2023 SHANNONS ADELAIDE RALLY TO BE BIGGER THAN EVER

After the 2022 event impressed, plans are already well underway for 2023 with the continued backing of Shannons Insurance

The 2022 Shannons Adelaide Rally was run and won over the course of three days of action in and around Adelaide in late 2022, with locals Richard Lovell and Karl Radziszewski taking the outright honours in a Subaru STI Spec C. Bumper crowds turned out to the event across the three days, from the Gouger Street Party on Friday night, lunch stops in Uraidla and Strathalbyn, the special spectator stage between Aldgate and Stirling (Wairoa Stage) and the final stage in Victoria Park, which marked the return of motorsport to the Adelaide Street Circuit four days before the start of the VALO Adelaide 500.

It was at the latter where South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas announced two million dollars in funding over four years to provide four years of certainty for the Adelaide Rally.

Organisers say it is the largest tarmac rally event in the world, featuring more than 300 cars across various categories, with brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, McLaren and more in a field with a combined worth in excess of $100 million.

Car dealerships including Zagame, Solitaire, Mercedes-Benz Adelaide, BMW-Mini and more participated in the event with their own tour groups.

The 2023 Adelaide Rally will be held across November 17, 18 and 19 – the week before the Adelaide 500 – and is expected to be even bigger than in 2022 with organisers stating it is expected to break its previous entry record of over 420 cars.

Autobarn’s motorsport involvement from the highest level to the grass-roots level was also represented on this fun day, with 20-year-old Autobarn sponsored Kart racer and automotive engineering student Madi Bickerton also taking part, bringing along her racing kart for all to see and hear.

Tickford Racing also brought one of the team’s Ford Mustang Supercar display cars to the event, adding to the many photo opportunities available for BAPCOR staff members.

Even the Easter Bunny found its way into this fun morning event with a coffee van and plenty of hot cross buns and easter eggs shared around for all who took part.

Along with showcasing Autobarn, one of Australia’s leading car parts and accessories retailers, Tickford Racing also promotes 4WD parts and accessories retailer Opposite Lock. The team also uses and recommends BAPCOR’s exclusive Chicane Tools range.

Richard Lovell and Karl Radziszewski were joined on the outright podium by fellow South Australians Matthew Selley and Hamish McKendrick in second place and Ben Auld and Lucy Barker in third place.

The Adelaide TT award for highest-placed nonSouth Australian entries went to Tasmanians Scott Coppleman and Matt Van Rooye. 2023 plans underway with continued backing from Shannons Insurance

Shannons Insurance will continue to be the naming-rights sponsor of the Adelaide Rally, signing a new multi-year deal for 2023 and 2024.

“Now we have certainty surrounding motorsport in South Australia thanks to the Malinauskas Labour Government, we are seeing more longterm deals done like this. Companies are investing for the long term now,” Shannons Adelaide Rally Event Director, Tim Possingham, said.

“The Shannons Adelaide Rally has long and proud history with Shannons Insurance and we share their passion for motorsport and motor enthusiasts. We will see more growth in this space over the coming years and Shannons will be with us on that journey.”

“Shannons Insurance is proud to partner with the Adelaide Rally again for 2023 and 2024, as naming-rights sponsor of the event. Shannons Insurance shares your passion for your car, with the Shannons Adelaide Rally bringing together hundreds of car enthusiasts and their cars,” Shannons Insurance Business Development Manager in SA, Jeff Hughes, said.

After running the 2022 event under interim rules upon the release of the Motorsport Australia Tarmac Rally Review Panel findings, the 2023 Adelaide Rally will see a return to competition categories, including the outright competition run under new Motorsport Australia technical rules. Entries will open early in 2023.
