NEW CONVOY DPF CLEANER
The new product has been recently released by Penrite
Penrite has recently released the new Convoy DPF Cleaner, a new diesel fuel additive. This new additive has been specifically formulated to improve the operation and reduce maintenance of Diesel Particulate Filters in light and heavy duty diesel engine applications. The new Convoy DPF Cleaner acts as a catalyst to assist in the regeneration of diesel particulate filters (DPFs) by initiating passive regeneration (soot oxidation) at lower temperatures for more thorough regeneration. This replaces the need to remove and clean the DPF or replace it completely from high soot loading.
The one litre pack treats 200 litres of diesel fuel and provides improved economy, lower emissions and improved fuel combustion for reduced particle matter, maximising engine efficiency and DPF life, says Penrite. It can be used in both light and heavy duty diesel fueled vehicles and is safe for use in vehicles equipped with SCR systems and exhaust catalysts. Penrite – which is 100 percent Australian family owned and operated – has been producing world class lubricants for more than 95 years. Fast approaching 100 years of Australian production, Penrite says it continues to invest into the future for future Australians and continues to lead the way in lubricant manufacturing in Australia. Whether it be the latest specification product, packaging innovation or cleaner and more sustainable manufacturing, Penrite says it is the innovator that other companies follow. INNOVATIVE AUTOMOTIVE SOLUTIONS
The need to ease the workflow in a workshop has resulted in an intelligent automotive diagnostic device
A drive to make work processes in a workshop more efficient was the start of Voltas IT, the creators of intelligent automotive diagnostic device, OBDeleven. Voltas IT, a new member of the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), was established in 2014. Since then the company has been developing and perfecting its automotive diagnostic device called OBDeleven, which help daily drivers to diagnose and customise their vehicles with a simple-to-use mobile device application. The progress and success with the device resulted in Voltas IT being recognised as the winner of the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Central Europe 2019 award, as the company demonstrated growth of revenue of 5734 percent between 2015 and 2018. Voltas IT says perhaps the secret behind the success was the fact that the three founders were always present in the automotive industry, working on cars throughout their careers. Thus, automotive engineering expertise was the foundation upon which OBDeleven was built, resulting in a pocket-sized device that is as easy to use as it is loaded with features, including dealer-level diagnostics. But what makes the device unique? After all, many tools in the automotive diagnostic market can read codes and showcase to a user whether there is anything wrong with their car. One of the primary selling points of OBDeleven is that the device offers a functionality of dealershiplevel software in a mobile device, meaning you can carry it everywhere with you or always keep it in a glove-box of your car. “Once we realised that our community has continued to grow massively, we wanted to make sure that our number one priority – quality – would be continued to be offered to our users, resulting in us working with the Volkswagen Group (VAG) and BMW,” Voltas IT Chief Executive Officer, Edvardas Astrauskas, said. “The two automakers granted us an official license in 2016 and 2019, respectively, allowing us to provide our users with all of the functionality that they would need when diagnosing or customising their cars.” Having full access to every control unit also allows users to customise their vehicle with their mobile devices. Whether that would be retrofitting aftermarket parts, such as parking sensors, and cruise control, customising the look of your car by changing your light flickering, changing the color or theme of your cockpit, or fine-tuning the performance by adjusting the electronic differential lock, for example, everything can be done with One-Click Apps. These ready-to-use programming functions act as a simple solution for those who have no time, interest, or even knowledge about coding within a vehicle and improve a car at a moment’s notice by enabling various hidden features, or disabling something that might annoy a driver, such as the Auto Start/Stop function. Nevertheless, due to the need to make car coding easier, OBDeleven is also suited for more advanced users who are enthusiasts or workshop professionals working with multiple cars at a time. Voltas IT says the functionality of OBDeleven is almost limitless, as with Coding / Long Coding, as well as Adaptations / Long Adaptations, users can tinker around with the control unit and sub-control unit software, retrofitting parts or changing the functionality of the car with the software. A crucial feature of the device is the ability to conduct a full scan of an automobile’s control units and to see the full log of data about any active, critical, or passive faults your car might have. With the Freeze Frame function, you can gain further knowledge about a car you are about to buy, for example, as you can see the history of the control unit and any faults that it might have had in the past. It could also be an indicator of odometer fraud, especially if the mileage on the data and the odometer do not match up. OBDeleven also allows owners of VAG-made vehicles to modify even the newest models with access to SFD-protected control units. OBDeleven was the first third-party tool in the market to provide such a solution. For more details about OBDeleven, and opportunities to become a distributor, contact Voltas IT via distribution@voltasit.com
PEDDERS EXPANDS TESLA PRODUCT RANGE

XS INJECTORS
From Injectors Online
Performance tuners who tune modified engines know that it is a very precise business, with the smallest of margins potentially making a huge difference to the tuning outcome – especially when it comes to fuel delivery. XS Injectors were developed as a bespoke product to provide performance vehicle engine tuners with data that is exactly matched to each set of injectors, rather than generic flow rate data. Improperly matched performance fuel injectors can have a flow variation as high as up to nine percent. At that range, a customer will never get a good tune no matter how good the data is. This potential variation in flow, coupled with generic tuning data (one size fits all), makes tuning difficult and sometimes impossible. Injectors Online says the key to an elite fuel injector set is having all fuel injectors working at not only the exact same performance, but adjusting the tune to match the fuel flow rate. It states it is widely known that a set of 1000cc injectors generally never flow at exactly 1000cc; a set might all be tightly matched but could flow at 915cc or even 1001cc. As an example, a set of eight injectors might flow at 943cc. The generic tuning data provided by other injector companies with their product is likely to be calculated for a flow rate of 1000cc. In this example case, the tune would have a 5.7 percent error. Professional engine tuners would continue to adjust the engine tune to get it perfect, but this can take significant time and cost to the client. Injectors Online says the time savings achieved by using XS Injectors provides substantial extra value to engine tuners. It states this is all done at a price point, per injector set, that is comparable to all leading premium performance injector brands. Further, Injectors Online asserts that the precision testing of each XS Injectors set is like nothing seen before in the industry. Whilst the testing of fuel injectors is governed by International Standard J1832 and is tightly controlled, the allowable tolerances just don’t work for performance engine tuners who are looking for every piece of horsepower. Every XS Injector is tested under the strict conditions set out by the J1832 standard: • Pressure must be 3 bar +/- 0.5% • Fluid temperature 21° C +/- 2° C • Voltage 14V +/- 0.05V Injectors Online says XS Injectors matched sets provide tolerances within one percent on fuel flow rate and two percent on injector dead times and each injector has over 6,500 flow points recorded to create a flow profile. It states the result is “the world’s most accurate performance fuel injector.” For more information, visit www.xsinjectors.com.au
• Improved ride and handling • Lowered visual appeal • Direct bolt-on installation All of these new products are offered with a twoyear/40,000km nationwide warranty. For more information, contact your local Pedders outlet or visit www.pedders.com.au
NEW FOR AMAROK
Carbon Offroad has launched what it says is one of the largest bore shock systems available for Amarok
Carbon Offroad says it is proud to release its Volkswagen Amarok platform MT2.5 big bore premium monotube coil over and rear shock. It says this project is the result of a three-year R and D program, which has concluded with one of the largest bore shock systems available anywhere in the world for the Amarok platform. Renowned as a difficult suspension system to work with, the team at Carbon Offroad says they carefully identified limitations and opportunities to optimise a performance coilover system that would enhance vehicle characteristics over existing OE and other aftermarket options and simply be a OE replacement fitment. Using steel shock housings, and a 6061 billet CNC seal head design which Carbon Offroad says has been proven for no leaks in over 200,000km of on road testing, the shock system has reportedly been able to address shaft seal leakage issues common across many other brands. The system features a massive 65mm body, 18mm shock shaft with integrated bumpstop, and custom made aluminium coilover top mount. All of this is partnered with Carbon Offroad’s custom made flat ground coilover coils. Carbon Offroad says this system provides best in class ride quality for daily driving. And for when conditions get bad, the large piston provides over double the damping force capability compared to a standard 35mm bore twin tube shock. On road driving, braking, cornering and all other performance metrics are massively improved, and the vehicle will simply handle better than most drivers’ capabilities at the wheel, says Carbon Offroad. The shocks are fully rebuildable and Carbon Offroad provides shock rebuild services from its headquarters, located in Coomera on the Gold Coast. Carbon Offroad says the shock system is also “extremely well priced, providing offroad racing level performance for a fraction of the cost of other more established brands.” “The quality of manufacturing on this shock system is as good as world leading premium shock brands,” it added. The system is available to be shipped worldwide. It can be optimised for either 2.0L or 3.0L engine variants and various accessory loads through the availability of a number of coil rates in stock. IR ‘HEAT GUNS’ BOOST WORKSHOP EFFICIENCY
In this article, Bendix takes a look at this measurement technology
Bendix says the wider availability and increasing affordability of non-contact, infra-red (IR) heat measurement technology is increasing workshop efficiency by helping technicians diagnose braking faults more quickly, and often without the need for brake tear downs. Most commercial units are calibrated and operate with a simple point and click temperature measurement and have the capacity to measure in the range of 0-500°C, covering most automotive applications. The main consideration when using these heat guns is to keep a consistent distance from the gun to the component that’s being measured for comparative purposes. Depending on the heat gun manufacturer, this distance will vary slightly, but generally the ideal distance is between 15 and 20 centimetres. Checking brakes on commercial vehicles
Bendix says IR heat technology is particularly useful in commercial vehicle workshops given the number of axles that trucks and trailing stock typically have. One of the most important considerations when checking brakes in commercial vehicles is to ensure that the brake loads are distributed evenly across all axles within the combination. This means that each of the brake assemblies are doing their share of the work, preventing overloading of the other brakes which can lead to excessive heat, brake wear and excess mechanical stress. Before checking the brakes, the vehicle should be driven (preferably loaded) and perform approximately 10 stops from 80-60 km/h to warm up the brakes. Following this, the brake temperature should be taken at the brake drum/ disc, usually at the centre of each to ensure the same location for all brakes. Next step is to compare the temperatures across all brakes – if the temperature between brakes varies by more than approximately 50°C, then they should be inspected for wear and correct operation. Tips for measuring temperatures
When ‘heating the brakes, Bendix says the ideal temperature is 100-200°C. This will clearly show any differences in operating performance. Brake temperatures should also be measured on one side of the vehicle at a time, as they can cool quickly – measuring brakes close to each will give best results. Note, it’s not the absolute temperature we’re interested in but the difference between brakes. LEADING BRAKING PRODUCTS
Motorsport Brakes’ brake pad range covers almost 1,800 applications and counting
Motorsport Brakes is a business dealing in quality products offering personal service focused entirely on quality and rapid response to crucial requirements in specialist fields including Motorsport, street performance, OEM, Fleet and Government. Its existing range of brake pad compounds covers almost all areas of world motorsport, and the business is capable of supplying categories from club level right through to FIA world championship organisations. At the same time its product range caters to every area of performance vehicles, including street, tuning, enthusiast, club, rally, circuit and also the growing Performance 4x4 Heavy Duty market. As part of its range, Motorsport Brakes says it is proud to distribute Winmax and Circo products in Australia. Winmax W1
“These pads are for those cars which are not seeing any track work, but whose performance-minded drivers are looking for improved performance and temperature ability over OEM style brake pads – for instance, for when they get a hard time in the odd mountain pass,” Motorsport Brakes Director, Marty Beckton, said. “Our pads for street use are designed to improve the experience and stopping power for road going performance cars and are manufactured using organic non-metal materials. “Using these materials means lower levels in dust and noise properties. The friction range is 0.29 – 0.32µ and the operating temp range is 0 – 450°C. When it comes to making recommendations to our customers, we advise that they consider using Winmax W1 instead of other products such as Endless NS97, Ferodo DS Performance, Pmu NS-EP and Bendix Ultimate.” Winmax W3
Winmax W3 brake pads are a semi-steel based compound suitable for performance and light trackday use. The low steel properties mean this pad is popular for those looking to upgrade to exceptional performance without compromising on too much comfort, says Motorsport Brakes. Naturally with increased friction and temperature ability, the chances increase of some brake noise and increased ‘dust’. But this is not always the case though, says Motorsport Brakes, which states Winmax W3 is the perfect cross-over pad that will perform when needed most. Further, it says the bonus is that they work from ambient temperature as well, so there is no need to warm them up before the daily commute. Motorsport Brakes carries Winmax W3 in over 100 pad shapes including standard OEM calipers right through to upgrade kit options. Circo Racing Brake Pads
MSB explains it acts on behalf of Circo in all racing category supply including for V8 Supercars, the Australian Rally Championship, TA2 Muscle Cars, Touring Car Masters, the RX8 Cup Racing Series and more.
“Circo pads are 100 percent manufactured in Japan to world class standards,” Martysaid. Circo Racing Brake Pads feature proprietary compounds designed for specific applications and standards. The compound range is broad and covers all types of competition. Compounds on offer include Circo S83 (friction range 0.30-0.38µ; temp range 0-600°c; Circo S88 (friction range 0.30-0.38µ; temp range 0-650°c); M119 (friction range 0.48-0.51µ; temp range 50-800°c); and M207 (friction range 0.45-0.56µ; temp range 250-920°c). Exclusive to workshops
Valvoline Professional Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 Engine Oil allows workshops to streamline their engine oil requirements. It comes in 20L, 60L and 208L drums, suits Petrol vehicles that specify SAE 5W-30 requiring API SN PLUS, SN, SM or earlier, and caters for more than 45 percent of Australian vehicles sold since 2009. Valvoline says that not only does the Valvoline Professional Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 engine oil service the fastest growing segment in the Australian automotive marketplace, it can rationalise up to five engine oils from the Valvoline range. This means workshops could save time in choosing which oil to use and improve workshop efficiencies by potentially holding less stock. The one engine oil could mean less oil storage space on the workshop floor, leading to greater efficiency. Valvoline Professional Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 engine oil also meets the API SN PLUS specification which protects against Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI). LSPI is an abnormal, uncontrolled combustion event that can occur in modern Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) and Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDI) engines. In some cases, this can result in catastrophic engine failure. Research suggests that LSPI most commonly occurs during rapid acceleration and in GDI and TGDI engines operating in low speed and high load driving conditions. Whilst protecting against LSPI, another benefit of the Valvoline Professional Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 engine oil is that it can improve fuel economy by up to 1.5 percent in certain vehicles. It also protects engines from wear by up to 72 percent when compared to standard engine oils. In addition, Valvoline Professional Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 engine oil contains Mid SAP’s technology. This means it is ideal for use in various Japanese and Korean diesel vehicles fitted with DPFs. Many of these vehicles can now be serviced with the Valvoline Professional Multi-Vehicle 5W-30 engine oil where the vehicle specifies SAE 5W-30 requiring ACEA C2 or ACEA C3. VALEO 48V BELT STARTER GENERATOR
The belt-driven reversible starter generator delivers hybrid functionalities in the packaging of an alternator
As the regulations on CO2 emissions and pollution become stricter worldwide and a growing number of consumers turn to more ecological offers, carmakers and equipment suppliers are faced with the need to develop products that are more sustainable. Valeo says it has successfully risen to the challenge of increasing the performance of vehicles driven by internal combustion engines, while also reducing their fuel consumption. Its Valeo 48V Belt Starter Generator is fitted in the engine in place of the alternator and turns the vehicle into a MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) – bringing hybrid functionalities in the packaging of an alternator. The Valeo 48V Belt Starter Generator replaces the alternator to recover energy while braking and electrically boost the engine. This 48 Belt Starter Generator is composed of a DC/DC Converter to bridge and balance 12 and 48V networks. A 48V battery pack is added to store more energy, and a Valeo Electric Rear Axle Drive is added to allow full electric drive and all-wheel drive mode. Key features and benefits:
• Recharges the battery to assist the engine and to supply power to the vehicle’s equipment. • Assists the engine when the vehicle is driving at a constant speed (on main highways, for example) in order to cut fuel consumption. • Delivers a boost effect to the engine when accelerating. • Allows the car to be in 100 percent electric mode over short distances. • Mechanics don’t need specific tools to replace an iBSG product. • Provides additional torque to the engine to assist engine transients during short acceleration phases or to slightly assist engine during long phase. • Regen, Boost, Coasting and Electric Drive functions are available. According to Valeo, the iBSG system has now been fitted on several hundreds of thousands of vehicles, including Asian and European vehicles. For more information, visit www.valeoservice.com.au
FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE
Bosch has developed what it calls a particularly powerful new brake fluid
As a developer of modern vehicle safety systems, Bosch says it also focuses on the brake fluids used. It notes that the performance of modern brake systems are being continuously improved while the reaction times of ABS and ESP are getting faster and faster. In response, it has developed its Bosch ENV6 Brake Fluid to cope with the high strains caused by modern and future brake systems With ENV6, Bosch says it provides a particularly powerful and reliable brake fluid meeting the growing demands of modern and future brake systems. A unique combination of characteristics: low viscosity and high wet boiling point
Bosch says ENV6 stands out for being the first brake fluid ever developed to combine both a very low viscosity – ie: very high fluidity – and a very high wet boiling point in comparison with conventional brake fluids. The lower the viscosity, the shorter the reaction times of ESP systems, for instance, while the high wet boiling point reduces the risk of formation of vapor bubbles – the main cause of brake failure. So far, Bosch says this combination of both of these features is absolutely unique and makes ENV6 particularly reliable and safe. As a result, Bosch says ENV6 can be used to replace several different brake fluids such as DOT3, DOT4 or DOT5.1; stating that only “very rarely used brake fluids based on mineral oils (LHM) or containing silicones (DOT5)” are the only ones not compatible. Significantly increased replacement intervals
Bosch says that thanks to its very good technical characteristics, the replacement intervals of this high-performance brake fluid have been significantly increased as well. It states that while standard DOT4 brake fluids need to be replaced every two years, the ENV6 replacement interval comprises three years. Bosch explains that its high lubricity prevents noises and protects the brake system against wear and corrosion. At the workshop, ENV6 can thus be used to replace several different conventional brake fluids. Bosch says this reduces the risk of filling the brake system with inappropriate brake fluids or mixing different ones and also reduces the required storage space at the workshops. Bosch supplies ENV6 in 500ml and 1ltr tins in Australia. Distributors include: Super Cheap Auto, CoolDrive Auto Parts, Burson Auto Parts, Automotive Superstore, Stopmaster Brakes, Central Coast Brake and Clutch, and Specialised Brake and Clutch. BILSTEIN LAUNCHES NEW CORPORATE DESIGN
Bilstein is evolving its brand identity
With new logos, a new claim, a new typeface and revised design guidelines, the shock absorber expert says it is focusing on the future of suspension technologies, the customer experience, and the brand itself. Bilstein says its new claim – ‘Way Ahead, Bilstein’ – summarises its aspiration to offer all customers and partners a headstart, whether in terms of development, market coverage, or the use of suspension technologies. At the same time, it says ‘Way Ahead’ serves as a product promise for leading technologies, comfort, safety, and performance. The new presence has been developed as a direct expression of this claim. Bilstein says the stripped-down look is flexible and accessible in use, enabling a modern and clear customer approach both online and offline. The evolution of the logo, with its simplified representation of the shock absorber and streamlined basic shape, also follows this idea. With this update, the German company is taking an important step towards implementing the new Bilstein brand strategy. The intention is to clearly refocus corporate communications on Bilstein’s characteristic drive to make a meaningful contribution to the future, says Christoph Henkel, Bilstein’s Vice President Aftermarket Business, Sales, Product Management and Marketing. “Bilstein aims to be ‘Way Ahead’ together with all partner companies and all drivers. We offer groundbreaking solutions, an outstanding driving experience, and a look that expresses our brand identity in a future-proof way everywhere,” Christoph said. RHINO LININGS SEAMLESS UTE LINERS
Rhino Linings says it offers the world’s number one sprayed-on protective coating
Rhino Linings has been developing industrial strength coatings since 1988 and says it has been the international brand trusted by experts since then. Rhino Linings’ trained Applicators have specialised equipment that sprays a 2:1 mixture of two parts resin to one part ISO, to form the Tuff Stuff polyurethane membrane. The recommended thickness is a 3-4mm coating of Tuff Stuff on the vehicles’ bed with 2mm on the sides where the general wear and tear is not as prevalent. Rhino Linings says this can be increased to virtually any thickness depending on the customers’ requirements. The company explains that the advantages of a sprayed-on Rhino Linings Tuff Stuff tub liner over a standard drop in plastic liner or other competing products are many. Rhino Linings Tuff Stuff is seamless with no nooks and crannies to harbour debris; and is waterproof, shielding any moisture getting between the lining and the substrate which prevents rust and corrosion beneath anywhere the coating is adhering to. Rhino Linings Tuff Stuff won’t crack, split, rip or tear from extensive flexing and the tub liners are non-porous, making it extremely easy to clean and maintain. Rhino Linings formulations are applied in continuous coats and can be spray-applied to any thickness; while the non-abrasive and antiskid texture holds your valuable load in place. The texture can also be varied from fine to coarse depending on the customers’ requirements. Rhino Linings says the soft but deceptively strong consistency is ideal for animals to be transported more safely. The polyurethane is also much cooler on the paws and the anti-slip characteristics stop your animals sliding everywhere. Clear or pigmented Rhino Shine Ultra and UV topcoats protect against sun fade and discolouration. Rhino Linings says its product is the proven sprayed-on ute bed liner with the most applications, product usage and largest dealer network in the world; stating there is no substitute for Rhino Linings’ experience as “the world leader for protective coatings since 1988.” Rhino Linings states that Tuff Stuff mixes naturally without heat or pressure, making Rhino Lining the most flexible, resilient, stable, insulated, and dense lining available. Rhino Linings Tuff Stuff is a unique polyurethane that hardens in seconds and permanently bonds to virtually any substrate including steel, rubber, aluminium, concrete, fibreglass, wood and more. The formulations are 100 percent solids and environmentally friendly. They are safe to apply and contain no hazardous waste. For more information, visit www.rhinolinings.com.au or phone 07 5585 7000.

BENDIX EXPLAINS REGENERATIVE BRAKING
Regenerative braking is a feature of hybridelectric and full electric vehicles
Regenerative braking aims to capture energy as the vehicle slows or brakes. In a traditional car, van or truck, when the brakes are applied the energy of motion (kinetic energy) is transformed into heat energy via friction, and ultimately dissipates into the atmosphere – it is wasted energy. Regenerative braking systems can harness some of this lost energy, by capturing and storing it in the vehicle’s battery system, adding charge and ultimately extending its operating range. The secret to capturing the energy lies in the electric engine. Electric and hybrid electric engines (when running on electric power) are designed to run in two directions. One direction drives the wheels and moves the vehicle when accelerating, but once the accelerator is lifted or brakes applied, the engine will spin in the opposite direction and recapture energy. In vehicles with regenerative braking, this transition from accelerating to accelerator lift off is quite noticeable, because once the accelerator is de-pressed, the vehicle will slow down much faster compared to a conventional vehicle. Most modern electric vehicles allow the driver to adjust the resistance of this function to suit their preference, but to gain the most from the system you need to keep a high regeneration setting rather than allowing more roll-on. This sensation of the vehicle virtually self-braking can take a little while to get used to, but with practice drivers will find that they will need to rely on their hydraulic brakes a lot less, reducing disc rotor and pad wear and tear. Yes, hybrid-electric and full electric vehicles still do have conventional hydraulic braking systems, allowing the vehicles to stop much faster if required. Brake pedal and ABS pressure sensors also come into play when the brake pedal is applied, with standard braking and regenerative braking working in tandem to bring the vehicle to a halt if the driving situation requires it. Bendix EV-Hybrid Disc Brake Pads
While electric and hybrid vehicles don’t require special brake pads, Bendix says it identified that owners of these cars were more likely to be environmentally conscious about all operational aspects of their vehicle, not just their power source. This prompted the development and release of the Bendix EV-Hybrid brake pad range last year. The EV-Hybrid range is locally designed in Australia using organic materials to deliver a lower environmental impact along with low dust and noise levels, resulting in cleaner wheels and longer disc brake rotor life. The copper-free organic brake friction materials used in Bendix EV-Hybrid disc brake pads are certified to the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers’ Association (AASA) ‘N’ rating. This rating confirms Bendix EV-Hybrid disc brake pads contain less than 0.5 percent of copper by weight and permits Bendix to use the AASA LeafMark ‘N’ icon. Certification as ‘N’ rated under the AASA LeafMark backs Bendix’s commitment to copperfree brake pads, to minimise environmental impact. The AASA LeafMark for friction materials represents one of the most stringent environmental standards for brake materials and the Bendix EV-Hybrid material has been tested and accredited by an independent lab and certified to meet this high standard. Bendix EV-Hybrid disc brake pads are available for popular EV and Hybrid brands including Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Mitsubishi. NEW NARVA LED GLOBES
Providing lightbar comparable high beam output
Narva have developed purpose-built LED globes to provide a super powerful output for high beam use only. The new LED globes offer an incredible light output of up to 12000 lumens (per pair), with a light beam reaching 300 metres at one lux – performance similar to that of a 14-inch 5W LED light bar – but without the inconvenience of installing a light bar with wiring, switches or a mountable bull/nudge bar. This light output is produced in a crisp white 6000K and creates up to two times the beam width of standard halogen globes. With up to 25 times more life than a standard globe and extreme durability, thanks to no filament or moving parts, Narva says its new high beam LED globes will be a fit and forget option for any suitable vehicle, and that drivers can retain standard halogen globes in their low beam lights should they desire. A removable locator ring, external driver and 360° adjustable globe orientation (for H7 fitment) allow the globes to be easily retrofitted at home. Narva’s High Beam LED globe kits (as a pair) are available in HB3, H7, H8/9/11 fitments from leading stockists. Narva develops third generation LED headlight conversion kits
In other globe news from Narva, the company has released its Gen III Performance LED headlight conversion kits, which offer significant upgrades over previous Gen II Performance LED globes. According to inhouse Narva testing, per kit the latest release produces up to 70 percent more effective lumens and 30 percent more low beam distance, as well as a broader high beam output compared to its predecessor. When compared to the standard halogen globes fitted to many vehicles, Narva says this represents up to 300 percent brighter output and a light beam that’s 60 metres longer (low beam). In addition to performance improvements, the Gen III LED globes feature updated circuitry and vibration resistance to make them even more reliable. Compared to halogen globes, Narva says owners should expect 30 times longer life from the latest kits. In spite of these performance upgrades, Narva says the Gen III globes will cost the same as previous Gen II globes. The latest kits are available in H1, H4, HB3, HB4, H7, H8/9/11 and HIR2 fitments. The new Gen III globes and High-Beam LED globes can be purchased from leading automotive and 4x4 stockists. For more information, visit www.narva.com.au
PASM COMPATIBLE BILSTEIN SHOCK ABSORBERS
For Porsche models with actively controlled suspension
“Comfortable or dynamic?” A few years ago, Bilstein says car manufacturers had to decide on one of these two focal points early on in the development of their vehicles. After all, passive shock absorbers of classic design only have one characteristic curve that defines the damping behaviour. Their tuning can therefore only ever be a compromise between comfortable and dynamic tuning, explains Bilstein. It says modern shock absorbers with active control, on the other hand, enable the perfect balancing act, as the suspension can be adapted to the prevailing situation on the road: either completely automatically or at the touch of a button. One example is “Porsche Active Suspension Management” (PASM), which is based on Bilstein’s innovative DampTronic technology. Accordingly, the suspension specialists from Germany also offer suitable products with full PASM compatibility in the independent aftermarket (IAM). “For Porsche, we are one of the very few suppliers that offer these shock absorbers in the aftermarket,” said Mustafa Yavuz, who is responsible for the technical support of workshops at Bilstein Technical Support. “Of course, in the IAM we also benefit significantly from our expertise in original equipment.” “Two suspensions in one”: why PASM compatibility is important
With PASM, Porsche drivers can set different damper characteristics and thus damper settings. In other words, the active suspension system combines two suspensions into one: a dynamic and comfortable one for the long haul and a particularly dynamic one for the circuit. This high spread between more responsive driving dynamics and high comfort is particularly important for Porsche and its discerning clientele. As with the OEM parts, the PASM-compatible suspension components from Bilstein are said to be easy to install according to the plug and play principle. Bilstein says this applies to OE replacements and improved OE replacements as well as to the performance segment. It says the harmonious damper settings were developed on the test bench and in Bilstein road tests. However, it states Bilstein shock absorbers support all factory features, and not just for Porsche. “Whether it’s PASM for Porsche, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for Volkswagen, C.A.T.S. for Jaguar Land Rover or the adaptive suspensions for BMW or Mercedes-Benz: workshops will find the right solution from us in the field of adjustable shock absorbers for every vehicle model,” Mustafa said. AUTEL INTELLIGENT ADAS IA800
Autel’s IA800 Intelligent ADAS optical positioning system enables technicians to accomplish frame to vehicle placement in minutes prior to ADAS component calibration. Autel explains that the Intelligent ADAS optical positioning system features six high-resolution cameras to deliver three-dimension adjustment for the most accurate frame centering and vehicle distance recognition. Designed for seamless integration with Autel’s standard calibration frame, this new component system optically measures four wheel clamp targets to significantly cut down setup time and increase placement precision. Wheel clamps with camera targets are attached to the rear wheels and a standing target component is placed in the front or to the side of the vehicle, depending on the vehicle make, model and year. It can recognise the positioning targets and calculates the current angle, distance and offset position of the frame to the vehicle. The technician simply follows the onscreen instructions to move the frame or adjust its angel until the current values match the required values. A green check mark displays for each parameter once the required position values are achieved and the vehicle is ready for calibration. Ensuring a vehicle is correctly aligned, especially one that has been involved in even a minor collision, is essential to ensuring a correct ADAS component calibration. The Intelligent ADAS system provides a precalibration alignment verification to confirm OE specified alignment tolerances before ADAS calibration begins. The Alignment Pre Check capability uses the IA800’s camera system and targeted wheel clamps attached to all four wheels to determine the vehicle’s current alignment specifications and compare them with the vehicle manufacturer’s allowed tolerances. If within OE-specified tolerances, the technician can proceed to optical positioning of the frame to the vehicle. If the vehicle is shown to be out of the OE’s tolerance range, a four-wheel alignment is recommended. Autel says the IA800 system is incredibly userfriendly with the tablet displaying vehicle- specific, step by step instructions for the technician; stating that it is a true game-changer for pre-calibration setup in both speed and accuracy. Powered by Autel diagnostics, the Intelligent ADAS optical positioning system reportedly confirms your ADAS calibrations are faster, more accurate and repeatable every time. M12 FUEL DIGITAL TORQUE WRENCH
From Milwaukee Tools
Automotive warranty claims are a minefield for Automotive Workshop Owners. In most cases, these end up in a stand-off between the workshop owner and the component suppliers. The component suppliers argue that the component was installed incorrectly, while the workshop owner position is that the component was faulty and failed. Of course, proving the case, either way, is difficult when the engine or gearbox is spread all over the road. In most cases, the failure will destroy the evidence ending in a stalemate, in which the workshop owner is left to remedy the issue. Milwaukee identified this issue and set about developing a system that would provide workshop owners with the data necessary to prove that components had been installed to specified torque specifications set up by automotive and component manufacturers. Milwaukee product engineers were charged with developing a new and innovative digital torque wrench that would add additional functionality to their existing One-Key tool management platform. The brief was to allow workshop owners to quickly and easily develop customised reporting that would save ‘successful events’ on the tool and generate a Torque Record in the One-Key app. Milwaukee’s One-Key is a collaborative tool and equipment platform that helps jobs run smoother. It is compatible with all inventory management methods. It is designed to help automotive workshop owners keep track of tools and equipment, from asset ID tagging and equipment trackers to barcode scanning and geofencing. In addition to tool tracking and security, Milwaukee’s One-Key allows users to dial in precision settings, view utilisation data, and get alerted before equipment needs repair. While the new M12 Fuel 1/2” and 3/8” Digital Torque Wrench are the first motorised torque wrenches on the market, Milwaukee Tool says the true innovation is in the updated OneKey technology that has been integrated into the range. The combination of which delivers increased productivity, precise torque accuracy, and user demanded reporting functionality. This user demanded reporting functionality provides automotive workshop owners with the
SENSIUM CONNECT
A game-changing way to manage live electric vehicle data
From the Nissan Leaf’s debut in 2011 to the present growing electric vehicle industry in 2022, Sensium says its development breakthroughs address a decade of fleet management challenges. Its Sensium Connect Dashboard allows not only the management of live data, but also securely encrypted remote vehicle control for electric vehicles as well, while remote vehicle shutdown, door lock and unlock are all also now possible with ease. However, it’s not just drivers that are taken care of when live-reporting tyre pressure information, tyre temperatures, seat-belt status, battery temperature and driver identification – the capitalised value of an electric vehicle at the conclusion of a lease term can also be maximised. The condition of the battery is the most significant factor in determining an electric vehicle’s value at the conclusion of a lease. Consumers who buy second-hand are specifically concerned with battery health, so therefore peak battery condition is crucial. Before the electric vehicle is put up for sale, a thorough report can be created using Sensium Connect, maximising the sales price by including many details of the automobile’s condition. To pull all of this together, Sensium says its proprietary CAN Monitoring software runs on its locally developed and manufactured TB220 Vehicle Telemetry Device and continually monitors and interrogates the CAN bus for certain data being sent around the vehicle, such as: • Odometer • Battery State of Charge • Battery Temperature • Battery State of Health • Driver & Passenger Seatbelts • Tyre Pressures • Tyre Temperatures • DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) • 12v battery Condition • Outside Air Temp • EV Charging State • and many other pieces of data applicable to fleet management and driver safety data required to shift the burden of warranty claims to the component manufacturers in the event of a catastrophic failure. This tool provides simple one-button recording functionality to save the data and then customise a report of this data to provide verification for inspectors or engineers - ultimately removing the need to manually record the torque value for each fastener. Up to 28,500 torque events can be saved on the tool, and unlimited events can be stored within the One-Key app. These One-Key reports can be easily customised and organised for the job at hand. In addition, One-Key allows users to wirelessly connect to the tool through their smartphone to customise the tool settings, track its location, manage it in their equipment inventory, and lock out the tool for added security. For more information, visit www.milwaukeetools.com.au
These are not simple Service Mode 1 messages, and require decoding per vehicle make/model/ year. The data is packaged by the TB2-20 and sent to the platform, which then decodes the message, and understands the contents. This is securely passed to the cloud platform, stored (for a minimum of seven years), and displayed in an easy to understand User Interface (UI). This data, in a decoded form, is also made available to third party software in API. This helps Pool Vehicle Booking Software to automatically select the best vehicle for a driver’s needs. The Vehicle Status dashboard from Sensium Labs, as an add-on to Sensium Connect, is also now available in beta to early access customers and EV industry advocates and is already being utilised to make educated decisions about electric vehicle use. All hydraulic products are easily identifiable by displaying the letters ‘dba’ on the cylinder body. Importantly, like all DBA parts, the new range has been meticulously catalogued on DBA’s online ‘Part Finder’ catalogue, accessible via their website dba.com.au This includes a unique database of competitor-to-DBA cross-references to facilitate part identification. Technically, DBA says like with all its products, it makes no compromises when it comes to quality and durability of the new range. The hydraulic parts are manufactured to the highest available quality standards, conforming to TS 16949, the internationally recognised Quality Management System specification for the automotive industry. Full traceability is integral to the success of the manufacturing process and ensures complete compliance at all stages of manufacturing from raw materials to the finished goods. As such, Disc Brakes Australia explains that as a business it is compliant to ISO 9001, guaranteeing all processes are continuously monitored. As part of its quality assurance process, DBA scans all OE products as a reference. All DBA sub-components and sub-assemblies are likewise measured and inspected at each stage to ensure the product is equal to or exceeds any OE specifications. Particularly, all plastic components and reservoirs are 1:1 re-engineered to OE specs to be impervious to the required fluids. Prior to sign-off and shipping at completion of production, randomly selected parts are both performance-tested and environmentally tested. DBA says it ensures all parts go through a full durability test regime inclusive of ambient and high/low temp testing. Internal checks are carried out for bore roundness, roughness and hardness. All reservoirs are pressure tested, as well as all springs and seals for completeness. Each product is also sealed prior to boxing, ensuring the product is free from particulate matter for direct use at the workshop straight from the box. All hydraulic components are covered by DBA’s product warranty of 12 months or 20,000km. For further information, head to www.dba.com.au or call 1800 730 039.

JB WELD SILICONES
A wide range of products are available now through HPP Lunds
Many companies worldwide are finding the supply of silicone is becoming difficult, but Americanbased JB Weld says it has no supply problems and states the company’s strong ties with its Australian distributor, HPP Lunds, means the large range of JB Weld Silicones remain on shelves now and into the future. JB Weld uses 100 percent silicone for its product range which it says is ideal for gaskets because it has very low shrinkage when cured, and the material remains compliant without being hard or brittle. It is also resistant to gas, diesel, oil and other automotive fluids, so it won’t disintegrate over time. Products include: • Ultimate Black RTV (Room Temperature
Vulcanized) is commonly used in OEM applications and has a higher resistance to heat with maximum oil resistance, high flexibility and it is sensor safe. Suitable for sumps, valve covers, timing gear covers and transmission pans. • Ultimate Grey RTV is for high torque uses like intake manifolds where high torque loads are applied to the sealant. This sealant is more flexible when cured and remains oil resistant. It
is temperature resistant to 260ºC and is sensor safe. • Hi Temp Red RTV is designed for use in mechanical assemblies where the existence of higher, continuous temperatures up to 288ºC or 343ºC intermittent might exist. Upon curing the silicone forms a tough, waterproof seal on most surfaces. It will not shrink or crack, resists weathering and is sensor safe. • Copper RTV is three times more oil resistant than conventional silicones and designed to resist the high operating temperatures of turbocharged or high-performance engines. It is also designed for use in mechanical assemblies where high torque or closely spaced bolt profiles can lead to higher loads and cause gasket and sealing failures for average silicones. • Blue RTV is a general-purpose silicone. Uses include sumps and water pumps as it is waterproof, flexible and does not shrink. It is also very useful for mechanical assembly bonding of uneven surfaces. • Black RTV is a general-purpose product used for sealing a variety of metals, rubber and glass. It
has high flexibility and is waterproof and is also very useful for mechanical assembly bonding of uneven surfaces. • White RTV is a general-purpose silicone for use in mechanical assembly applications and forms a tough, waterproof, mildew and mould resistant seal. • Clear RTV is good to use where you don’t want the product to be easily seen such as sealing windscreens. It works on ceramics, cloth, carpet, glass, rubber and metals. While JB Weld RTV silicone is ideal for permanent seals it can also be used in applications where repeated removal is necessary, such as valve covers. MICROSHIELD CABIN AIR FILTER
For Isuzu N and F Series Trucks from Ryco
On the road, drivers are exposed to air pollution daily – in fact professional drivers can receive up to six-times the particulates, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other air pollution compared to regular commuters. Fine particles are highly hazardous to health, and they find their way into the cabin through the Heating, Cooling and Ventilation (HVAC) system, normally guarded by a cabin air filter. These filters deliver safer breathing conditions for vehicle occupants, keeping the cabin clean and protecting against harmful exhaust gasses, noxious odours, dust, and pollen containments that can develop into mould and bacteria. Ryco says its MicroShield Cabin Air Filter (RCA428M) is a world first and industry leading product, designed and developed with the advanced skillsets of local engineering. It says the product showcases not only the ability to innovate and create a filtration product, but a health focused solution, which will improve the lives of thousands of professional drivers, previously exposed to road pollution daily. The filter can be easily fitted to Isuzu N and F series trucks by untrained operators and integrates seamlessly into the ventilation system (HVAC) providing full airflow and a service interval that matches the other standard service filters. To fit the vehicles whilst using the existing bolt profile connection points and ensuring a highly accurate surface seal (to eliminate filter bypass), 3D scanning, and CAD modelling technology was utilised when designing the prototype models for both N and F series trucks. 3D printing enabled a rapid prototype series to be produced and Ryco’s own MicroShield media fitted. Ryco says special care was taken to design a housing that not only provided the required seal and air flow characteristics, but also took advantage of existing fasteners for ease of fitment on both models. Ryco’s engineering team developed the RCA428M using the MicroShield N99 flame retardant media. The media integrates an anti-viral and bacterial prefilter to eliminate biological agents, an activated carbon barrier to remove chemicals and odours and an electrostatically charged nano-fibre filter to capture fine particles. The MicroShield N99 filter element features a genuine 0.3-micron filtration capability proven with lab testing. These filters combine an order of magnitude improvement in filtration while meeting serviceability requirements and customer demand. For more information, visit www.rycofilters.com
NARVA EXPANDS PERFORMANCE GLOBE RANGE
New ‘Plus 200’ range released
Narva has released its highest performing halogen headlight globes to date, with the release of the powerful ‘Plus 200’ range. Narva says this new range offers a remarkable 200 percent greater light volume compared to standard halogen globes. Along with this impressive light volume comes longer beam penetration of up to 80 metres more distance. Another key benefit of Plus 200 performance globes is their quality of light which is 20 percent whiter (3750°K) than standard globes – with Narva explaining that white light more closely resembles daylight and helps to reduce driver eye fatigue for improved visibility and added safety.
Unlike many LED globe upgrades, Narva says the Plus 200 range is ADR-approved and totally street legal, providing a safe and efficient upgrade to OEM lighting and making them suitable across a variety of automotive applications. EQUIP YOUR WORKSHOP FOR THE ROAD AHEAD
Snap-on has you covered
Feedback from the Snap-on franchisee network is that at the moment, the industry is buzzing with activity and workshops across the country have never been busier. The knock-on effect from two years of disruption has created a backlog of vehicle servicing and maintenance work. Meanwhile, new car shortages means more second-hand cars are on the road with an increased focus to maintain and extend the life of these vehicles. This is good news for workshops but they are not without their own challenges. Ongoing skills shortages and staff availability are still impacting day-to-day operations. It is no wonder workshop owners are not getting the chance to stop and take stock. However, Snap-on says now is the time to ensure your workshop has the best tools and equipment to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of your business. Charging forward with diagnostics
With Snap-on’s range of diagnostic test equipment and scan tools, workshops can streamline and optimise repair operations. Available are smart tools, including thermal imagers that can identify electrical faults or hot spots, through to vehicle diagnostic platforms with class leading software packages offering guided test procedures. There is also a full range of scanners, thermal imagers and test equipment on offer, so technicians can be ready to effectively diagnose and repair the latest vehicle technology with confidence. Revolutionise your servicing range and speed
This year, Snap-on tools has released new workshop equipment solutions including hoists, air conditioning stations, wheel balancers and tyre changers. This is alongside its extensive range of technician tools and ever-expanding diagnostic solutions. Vehicle hoists are the heart of the workshop and Snap-on says it has a range to suit your floorspace and workflow from its 3.5T double service scissor to its 4.5T and 5.4T two post options, as well as a 5.4T four post model. These are heavy-duty units that allow you to efficiently manage the increased demand in your workshop. Snap-on says you can maximise technician efficiency with its scissor lift capable of a nominal load lift in only 45 seconds. Meanwhile, its two post lifts - with dual stage front and rear arms, allows a wider range of vehicles to be raised. Air Conditioning
Snap-on’s latest automatic air conditioning stations reflect the growing demand for highquality units that make AC service work both safe and profitable. Blizzard IV and Breeze IV units that work alongside leak detection kits, cordless work lights and digital dual thermometers can increase billable repairs, when performing recovery and recharging of both R134A and R1234yf refrigerants. Wheel and tyre service
Snap-on’s new range of dual speed tyre changers (available in 22” and 24”) allow technicians to quickly demount, install and safely bead with precise control. The 24” unit has a top mount pneumatic bead assist making short work when seating the most stubborn tyres. For fast and precise weighting, Snap-on says its SAPE arm equipped wheel balancers automatically enter wheel configuration then use laser technology to accurately pinpoint weight placement with a fast 4.5 second cycle time. Build workshop performance with the right tools
Service and repair processes can be simplified and streamlined by just having the right tools on hand. It’s now more important than ever to meet customer demands by making your business the “go-to” workshop. Snap-on says your local franchisee can talk in detail on how to incorporate Snap-on’s range in a way that optimises your shop’s workflow. Equipment and tools can be purchased with the help of Snap-on finance solutions. For more information, visit www.snapontools.com.au
NEXT GENERATION WIPER BLADE TECHNOLOGY
From Trico
Trico Products has announced the release of its new Swift Top Lock Connector system, which it says is a revolutionary new multi-fit connector system designed to be simple, fast and easy to use. Trico Products says the secret to its popular Trico Force and Trico Tech beam blade wipers is this new system. Designed to make installation a simple task, the new connector system ensures the correct arm mount is securely attached to the blade simply and easily. To complement the new Swift Top Lock connector, each Trico Force and Tech blade is supplied with a range of multi-fit adapters for hook, pinch tab, push button and side pin wiper arms. The new Swift Top Lock connector system replaces the outgoing L-Bracket connector (Force) and OFF SET connector (Tech). Trico says the new system significantly improves the connector mechanism that the arm adaptor uses to connect to each blade. Designed with simplicity and performance in mind, the new connector removes any of the guess work when it comes to ensuring a secure blade connection. Designed with a sturdy rail and slot system, the installer simply locks the connector in place by engaging the locking button, to remove disengage the lock button and slide the connector off. By locking the connector to the blade, the new system ensures the blade cannot accidentally disengage from the connector. By aligning both Trico Beam Blade ranges with the same adaptor system Trico says it hopes to streamline its fitment instructions across both of its already easy to install multi-fit beam blades. Broad wiper blade coverage
Whilst some wiper brands require 30 to 40 SKUs to cater for popular vehicles. Trico Multi-Fit beam blades reportedly provide over 96 percent of the Australian Car Parc fitment demand. Trico explains this means retailers and workshops have an opportunity to dramatically increase stock turns with upwards of 70 percent less SKUs to cover their vehicle demand, all with just 12-part numbers. Trico says that as a leader in global windscreen wiper blade manufacture, it has “always been the brand that offers superior wiper performance and quality,” stating that its products “provide superior visibility solutions making tomorrow safer for everyone on the road.” For more information, visit www.tricoproducts.com.au or call 03 9271 3288.
