SHANNONS ADELAIDE RALLY GEARS UP FOR NEW COMPETITION

Applications to enter the 2023 Shannons Adelaide Rally have opened Organisers are offering a suite of categories at this year’s Shannons Adelaide Rally, including the Outright Competition, 130km/h-limited Challenge category, Spirit Tour and Main Tour categories as well as the half-day introductory Prima Tour event.

The 2023 Shannons Adelaide Rally is scheduled to run between November 16th and 19th, with the Prima Tour event held on Friday November 17th. Some 30 stages are planned that are all traditional Shannons Adelaide Rally stages of old.

“We have been working closely with Motorsport Australia throughout the review period and in simple terms the result is quite similar to what we see in Europe and most other parts of the world in respect to rules for competitive tarmac rally cars,” Shannons Adelaide Rally Event Organiser, Tim Possingham, said.

“They are essentially the same as gravel rally rules. We believe that this will deliver more parity amongst the field here in Australia.

“I think a technical alignment between the two disciplines will normalise the sport and will be better in the long term, but we do recognise that for some people they won’t need to change a thing on their car whilst others may need to add restrictors and add roll cage members.

“We are fortunate enough to have a high percentage of our course that complies with the new course recommendations handed down by Motorsport Australia.

“They are technical, tight and twisty stages with a lot of guard-railing and embankments and very low average speeds. They are real drivers’ roads.”

Known for its festive feel, the Shannons Adelaide Rally will feature the Gouger Street Party, Strathalbyn and Bridgewater lunch stops, Wairoa spectator stage and a final stage on part of the Adelaide 500 circuit, with that event being run
