These containers represent the ideal world free from the restriction of the metropolis, combining sensory and emotional. Memory space experiences allow people to temporarily detach from the city and rethink the urban landscape of Taipei.

The base is located in the canal activity area of Tainan City, which used to be one of the city's centers known as "Old China Town" with a concentration of entertainment such as restaurants, department stores, amusement parks, and theaters, as well as hotels. However, in 1993, the widening of Hai'an Road caused a reduction in pedestrian traffic between China Town and Zhongzheng Road, leading to a gradual decline in activity and a disconnect between the base and Tainan City.

We are considering how to revitalize the energy in the city's peripheral areas, absorb urban vitality, establish daily life rituals, and convey information, treating buildings as the city's living room and the ground floor as a playground where people can gather and reconnect without cost. The buildings would become a unifying force for the city.

In contrast to most urban blocks in Tainan — which are typically inward and mixed — this project forms a penetrating force.

The gaps between the skin and the spatial units produce semi-outdoor spaces, conveying a permeable and breathable image, where views, air, and people intersect between the building and the city.

The building absorbs the life of the city.

The urban route through the building leads to unpredictable interactions between the building and the city, residents and tourists, connecting the culturally rich base with Tainan's various museums, libraries, and historical sites.

This project plan serves as an urban absorber, consisting of two components: a mixeduse commercial building and a community center.

The latter includes exhibition spaces, offices, co-working spaces, hotels, cafes, bookstores, fitness centers, restaurants, green spaces for recreation, and an underground public parking lot.

The mixed-use commercial building incorporates coworking spaces, fashion brand headquarters, and hotel management cooperation, creating a new start-up office space and tourist hub in the city.

The brand show itself forms the core of this project, located in the center, and is organized into an embedded space sequence that runs through the entire building and surrounds functions: housing, offices, and penetrable corridors.

The passage : starts from the underground, with a swimming pool and skateboarding terrain, echoing the elements of the "Tainan Spring" and forming a relationship between the ground and the strata.

The upward movement connects the panoramic view of the entire Tainan waterfront and the overall development of the Tainan city’s edge. The roof skin expresses the absorbing symbol that brings people together and forms an active rooftop plaza, reflecting activity at both the top and bottom.

Third Floor

The community center introduces a new symbolic element: the creation of a mass between the building and the city.

The trapezoidal mass conveys a sense of cohesiveness and is embedded in the upper part, forming an open plane as the city's living room.

The lower level features a sheltered public square, providing a venue for cultural activities related to surrounding temples.

As visitors enter the mass, they pass through the community and enter the transparent outer layer, finally reaching deep inside the mass, creating a ritualistic sense of spatial transformation, similar to switching between daily life routines, allowing the building and the city to begin functioning.

When considering a response to this issue, the response to social housing would be "Housing that meets the needs of the local community.”

The social needs primarily revolve around environmental, and economic... concerns, and ultimately serve as a social public building in the heart of Tainan's ancient city. We want to address its unique local collective consciousness in response. Reflecting on Tainan's social status and activity patterns, historically, Tainan's economy was centered, and residential and commercial areas were densely mixed. Life in the old days and the deep-rooted sense of camaraderie between people were closely tied to temples and alley spaces.

Facing the imminent undergrounding of the railway, which has separated the eastern and central-western districts for centuries, we contemplate the impact of this historical juncture on Tainan.

Today, discussing social housing in this geographical context, facing the commercial central-western district and the National Cheng Kung University area in the east, we consider this to be a focal point where different age groups will interact intensively.

We want to respond to this issue by drawing on Tainan's urban memory of mixed residential and commercial areas, reflecting on modern life and the scale of human relationships in Tainan's alleys through coexistence with commercial activities, enabling different social groups to live together because of social housing.

We attempt to analyze the local customs of living and commercial relationships in Tainan through the market and mixed-use spaces in the city.

By examining the section and street relationships, it responds to our proposal of using Tainan's longstanding urban memory of mixed residential and commercial areas as the foundation concept

By analyzing the population distribution, pedestrian flow, and nodes, which intertwine different groups , forming interesting relationships that serve as the basis for configuration.

Firstly, we introduce the assumption of light rail transportation, facilitating the development of transportation. Next, the extension of the red brick pathway implies the context of the southern historical sites and the relationship formed after the establishment of social housing.

Ground Floor

By categorizing the functionalities of the buildings and generating hierarchies, along with the involvement of different users and time factors, diverse activities converge and share space. Social housing will carry more energy, forming an urban incubator.

Housing unit types create different form of living, correspond to various needs of user.

Then placing various public space in the social housing, such as coworking center, community center, etc, these program connect the different part of this project together by activities and the platform spaces.

Section Coexistent scale : 1 / 1250

Section Temple scale : 1 / 1250

Section Market scale : 1 / 1250

Lastly, the upper-level corridor transforms into a community park, bridging between the park and the new educational building.

Temple and market are another typical architecture type of space in Taiwan . In addition to their original spatial functions, we focus on the benefits brought by the plazas in front of their buildings, adding commercial zones and light rail stations.

Alley is typical space form in Tainan, we aim to create an atmosphere reminiscent of alleyways, evoking memories of the city. Despite being in different buildings, residents feel close to each other because of the space while various activities happen simutaneously.

Plug-in Mobility hypothetical city concept

2024 spring - 2024 summer

In the 1900s, to design an airplane capable of "rising almost vertically from the ground" remains a challenge, a man named Mr. H. T. Hanson proposed a solution, which involved creating a circular, high-banked track made of light yet strong iron gratings. This design would allow sunlight and air to reach the streets below.

As technology continues to advance, eVTOLs, electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles have become a reality. The future of urban development is trending towards vertical expansion, with commute times increasing as buildings grow taller. I envision airside transportation becoming the norm. Consequently, a comprehensive system of public transportation that connects the air, ground, and underground will be necessar y to plug into the city.

Hong Kong serves as a model city for this concept, attempting to plug in this system and develop upwards into the sky.

From Archigram's urban infrastructure, modularity and systematization, we can build a vision for the future city system. The initial concept involves plug in multiple air landing platforms on the exteriors of skyscrapers, aligning with the vertical development of cities. eVTOLs will land on these platforms, while crane ways and robotic arms will operate busily in the air, handling goods, people, and popular culture descending from the sky to the ground.

Plug-in mobility will become the city's mass transit system, encompassing sea, land, air, and underground transportation.

Archigram, a British architectural group that draws inspiration from technology to create a new reality through hypothetical projects. Their architecture was never built—just a massive framework into which units or standardized components of housing can be inserted.

Machines have taken over, and people are the raw materials being processed. The difference is that people should enjoy this experience.

Moduar unit - Modular mobility air / land / ocean / underground (light rail)

The eVTOL lands on the platform and is transported via a conveyor. Mechanical arms detach and store the wings, while the unit capsules are transported downwards by the central structure's grippers.

The unit capsules are transferred to +0 level, entering the logistics warehouse space, where automated storage serves as the port's receiving and dispatching point.

The unit capsules are transported via a flat conveyor to the edge of the building near the interchange.

The unit capsules enter the subway at the lower level, where mechanical arms install track wheels. They are then transferred via a flat conveyor to different platform tracks.

The unit capsules descend vertically into a parking tower, where car chassis units are stored. After installation, they merge onto the interchange via an elevated bridge or enter the city at ground level via a spiral ramp.

The plug-in structure transports the unit capsules upwards and sideways, delivering them to the doors of hotel rooms.

The urban impression of Hong Kong is highrise buildings occupying each street block, interspersed with a bustling harbor, floating islands of cargo and goods, an extensive subway system, and intersecting elevated walkways creating varied elevation levels.

People and vehicles move across these multiple layers. In the vision of plug-in mobility, Hong Kong's infrastructure will continue to develop into a modular and systematic megastructure.

Using one of Hong Kong's original TOD types, the International Financial Center, as a base, establish high-rise buildings that integrate offices, residences, hotels, and transit facilities.

Ground-level TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) facilities will serve as hubs for receiving and dispatching unit carriers, establishing an urban transportation network. This network will use various unit vehicles from different fields, combining unit carriers to form different modes of movement.
