NARVA HEAVY-DUTY LED WORK LAMP RANGE EXPANDS

The range is now broader than ever

Narva continues to expand its heavy-duty LED work lamp range, offering a broad choice of models to suit a wide range of user applications. The latest entrants are available in either a spot or flood beam pattern and are designed to provide users with added convenience and practicality. Both feature strong light output courtesy of 9x5W Cree LEDs that produce and impressive 3600 Lumens of bright white light (5700°K), for optimum visibility. These figures translate to 135 metres of penetration for the spot beam lamp (part no. 72712HS) and coverage of 50 by 20 metres for the flood beam variant (part no. 72712H). A key feature common to both lamps is a large, integrated handle that allows easy adjustment, as well as an integrated on/off switch at the rear. This versatility makes the new lamps ideal for applications where regular adjustment is required.

Given the nature of the work and tough environments that the work lamps will likely be used in, they feature heavy duty construction and are fully sealed and waterproof to IP68. Other benefits to aid longevity include a powder-coated aluminium housing, a “virtually unbreakable” polycarbonate lens, stainless steel mounting hardware and the reliability of an inbuilt Deutsch connector. Narva says these heavy-duty LED work lamps are also EMC-approved, meaning they won’t interfere with on-board electronic and communication devices, while a low current draw of 1.4A @ 12V ensures minimal drain on vehicle batteries. The new lamps are also backed by a comprehensive five-year LED warranty. For more information, visit www.narva.com.au

BRAKE SHIMS

In this article, Bendix explains brake shims and why they’re important

Brake shims are an important component in the braking system that help absorb vibration and reduce noise, leading to a quieter and more enjoyable driving experience. Attached to the friction pad backing, brake shims provide a barrier between the brake pad and the caliper, helping to prevent small vibrations. It is important to recognise that some level of noise is inevitable when brakes are applied, given the friction that’s occurring between the pad and disc rotor. When the brake pad meets the rotor, coupling occurs and subsequently vibrations follow, building into noise. A well-engineered braking system and accompanying hardware can minimise the noise, with high quality shims playing a part in this process. Using a clever multi-layered design and composition that includes varying grades of metal, viscoelastic polymers, elastomeric rubbers, fiberglass and bonding materials, brake shims provide dampening qualities. Bendix explains that its brake pad shims for passenger cars are fibre impregnated, with the rubber shims designed and engineered to meet OE standards and to work within manufacturers’ tolerances, ensuring they continue to meet the original engineering ‘tune’ of the vehicle. This tune which is honed during vehicle NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) testing, aims to keep brake noise emissions to a range that falls outside human hearing, or at the very least to minimise it so it’s not audible in the cabin. In Bendix’s high performance brake pad, the ‘Street Road track,’ the shim is made from carbon steel with nitrate rubber coating on both sides. Bendix says this unique formulation delivers even quieter braking performance, while improving vibration installation and longevity. Brake pad shims also help prevent heat transmission from the brake pad to the caliper and other components – braking performance is increased when heat is minimised and can’t impact system components such as fluid, lubricants and moving parts. Bendix states that its coated shims minimise heat transmission much better than standard shims, while also lasting longer. Given the important role that brake shims play in reducing braking vibration and noise, as well as assisting braking performance through their heat suppression, Bendix recommends the replacement of brake shims at the same time as the brake pads. TERRAIN TAMER FILTER INSERTS

A quick, simple and whole solution for workshops

If dust happens to enter a vehicle’s air filter, the particles are bound to eventually get into the motor. This causes potentially dangerous and expensive wear to the internal components very quickly, in a way that is akin to rubbing sand paper up and down the inside of the engine. Of course, it is good practice to remove the air filter on a regular basis, and clean it or replace it if required. However, for vehicles doing a lot of work off the bitumen, the air filter will not last the service interval given by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, the original design of the airbox on several Toyota Landcruiser and Hilux models only compounds this. The upper filter housing of the V8 LandCruiser VDJ76/78/79, VDJ200 and Prado 120/150 series, as well as some Hilux KUN/GUN/TGN models, features a seal surface which is too narrow to match the seal of the filter itself. As a result, the filter doesn’t seal properly and is not able to be fully effective, allowing dust to pass through the airbox and enter the engine intake, causing havoc with engine components. After sitting down with Original Equipment filter manufacturers, Terrain Tamer says it became clear that they were oblivious to the problem. Despite there being a lot of talk about the issue in forums and Facebook groups and among mechanics, it was a problem that seemed to become most apparent after the new car warranty was rescinded. One Facebook group dedicated entirely to “Toyota 76/78/79/200 1VD Dusted Engines” for example, boasted over 7,300 members, with some reporting over $30,000 worth of damage as a result of the issue. Terrain Tamer began to research and design a range of vehicle specific, stainless-steel filter inserts for the most problematic vehicle models. The inserts, when fitted, create a surface area that perfectly matches the filter, aligning in the correct position to properly seal, and effectively working to reduce the issue of dusting. A simple and affordable innovation, the insert holds the airbox structure, which of course means that the risk of engine damage from dust particles is greatly reduced. The Air Filter Inserts are sold in kits, which also include the corresponding Terrain Tamer Air Filter, as well as the sealant required. This makes it a quick, simple and whole solution for workshops or home mechanics to fit without needing to source anything extra. For more information, visit www.terraintamer.com.au

AEROFLOW PERFORMANCE RELEASES NEW PRODUCTS

The new releases include a camshaft retaining plate and long crankshaft key

Aeroflow has recently expanded its inventory with a few new products, including a camshaft retaining plate, a long crankshaft key, a throttle cable bracket, a 31 Spline full spool, and aluminium half and full donuts. The Aeroflow Performance camshaft thrust plate is designed to suit all GM LS engines and replaces the genuine GM part number GM12589016. These solid steel plates protect your engine investment by returning your timing gear alignment back to desired specs. The thrust plate features an O-ring seal that is moulded onto the back of the plate with a new Viton O-ring included. These have counter sunk bolt holes, and the one time use T40 Torx Bit tapered bolts are included and also sold separately. Aeroflow has also added a long crankshaft key to suit GM LS to its inventory. Worn crankshaft keys can lead to incorrect positioning between the timing gear and dampener, which can result in inconsistent timing. The Aeroflow Performance crankshaft keys can replace a worn key. These crankshaft keys are designed to locate the crank sprocket on the nose of the crankshaft. These woodruff keys are manufactured to OEM specifications for quality and dimensions to ensure a proper fit. The Aeroflow Performance 105mm throttle cable bracket is designed to suit the Aeroflow Performance 105mm cable throttle body (AF642270) and aftermarket 105mm 4-bolt throttle bodies, which are sold separately. It allows for an easy install of the OE throttle cable to the throttle body. This throttle body bracket also allows for throttle pedal adjustment and/or the addition of a nitrous plate. Another new product from Aeroflow is a Ford 9” 31 Spline full spool, which is designed to give needed traction by locking the axle shafts together, forcing the rear tyres to turn at the same speed. This eliminates the gear failure caused by case deflection or differential side-gear failure. This lightweight steel spool weighs only 6.1 lbs (2.76kg) and is designed to suit 3.062” bore Ford 9” case. Aeroflow also offers aluminium half and full donuts, now available in 2.75”. Premium T6063 grade aluminium donuts from Aeroflow Performance are primarily used for tight/compact installations that require custom application for tight bends and corners. The donut can be cut at any degree of bend needed. These donuts have a thick 2mm wall and are sold either by the half or complete full donuts that are welded on the outside only. LEADING MEYLE HD PARTS

After 20 years of Meyle HD, Meyle continues to successfully optimise spare parts

The long-standing family-run business Meyle has reason to celebrate – it has been 20 years since the Hamburg-based spare parts specialist developed the first technically refined Meyle HD part, triggering a revolution in the independent aftermarket. Since then, the Meyle engineers have worked day in, day out, to identify new ways of making OE parts longer-lasting, more reliable and more sustainable. In keeping with this pioneering spirit and to mark the 20th anniversary of the HD product line, Meyle began to produce its Meyle HD steering and suspension solutions carbon-neutrally for the first time this year. Meyle says that for its business, manufacturing means to always improve and to create the perfect spare part. It says that because of this, a comprehensive process of six clear steps it calls the Meyle HD principle are called for, as follows: 1. Identification – looking closely: every optimisation process for a new product begins with an analysis of the relevant OE part and any possible premature failures. This involves 3D technology and close examinations at the

Meyle quality laboratory by means of specially developed test procedures. 2. Definition – thinking in terms of perfect solutions: elaborate simulations are used to determine whether there is a recurring problem and to identify the cause of the

OE-part failure. Possible solutions are then determined and turned into precise specifications for the Meyle HD part. 3. Development – making it better: development of the HD part starts on the basis of the specifications. The engineers work on the part until a solution is found that lives up to the

Meyle experts’ high standards. 4. Prototype – being thrilled: the development phase is followed by the highlight for any

Meyle engineer, which according to Meyle

Head of Steering and Suspension, Stefan

Bachmann, is “when, after identifying a weak point, researching the causes, development work and numerous tests, we have succeeded in holding a first prototype in our hands, it is something special for us every time. In the end, these are exactly the moments for which we give our best every day.” 5. Production – doing it ourselves: only once comprehensive quality tests have been conducted under realistic conditions, the experts know whether a Meyle HD part is ready for mass production. All Meyle HD steering and suspension parts are manufactured by SIO automotive, the company’s own production site. Out of conviction, the manufacturer

unconditionally offers a four-year guarantee* on all Meyle HD parts. 6. Launch – continuing to think: once a new

Meyle HD product has been rolled out, Meyle says its optimisation process does not end as potential improvements and future challenges are precisely what drive and inspire Meyle. For 20 years, with every new Meyle HD part, Meyle says it has been realising its aspiration to develop perfect as well as durable solutions for its customers and to be the “DRIVER’S BEST FRIEND”. Throughout, Meyle says it has had its eye on the environment and on future requirements and so workshops, partners and customers can rest assured that the Meyle engineers will not stop until they have found the perfect solution. REPCO’S NEW JACKS

Trolley Jacks must now meet a higher standard for increased durability and longevity

In December 2019, new standards came into effect for Trolley Jacks sold in the Australian market (AS 2615:2016). As part of the updates to the mandatory standards, a requirement was set that all Trolley Jacks must now meet a higher standard for increased durability and longevity. This led to many manufacturers having to reduce the rated capacity on their existing Trolley Jacks as well as move away from Aluminium construction. In line with the new standards, Repco says it has developed a leading range of Trolley Jacks that cover a wide range of lifting capacities to meet the requirements of Australia’s professional workshops. All Repco branded Service Jacks come with a TwoYear Trade Warranty supported by the nationwide network of Repco stores. Repco says its 1800kg Low Profile Aluminium Service Jack (RJF1.8T-AL) has been designed with the professional workshop in mind. The two-stage hydraulic, 1800kg lifting capacity covers the majority of passenger vehicle applications, combined with it’s 95mm minimum height making it perfect for getting under low profile cars. Aluminium Trolley Jacks have a significant weight saving advantage over their Steel counterparts, making them ideal for mobile mechanics, track day use plus anyone who uses a Trolley Jack daily who is looking to reduce fatigue. To reduce workshop noise and disruption, the Repco 1800kg Low Profile Aluminium Service Jack (RJF1.8T-AL) has been designed with nylon wheels making it far quieter than steel wheels when rolled across workshop floors, while also having the additional benefit of protecting the epoxy coating found on most workshop floors. INTRODUCING THE IOPEDAL THROTTLE TUNER

Those behind the German-made product say it could be the most advanced throttle controller in the world

Throttle controllers have been on the market for quite some time and are well-known amongst not only car enthusiasts, but by every car owner who demands instant response from their vehicle – especially at busy intersections, roundabouts and when completing overtaking manoeuvres on the open road. The IOPEDAL has been designed from the ground up with only one goal in mind: to design and manufacture everything in the best way possible. All previous insights were reportedly set aside so new and innovative concepts were developed. IOPEDAL says the same requirement from any throttle controller is achieved by connecting the cable harness and main module to the accelerator pedal, but this is where the similarity ends with other controller types. The main module is tucked away safely under the dashboard or behind the lower footwell cover panel. It says the flexibility to mount the remote control, without restrictions, anywhere in your vehicle is undoubtedly the best form function. The wireless remote controller can be installed anywhere on the dashboard or, if you prefer, put it in the glove box, centre storage or keep it with you in your pocket. The IOPEDAL reportedly eliminates the logistical nightmare of the cable harness. IOPEDAL’s wireless remote controller’s intuitive interface allows all functions and settings to be easily accessed and activated. Toggling through the different driving modes is as easy as selecting left or right buttons. Special functions include Secure and Valet modes. Valet mode allows the owner to change the throttle responsiveness to eliminate the risk of joy rides or hooning and when the keys are handed over to inexperienced drivers or repair shops. Secure mode is an extra layer of anti-theft protection which works by disabling the throttle pedal. The IOPEDAL offers an interchangeable cable harness resulting in a seamless transfer to another vehicle. The owner can simply purchase a cable harness to match the new vehicle. With four different driving modes and five fine adjustments within every mode, there is a setting for every drive no matter what the conditions. On offer is SportMode and XtremeMode, TrafficMode and EcoMode, along with StockMode, ValetMode and SecureMode. IOPEDAL options are available for most vehicle models from 1998 onwards and include Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid and EV (full electric) vehicles such as the well-known Tesla. For more information or to become a reseller partner, contact the Australia Distributor, IOPEDAL Australia, on 08 6116 8106.

INNOVATIVE PARKING SOLUTIONS

The leader in foundation brake systems has produced its 200 millionth Electric Park Brake (EPB) unit

The inventor of the Electronic Park Brake (EPB) motor-on-caliper brake more than 20 years ago, ZF says its EPB is now in its sixth generation and the true embodiment of an intelligent mechanical system. ZF says its EPB is remarkable in its ability to deliver benefits such as enhanced fuel economy due to weight reduction in the brake system. It is said to be a prime example of the electrification of mechanical systems allowing for integration and advanced functions when combined with other vehicle systems, and was an important first step toward the electrification of braking systems. The technology also helps to enhance driver safety by enabling two-wheel anti-lock emergency stops and driver convenience and comfort as the system is activated by the touch of a button. In addition to providing park brake functionality, EPB is a fully integrated part of the brake system with features such as dynamic actuation, brake pad wear sensing and offers reduced degradation associated with mechanical systems. “EPB is a great success story and today we recognise the engineers, designers, and the employees who produce this technology in locations throughout the world including Europe, the Americas, and Asia,“ said Manfred Meyer, Senior Vice President, Active Safety for ZF. “EPB is a testament to the relentless pursuit of innovation. ZF was already a global leader in the foundation brake market in the early 2000s but sought to transform a purely mechanical service brake function into something much more. “Today, the technology is featured on many of the world’s most popular vehicles across the spectrum of small cars through to larger pick-up trucks and sport utility vehicles.” ZF offers a range of park brake solutions including the integrated park brake through to full EPB systems including standard EPB, EPBi, which eliminates the need for a separate Electronic Control Unit (ECU) as it is integrated within the electronic stability control system, and EPB for front axles which is more suitable for smaller vehicle segments. “As we move toward ever higher levels of advanced safety, automated driving and vehicle electrification, braking systems will play a key role in helping to meet regulations, enable new functions and provide regenerative brake energy recovery,” Manfred said. “This requires higher levels of integration with other onboard systems and a greater degree of vehicle control and systems like the Electric Park Brake and ZF’s Integrated Brake Control Systems will have greater applicability than ever before.” The ZF Group has also produced more than 500 million of its first-to-market Integrated Park Brake (IPB) units. INTRODUCING NRS BRAKE PADS

CIRCO Group Global is bringing the range to the Oceania region for the first time

Right out of the box, galvanized NRS Brake Pads have unique technology you can actually see, says CIRCO Group Global. Rust resistant, unpainted, galvanized steel with zinc plating incorporates an awardwinning attachment technology called NRS. CIRCO Group Global says these brake pads are amongst the longest lasting, most reliable options of friction material for Emergency Services Fleet, 4x4, Mining and EV vehicles in the world. Manufactured in Canada, NRS Brakes are on the way to the Australian automotive market and will be distributed by CIRCO Group Global (CGG) from Yatala, Queensland. Whilst this is a freshly inked agreement, CGG already have an initial batch of stock on the way from Canada and will be building the application stock list through the remainder of 2022. NRS Brakes is owned by Canada’s “worldrenowned” NUCAP Brake Components, which has been innovating the brake component industry since 1994. NRS Brakes are manufactured in-house using all NUCAP componentry, including the patented in-situ galvanised hook fixing system on the galvanised backing plates. Key features and benefits:

• Corrosion resistance: zinc plating technology ensures brake pads are protected, preventing corrosion and ensuring the pads can withstand harsh environments without the fear of delamination or separation. These unique features make NRS Brake Pads perfect for mine spec and off-road vehicles. • Long life: NRS Brake Pads offer remarkably low levels of wear, even when used in extreme conditions. Testing here in Australia has shown a use-life improvement of over 50 percent. This is exceptionally important when it comes to fleet programs where service life equates to cost. The backing plate fixing method also ensures the friction material will never delaminate, providing a longer life and safer brake operation for the entire life of the pad. • Low noise: the NRS Noise-cancelling Piston

Cushion Insert is designed to attack a known

NVH problem area, caliper/pad/rotor interface, thus helping to reduce noise levels by up to 90 percent. Additionally, all NRS Brake Pads are fitted with the correct anti-squeal shim and all hardware usually expected on an OEM level product. • Low dust: the NRS compounds are renowned for putting out extremely low levels of light coloured ‘dust’. Compared to OEM brake pads, NRS Brake Pads offer a significant improvement in low-dust and ease of cleaning.

European vehicles which are notorious for elevated dust levels benefit immensely by simply switching to NRS brake pads, says

CIRCO Group Global. • Environmentally friendly: galvanized brake pads are paint free, copper free and 100 percent recyclable. NRS also specialises in fleet programs tailored to specific customer types. For example, NRS supplies brake pads for police programs in the USA as well as courier service providers who rely on NRS to increase brake service intervals. When it comes to electric vehicles, NRS EV Galvanised Brake Pads are designed specifically for the sector with “unmatched commitment” to the environment which it says means you can expect NRS to deliver the longest lasting, safest, and most environmentally friendly brake pad for electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles. Vehicle fitments include Tesla, Hyundai, KIA, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Ford. NRS Brakes is distributed throughout Oceania by CIRCO Group Global who are the parent company for CIRCO Brakes and Motorsport Brakes in Yatala, Queensland. EGR COOLER REPLACEMENT

Goss has re-engineered the PX Ranger cooler

The Ford PX Ranger is a popular truck and like all mass-produced vehicles, Goss says they exhibit common failures after a period of time, with the achilles heel of this mighty truck said to be its EGR cooler. Goss says original units have been known to leak coolant either externally (from around the flanged joints on either side of the cooler) or internally, whereby coolant leaks into the engine’s intake system – pulled along by the recirculated exhaust gasses. Both of these failures are cause for EGR cooler replacement. Goss says it has re-engineered the PX Ranger cooler and developed a new manufacturing process to produce a superior product which is less prone to cracking or leakage. Unfortunately, using a quality replacement part is only half the battle – installation of these units requires additional inspections and a very concise coolant bleed procedure. Step one: inspect the failed unit to determine the cause of the original failure.

A leak due to corrosion will require the cooling system to be flushed before installation of the new unit. A split core may have been triggered by over pressurisation. Be sure to check for cylinder combustion leaks. A leaking coolant hose can draw air into the system resulting in hotspots and poor flow through the cooler. Make sure the heater core has not been bypassed. This practice removes a critical part of the cooling system – again resulting in reduced flow through the EGR cooler. Check if the EGR valve itself has not been blanked off. The EGR needs to function to ensure correct and efficient cooler operation. When installing the new cooler, replace the mounting bolts with new units and torque to manufacturer specifications using mild strength thread locking compound as they are prone to vibrate loose causing the cooler to crack. Step two: bleeding procedure

Goss says vacuum bleeding is the only way to guarantee there are no airlocks within the system during coolant fill. This will prevent repeat failure of the cooler. Attach the bleed adaptor to the coolant fill point and open the air valve. After a few minutes of operation, the coolant hoses will flatten, and the pressure gauge will stabilise with a negative value. Close the valve and disconnect the shop air supply. Monitor the gauge for a few minutes for any rise in pressure. This indicates an air leak that must be rectified before continuing. If the gauge remains at negative pressure during this interval, then the refill process can begin. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the fill container – do not let the suction hose lift air or you will need to start again. When the gauge rises to zero the system is full with no air locks, start the engine and allow it to warm up. Confirm the thermostat opens by checking temperature at both top and bottom hoses. Remember to recheck for any leaks through a full temperature cycle of the cooling system. Goss is a leading provider of Genuine Alternative aftermarket and Original Equipment Supplier (OES) parts. NEW LOOK FOR COLORSPEC

MotorActive has undertaken a full revamp of the paint brand

MotorActive, the company behind Supercheap Auto’s exclusive automotive paint brand ColorSpec, recently implemented a full revamp of the brand. Market research results showed that ColorSpec was predominantly a grudge purchase made by customers who were looking to fix a problem and who were already planning on buying paint before entering the store. MotorActive was faced with the challenge of attracting new customers while also retaining the brand’s professional-grade character. “This was a fantastic opportunity to reposition the brand,” MotorActive Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Morrison, said. “We concentrated on two key elements; invigorate the livery to make it more attention grabbing and enhance the satisfaction-of-purchase. “Witnessing the spectacular success of the bright and vibrant colours of the new Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic range gave us the confidence that adding just the right splash of colour will draw in customers – without generating any negative perceptions about quality. The vibrant colours contrast extremely well against the modern, sophisticated satin black.” “With 30-years’ experience maintaining Meguiar’s as the premier car care brand, we’re well aware of the dangers of resting on your laurels. “Also, ColorSpec was 10 years old – its original look and feel was designed around it being a true, professional grade, clear-over-base automotive paint system. “Typically, professional products do not have overly flashy labelling and lack sex appeal. It needed a facelift, because this becomes a bigger and tougher job if you wait until things are in decline.” MotorActive not only introduced the new livery and a sharper point-of-sale area but also revamped the website and produced a number of How-To videos. The videos are meant to educate as well as inspire different ways to utilise the brand through DIY projects. “Building excitement around the brand has proved to be a double win,” Bruce said. “Not only has it generated new business by getting customers thinking about projects it could be used for; but we have seen firsthand the change in the attitude of the store’s retail teams. “By investing time with them, making the product fun and showcasing its capabilities, they’ve become more excited about the brand. “And it goes without saying, getting retailers and their teams excited about your product or brand is a powerful way to maintain growth and ensure its longevity well into the future.” For more information, visit www.colorspec.com.au

TERRAIN TAMER HEAVY DUTY SWIVEL HUB BEARING KITS

Designed and manufactured to extend the service life of wheel bearings in vehicles used for heavy towing

Terrain Tamer has expanded its range of heavy duty swivel hub bearing kits to also include combination swivel housing kits for a range of Toyota and Nissan 4WD vehicles. The first of these is a heavy-duty bearing that has been made in Japan, with a Rockwell hardness rating that is 2.5 points higher than the OE equivalent. These bearings combine a new forging technique with an upgraded heat treatment procedure to enable a longer service life. While the tapered roller bearing design looks very similar to any other, Terrain Tamer says the new technologies used to create the bearing means that they hold up to contaminants better, and for longer, doubling the service life of their OE equivalent in clean grease, and working up to 10 times longer in contaminated lubricant.

The second element of the kits is an innovative new range of Heavy-Duty hub seals, which rotate on their own internal surface, without relying on the condition of the shaft and thus eliminating wear on other components. These seals utilise a labyrinth construction with four sealing surfaces, to better prevent the loss of oil and lubricating fluids and better protect against the ingress of dirt and other contaminants. This internal track also makes these seals ideal to fit on previously damaged, corroded or rusted sealing surfaces, as the ribbed rubber surface of the seal simply fits to the vehicle and stays put, rotating only within its own design. As with all Terrain Tamer bearing kits, the HeavyDuty kits also include all required components for a wheel bearing overhaul and all parts are covered by a 12-month warranty. KNIPEX TWINGRIP SLIP JOINT PLIERS

A powerful solution for stuck bolts and screws

The new Knipex TwinGrip Slip Joint Pliers can be used to securely grip and reliably loosen stuck bolts and screws, even with a worn profile. An asymmetrical pipe grip ensures that flat workpieces can also be machined from the side to optimum effect. The slim, ergonomic pliers also have five adjustment positions thanks to convenient pushbutton adjustment. The Knipex TwinGrip Slip Joint Pliers are now available in Australia (82 01 200/82 02 200). Tridon, the exclusive distributor of Knipex in Australia, says the pliers offer the optimum solution for stuck bolts and screws. It states that thanks to the clever combination of front and side gripping functions, an extremely resilient box-joint and finely serrated push-button adjustment, the range of applications for this powerful tool is broad. Tridon states that users from the plumbing, construction, automotive, industrial, agricultural and DIY sectors will find the Knipex TwinGrip a reliable addition to their tool inventory. It says these very slim pliers with a narrow turning zone for quickly tightening and loosening screws enable powerful gripping and ergonomically comfortable working even in confined spaces. The strong gripping front jaw has robust teeth and a high gear ratio at the tip of the mouth. Serrated gripping surfaces in the plier’s axis support safe gripping from the front, while the high gear ratio allows the Knipex TwinGrip to easily grip, tighten and loosen even heavily worn screw heads. Even flat workpieces can be reliably gripped from the front thanks to the asymmetrical pipe grip with its three-point system and side-gripping is just as powerful and handy with the Knipex TwinGrip – the serrated gripping hole also firmly grips round materials and hexagonal profiles in this position. The geometry of the two-zone gripping jaws is optimised for maximum grip when loosening and tightening screws, thanks to the opposing alignment of the teeth. A slip joint with five push-button settings can be precisely adjusted to large front and side gripping capacities for diameters and widths across flats from four to 22 mm. The push-button engages securely and thus prevents unintentional shifting while a pinch stop ensures safety against crushing injuries. The Knipex TwinGrip is 100 percent made in Germany. BURSON GOES BIGGER IN WIPERS

Two new ranges from Burson Auto Parts have been released

Burson Auto Parts – which says it is Australia’s preferred trade supplier of automotive parts, tools, equipment, and accessories – has presented the auto trade with two new quality windscreen wiper product ranges. The first is the Eyon Glide windscreen wiper replacement product range, manufactured by Trico, a world leader in automotive wiper engineering, design, and technological development. The new Eyon Glide wiper range includes modern Beam Blade wipers along with conventional wiper blade assemblies that cover the vast majority of vehicles in the Australian Car Parc. Burson Auto Parts says the features of the Eyon Glide Beam Blade replacement wiper range include: • Advanced rubber technology that provides a longer life cycle • Symmetrical spoiler that reduces wind lift at high speed • Can be used to update conventional wiper assemblies to more efficient Eyon

Beam Blades • Slimline design to suit modern vehicles • UV treated rubber wiping element and housings • Multi-fit universal adapters included to ensure easy installation For service and repair technicians seeking replacement conventional wiper assemblies, Burson Auto Parts also offers a full range of Eyon Glide powder coated, galvanised and UV treated conventional wiper assemblies that also feature one inch blade increments for accurate sizing. Burson Auto Parts explains these quality Eyon Glide conventional wiper assemblies are also supplied with universal adapters to match most vehicle wiper arm types for ease of installation. All Eyon Glide conventional wiper assemblies have been designed as direct OE replacements for vehicles fitted with this style of assembly. Corrosion resistant materials combined with premium quality rubber refills deliver an efficient wipe and a long service life and each Eyon Glide wiper assembly also includes a preinstalled J-Hook adapter to suit most makes and models. Along with the Eyon Glide windscreen wiper range, Burson Auto Parts also offers the trade the high value ONmech range of conventional wiper assemblies and wiper refills. Burson Auto Parts says the ONmech wiper range delivers excellent performance and durability for 9mm Hook, 7mm Bayonet and Pin on Arm wiper applications, perfectly suiting older passenger and commercial vehicles with wiper lengths from 380mm to 700mm. The ONmech windscreen wiper product range offers two refill styles, Twin Rail refills in 6mm and 8mm widths, or Plastic Back refills which are also available in 6mm and 8mm widths. All ONMech wiper blade refills can also be easily cut to length as required and feature easy metal snap off rails along with durable stainless steel or Noryl polymer backs. It is important to note that for the safest and most efficient windscreen wiper performance, it is recommended that vehicle wiper assemblies be replaced every three years and wiper inserts once a year as a minimum. These important safety components are subjected to constant external climate extremes and as a result, lose efficiency over time. The condition of windscreen wipers should always be included in any vehicle safety check and at every service interval. For more information, visit www.burson.com.au

RYCO 4WD FILTRATION KITS

Making life easy with one innovative product to get the job done

Many 4x4 owners are aware of the benefits of fitting both a catch can and fuel water separator, more often as soon as they purchase their vehicle. In-fact, research undertaken by Ryco discovered that a number of OE engines produced excessive crankcase vapours from the factory and benefit immediately with the install of a crankcase filter assembly. Ryco says its team have spent significant time with 4x4 enthusiasts to determine their needs and wants – compared to what was currently available. Generally, the options on the market have been “universal” solutions, that require custom fitment – a challenge for the DIYer and an expensive exercise from an automotive workshop. With its 4WD Filtration Kits, Ryco says it has made it possible to purchase one package, under one part number, purpose designed to fit the specific engine bay – meeting not just enthusiasts needs, but workshops tasked with installing the solution. Plus, in the case of installation and routine maintenance, the kits have been designed not only to offer an OE like fit using engine bay specific mounting hardware and moulded emission hoses, but also provide adequate tool clearance for the job at hand. The specialised mounting hardware and vehicle specific fitting components are combined with Ryco’s RCC351 advanced crankcase filter assembly which prevents crankcase gases from contaminating engine air intake components, by separating the liquid oil and impurities from any blow by gasses before they are recycled back into the intake system, keeping it clean and operating efficiently. The high efficiency filter presents a low restriction to the engine PCV system – which Ryco says is an absolute must to retain the integrity of the crankcase emission control system. A key feature to the RCC351 crankcase ventilation system also eliminates the opportunity for contaminants to clog the intake system causing a loss of engine power. The unit has been designed to incorporate a storage sump large enough to hold enough captured contaminants to allow vehicle owners to complete a regular engine service interval without the need for draining. The upgrade is complemented by Ryco’s improved Z980K16 fuel water separator which is particularly important for today’s common rail diesel vehicles that typically have a high-pressure pump installed between the low pressure or delivery pump and the fuel injectors. These components benefit with this increased level of protection to avoid blockage or abrasions damaging performance. Ryco says the result is a one-stop preventive maintenance solution, incorporating an OE-like fit, a crankcase filter assembly with the largest catch can sump on the market, quick release brackets for servicing, moulded emission hoses, plus the upgraded fuel water separator with quick connect fuel fittings for easy installation. IN-DEMAND PARTS FROM HPP LUNDS

LandCruiser and Hilux used cars are in demand, and so are parts

Car prices are soaring at the moment; supply is limited, and so used cars are sought after. Some are in demand more than others, with Toyota LandCruisers top of the list for many buyers. HPP Lunds says these vehicles are better than money in the bank, which means keeping them on the road is a top priority. Moody’s Analytics shows used cars have sold for a 65 percent higher price tag in the first quarter of 2022 than they did three years ago before the pandemic. LandCruisers have experienced the biggest jump in value because they have a solid reputation, as has the Toyota Hilux ute. Automotive website ‘Drive’ recently reported that a customer in Ballarat who had bought a Hilux in 2014 sold it for almost the price he paid for it despite it now wearing 225,000 kms on the odometer. With this information in hand, it is critical to know where to purchase good quality LandCruiser and Hilux parts, especially those that wear out the most due to offroad or continuous tradie use, such as steering and suspension parts. HPP Lunds stocks a plethora of aftermarket LandCruiser and Hilux parts ranging from body hardware to replacement mechanical parts. HPP Lunds says its CV/swivel hub kits and steering racks are competitively priced, and the CV kits include Japanese made bearings while the racks are now sourced from a new supplier that offers superior quality and a more consistent supply rate. As an example, brand new steering rack assemblies are available for the LandCruiser UZJ100, UZJ200, VDJ200, KDJ120, KZJ95R, KZJ120, RZJ95 and HDJ100. For Hilux they cover KUN26 and GUN125/126 models. Another often serviced part, the CV/swivel hub kits are available for LandCruiser FJ45, BJ42, FJ40, FJ45, FJ60, FJ62, HJ45, HJ47, HJ60, HJ61, HJ75, FJ75, Fj80, FZJ75, FZJ79, FZJ78, HDJ78, HDJ79, HZJ78, HZJ79, FZJ80, HDJ80, HZJ80 HZJ75, 105 series and VDJ78/79 series. CLUTCH INDUSTRIES FLYWHEEL PROGRAM

Decreasing the amount of wasted hoist time when completing a new clutch installation

Clutch Industries offers a range of OEM style replacement flywheels at a comparable price to a flywheel grind. Offering this range at a comparable price to a grind solves several issues. It reduces installation time – on average 4.5 hours of hoist time is wasted waiting for the flywheel to be ground. Replacing the flywheel cuts the installation time and gets the customer back on the road faster. It also keeps the original geometry, ensuring correct engagement and disengagement. When machining a flywheel, the overall height decreases which can cause actuation issues. Replacing the flywheel reverts the vehicle back to the original equipment flywheel height ensuring that no engagement/disengagement issues are experienced due to flywheel height changes. Clutch Industries explains that the cost is comparable to a grind. On average the trade price of a flywheel grind is $70; while the average trade price of a replacement flywheel in the program is $80. This with the cost savings from the reduced installation time means that replacing is cheaper than machining for the mechanic, says Clutch Industries. The main purpose of the program is to deliver workshops a quality product at a price that is comparable to a flywheel grind. To make the program viable, Clutch Industries had to tool up castings as opposed to making the flywheels from a billet. The initial investment to make the tooling was a risk and Clutch Industries says is why other manufactures did not have a similar program. In partnership with distributors Repco and NAPA Auto Parts, Clutch Industries has gone to market with a program that delivers the trade an alternative to grinding. It says this has been done by not only having a quality range of popular flywheels but also having them stocked in key branches at a low price. Clutch Industries says this gives Repco and NAPA customers an advantage over their competitors by increasing the profitability of their hoists. It reports the trade has embraced the program with over 25 percent of applicable clutch kit purchases now including a flywheel. For more information, visit www.clutchindustries.com.au
