Firm Organization & Credentials Anderson Anderson Architecture is a respected, award-winning design firm with experience in a broad range of project types, and a specialization in fast-track, design-build pre-fabricated and modular construction. Partners Mark Anderson and Peter Anderson started the firm in Tacoma as a design-build construction company in 1984. With a strong foundation in the practicalities of construction, Anderson Anderson Architecture has since grown into a diversely experienced, design-oriented architecture firm collaborating with other architecture and engineering firms, general contractors, manufacturers and construction professionals to provide clients with specialized expertise in construction systems, design excellence, high-quality execution, and experienced representation of the client’s interests throughout the construction process. Close association with diverse teams of experienced design, engineering, and construction collaborators provides a depth and range of expertise that has allowed Anderson Anderson Architecture to accomplish many complex projects of varying scales with a high degree of economy, creativity and recognized excellence in both design and finished construction. Maintaining a relatively small in-house design staff assures close personal attention to the firm’s design projects. Mark and Peter Anderson work together as the lead designers directing each of the firm’s projects, working closely with our clients and collaborators. Anderson Anderson has built extensively in the Pacific Northwest and California, and has also completed numerous projects in other parts of the United States, Japan, China, and Europe. Best known for original, finely crafted modern buildings personally developed for individual sites and clients, Anderson Anderson also has developed substantial experience in affordable, fast-track, modular and prefabricated building systems. Working directly with clients, manufacturers and government agencies in the United States and abroad, Anderson Anderson has designed and built numerous buildings and modular prefabrication systems creatively exploiting new construction technologies and project delivery systems focused on high-quality, affordable and sustainable building methods. Anderson Anderson’s work has been widely published in the U.S., Asia and Europe, and recognized with numerous awards for its creativity in merging design excellence with cost-effective, high-quality execution and green technology. The firm’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions including at the Venice Biennale of Architecture, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Technology and Industry in Hamburg, and in publications such as Architecture, Architectural Record, Plan, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Builder, Journal of Light Construction, and in numerous books and international publications. ANDERSON ANDERSON ARCHITECTURE
Statement of Approach: Affordable, High-Quality Construction “Buildings need to work well, and fulfill the richly mundane necessities of daily experience as well as a community’s loftier cultural aspirations. Peter and I began our architecture careers as carpenters and building contractors. For many years we designed and built highly-crafted individual buildings. As we began to build larger buildings with larger crews, and especially as our construction company began to build extensively in Japan, we became intensely involved in issues of construction affordability based on rationalized systems engineering, pre-fabrication, and project administration streamlining. To serve people well, buildings need to be affordable, and building processes need to be well organized, crisis-free, and as conducive to a good quality of life for the construction crews and project administrators as for the final end users. During the past ten years we have shifted out of hands-on construction, but have continued to focus our design work on innovative systems for affordability in high-quality construction. Our expertise in this area, developed in many projects—including Japanese and American government projects, and design and construction consulting projects with large corporations such as Sumitomo Industries in Japan—has been widely recognized with awards, publications and television programs. We propose to bring imagination and cutting-edge design creativity to this project, but this creativity will be well-founded in collaborative construction, engineering and financial planning experience within our own firm and through all of our project collaborators.”
