Develop a modernization strategy after evaluating key applications, and identifying business benefits, risks, and dependencies. This helps determine the functional, technological, and monetary relevance of the apps.

Depending on their target and intermediate functioning models, significant technical and regulatory needs, and extensive data transfer requirements, applications are categorized, rated, and arranged in a certain order. As a result, you will be better able to prioritize and create a detailed modernization strategy.

Decide the approach: Rehost, Refactor, or Re-platform?

The process of migrating applications to the cloud is referred to as cloud migration, and the "Rs" stand for "Rehost, Re-platform, Refactor, Retire, Replace, or Retain." When an application cannot simply be rehosted, it has to be improved. A phase in the modernization of the Platform is selecting between refactoring and re-platforming.

Re-platform – With minimal to no code modification, re-platforming ensures that it delivers the same functionality. Refactor – Refactoring, often known to as rearchitecting, is the process of disassembling apps and rebuilding them using a cloud-native design.

4. Perform application modernization in phases After building a modernization plan that defines MVP development phases, goals, and risks, you are ready to move and upgrade cloud apps. Moving key apps first allows you to run them simultaneously while updating and migrating them to ensure service availability.
