HERCULINER

Put your load to bed easily and safely

JB Weld has added Herculiner to its product lines. It explains that Herculiner is the only polyurethane and rubber granule coating able to be applied in just three easy steps to ute trays, truck beds and other surfaces.

JB Weld says the proprietary solvent-based formula allows Herculiner to adhere better to surfaces than water-based products, and it can bond to virtually any surface or material including wood, metal, concrete, aluminium, asphalt, rubber, fibreglass and plastics including PVC. By sealing the surface Herculiner prevents rust and is also resistant to petrol, oils, solvents and other chemicals. When cured Herculiner provides a textured tough, durable, skid resistant protective coating that won’t chip, flake or peel and prevents rust.

While other coatings when damaged need to be removed or gouged, Herculiner adheres to itself and so can easily be repaired with additional applications.

Herculiner can be painted using a polyurethanebased paint and the best time to apply paint is within 24 hours of Herculiner becoming dry to the touch.

A brush, roller or spray compressor can be used to apply Herculiner. Step one is to prepare the surface by cleaning it of dirt and grime and masking off the areas to be painted. All paint areas must be scuffed to remove gloss and the surfaces wiped down with Xylene (Xylol), Acetone or MEK solution using a rag.

Next, it is suggested Herculiner not only be thoroughly mixed before use, but also mixed during application to help the rubber particles remain suspended and ensure even application. A light first topcoat acts as a primer. Allow Herculiner to dry to the touch for four hours and when the topcoat no longer feels tacky, you can apply a second coat which should cure for at least 24 hours before light use or three-five days before heavy use.

Herculiner is available in a Bed Liner Kit which has everything you need to get the job done including two rollers, one brush, 3.78L of Herculiner and one abrasive pad.

For those who already have brushes and abrasive pads there are two sizes of Herculiner tins. The 946ml tin will cover around 1.4 square metres with two coats, and the larger 3.78 litre tin will cover around 5.5 square metres.

Herculiner is also available in an aerosol spray which is great for touch-ups, cutting in before applying with a roller or for protecting hard-toreach areas like wheel wells.
