INTRODUCTION
ANDREA RUIZ COLL Graphic design student
Looking, thinking, explaining but the most important thing is to observe. Only if you observe you will see what the reality hides.
When I was a child, I had a very clear idea about what I was going to do in the future, that’s plastic arts. It is what I always saw at home and it drawn my attention. One day while I was looking through the window of the car, I saw a restaurant and I started to tell to my parents how I would do the corporate brand of my future restaurant. In that moment I discovered the profession which I would like to dedicate my whole life, I mean graphic designer.

Graphic design is my favorite part of design, in this chapter, you will see my favorite works about all this projects I made.

MISS WOOD
This is a personal project were I designed one dypthic for Miss Wood, one studio in Barcelona that makes wood planks with screen-printed messages.

The background is a wood texture to recreate the concpet of the studio.

Inside you can see the essence of the studio, some projects they made and one of the phrases they put in the wood planks. In the back side appears the adress and online shop. And the photography show that they enjoy doing his work.

BARCELONA POSTCARDS
The objective of this project was to create twelve postcards of my city, Barcelona, about three different topics and four different targets. I chose tradition, gastronomy and architecture and my targets were kids, teenagers, adults and future.

For kids, I decided to create a game. I made two holes in all postcards for kids to play with them With their fingers they can play and create an story.

For teenagers, I thought that one of the drinks which they consume the most is coffe. I drew some illustrations including this drink.

Some adults have a rutinary life and I think that his life is not as colorful as the children’s life, so I made minimalism postcards.

Finally the future target was more open, I thought about them like when you start one project and you finish it in the future. Skectches are the base of this project, I had to drew a lot of them to reach the final idea. I had been looking for a diferents models to get the inspiration. Finally I think that my postcards are nice and they achive the objective of this work.

ESSENCE
This was the project that I really enjoyed the most . The statement was: you have to recreate the essence of one place using one story. I chose the airport because I think that its the place with more feelings in the world. Happiness, sadness, lost people, angryness... My story was about one man which his flight has been delayed and he had to spend three hours in the airport observing people and their actitudes. I created the story in one passport, this man drew the people and made polaroid photographies to put them in his travel book.

Finally, I decided to create one travel kit, it includes the pasport (with the story), the ticket, one map and information for the trip. In the photography you can see the packaging, one folder that simulate an envelope.

The pictures above shows the inside of the pasport, the ilustrations, the text that I wrote and polaroid photographies.

First I did the briefing map with all the possibilities I could find in the airport, later I studied all the feelings and I searched for texts about airports. Finally I went to the airport of BCN and I started to draw and create the story.

XOCS OLĂ?MPICS
In the world of the Olympics it is well known that always brings to us the most important news, the records, the innovations and and also those athletes who achieve their dreams. The Olympics is a world event which stops time and people are joined in the sports that follow. But have you ever put to think how to get carry out Olympics? What laws and regulations are behind? All the information they give us is the one that is there?

My final degree project consists of a book containing information about the Olympics which has not usually been shared with ordinary people. In order to achieve this goal, I created a new visual discourse where I talk about various controversial issues related to the Olympic world through the illustrations and graphics. The design of the information has been the tool I developed to carry out this project.

LIQUICK
It was the funniest project I made. I have only three hours to create a new logotip for a new enterprise of liquid food: salads, meat, juice... but all of them had to be liquid. The only thing that I had were my sketcbook, pencils and colours, no computers and not to much time to create.

In the first 30 minuts, the teachers explained us the concept of the enterprise, they show us pictures, and others companies that do the same food to inspire us. And the two hours and a half left I had to create the logo.

The name was liquick, a mix between liquid and quick. I wanted to express three basic concepts of this brand. All the food was liquid, they were a fast food company and I wanted to focus this brand on young people (dinamyc, expressive and funny people).

LOGOTIP REDESIGN
I chose one ONG and studied the concept. I had to analyse the original logotip and find the wrong things and then propose a new one.

This is my final proposal. My ONG is a Homeless dog and cat protective association. The name is “Animals without roof”. I had to make all basic stationery, a brand manual, and some aplications.

Analyse the original logotip, was the first thing I did, later I make contrabriefing, with some different colours, shapes and typografies, finaly I started to drew different possibilities and I vectorized the one that I like the most. It was the time to put colours and typografies.

FRACTILE
The idea was to create a gastro space where kids with special needs, using their senses and hands, could learn and connect with other kids through cooking activities. These activities would help develop their skills, both socially and by knowing. Using the process of cooking and investigating different flavours and smells by: Touching Smelling Guidance from the therapists/chefs And their vision, seeing those colours Using this idea of a multi-sensorial space to create a space where the kids can cook, have fun and learn will encourage them in other aspects of life as well using the sense of empowerment they get from cooking. It’s also a great way for some of these kids to learn social skills and communication in a relaxed and non hostile environment.

The final logo is the name of the space with a wave cutout of the bottom part of the word, in a gestalt theory manner, creating a link between the kids and the identity of the space through the concept of hiden personality and subconscious.

SMOS
How to transcend with the most simple and ephemeral gesture, to leave the best spark in the gradient of memory. Bringing TOUS closer to a different audience, and providing new value to the brand through an action: a sweet that transports you. A sweet emotional jewel. Based on the ephemeral concept we arrived to, and with the established input of the candy, we realized that the smoke had to be inside of it. We made different tests with sugar, with different processes and forms until we arrived to an empty sphere inside because of its continuity and its capacity of storge of the smoke.

With this logo I wanted to show the fineness of the sugar that we work with and at the same time the elegancy of our product. We made some experimetns with liquids and smoke. I took that pictures to have some inspiration about the drawings.

TYPOGRAPHIC POSTER
This was a creation of a typographic poster for the open doors of the university Desgins Skolen in Kolding, Denmark. I had to think about something that I think about design. Then use the Frutinger typo to create a poster without ilustrations or photographies.

The final day they put some of our works in the University to show the people what some desgin students think about design.

ILLUSTRATOR PORTRAITS Using a picture as a base, I created portraits taking those characteristics relevant of each person and capture them. First I made the self-portrait, later i decided to make a new portraits of friends.

HANDMADE DRAWINGS
I learned to draw from the base, some works were draw without looking the paper, only the object I had in front. This way I learned to observe everything in the object and express it in the paper.

This was a project were I studied two fruits, its form, its textures and colours. I love working in my table with my colors and draw tools.

CALLIGRAPHY
In graphic design there are a lot of possibilities to express ourself, and one of them is calligraphy. I had the oportunity to learn this. I did four big projects, and learned Noiland typography, Carolingian and italic.

This second project was about Carolignian calligraphy, I wrote one text about Martin Luther King without lined sheed and center justify.

This was the project of italic calligraphy, I created a logotype with one word which describe me and try to have coherence between word and scripture.

This was the last project of calligraphy, I applied all the skills I had learnt in one composition. I chose one poem of Miquel MartĂ i Pol which talks about dreams.

SWAB STAIRS
This was a contest, Elisava bring the oportunity to all graphic design students coursing second course of graphic design to participate in it. The objective was to create a vynil for passseig de gracia underground’s stairs. There were three contexts to create: music, sostenibility and equality. I choose the first and second one topic.

For the sostenibility I try to crate a carpet of green leaves that ate the logotip of TMB (Metropolitan transport of Barcelona). I try to create the messege that if we will use public transport we will be contributing to save the environment.

For music i did an equalizator, using the colours of the lines in Barcelona underground. I create the messege that in underground we can find a lot of good music rather in our head with headphones or in music zones.

COLOR BOOK
I made this book to investigate and experiment with colours. I thing that this project was funny because I have freedom to do all the palettes that I want, and diferent contrast and harmonies.

One of my favourite hobbies, it is the photography. I think that I can capture everything I want with my camera and save memories for the future.

I’m in love with animals since I was born, I like all animals and I enjoy make photos about them. In the following pages you can see a small sample of my favourite animal photos. All of them I did it by myself.

NATURE
I love travel, and I try to travel every time I can and I have been lucky to saw a beautiful landscapes and different kind of nature, green zones, flower, gardens,... With my camera on my hands I don’t stop to think a second to use it .

LOMOGRAPHY
A part from the digital photography, I have started to learn analogical photography. I think it is a diferent way to see the photography , the images you can get have a magical component, moreover the result is always a surprise, you never know it until you reveal them.

MOMENTS
I always bring my camera with me, when I travel with my friends or with my family I am the photographer and I love it because I can make my memories like I want. Capture this moments when people is not aware of the camera and natural photographies is one of my passions.
