In 2011, the Indian national census results displayed wide distortion in the gender metrics. Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB). The sex ratio which was 945 in 1999 declined to 927 in 2001. Furthermore, this number dropped to 918 in 2011. This means, for every 1000 boys, there were just 918 girls by 2011. These figures are clear indicators of gender discrimination and how male children are preferred over females. They spoke bitter truths about sex-selective abortions, post-birth abandonments and ruthless killings of girl children. To address the concerns of gender discrimination, the government of India introduced the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme in 2015.
