who we are The Australasian Association of Professional Organisers (AAPO) was incorporated in November 2005 as a non-profit organisation to educate the public about Professional Organising and benefit members by growing the industry. Our committee is made up of volunteer members from two countries and across several different time zones, but we all share one thing in common; we’re passionate about organising, growing our industry and professional development. In 2011 we developed AAPO’s first Strategic Plan. The process of doing this has given us clarity about the direction of the Committee and how we can best assist our members. All activities are conducted under our three main portfolios: Membership, PR and Events. Each Portfolio is managed by a Committee member and has a uniform structure. what is a
professional organiser? A Professional Organiser is someone who creates customised solutions to help others get organised. They help their clients find balance, restore order and maximise their resources. They provide ideas, information, structure, solutions, tools and systems which increase productivity, reduce stress and lead to more control over individual resources.
what do they do?
Professional Organisers can assist in a wide variety of ways + Workplace organsing may include: design of filing systems, purging, decluttering and organising, paper management, procurement of office supplies and equipment, space planning, processes and paper/workflow, information and records management, archiving and storage, procedures manuals and moving/relocations. + Domestic organsing may include: storage design and organisation, spatial planning, purging, de-cluttering and organising of space and storage, errands and personal shopping, storage solutions, co-ordination

how do I know if I’ve got the right organiser?
You should feel comfortable with your organiser. The extent to which you “click” with your organiser can make or break the process, so take the time to find an organiser with whom you feel at ease. You want to be treated with respect and compassion. A good organiser is there to support and assist you and will not be judgemental, critical or overly pushy. Your organiser will give you flexible, personalised assistance. Your organiser should be able to adapt tools and techniques to fit your individual needs. Be sure to ask about their experience and expertise.

If you want to bring a little order to your life or love the perfect storage solution, this event is especially for you. AAPO are working behind the scenes to create many opportunities for you to get involved. During National Organising Week AAPO members will run a variety of activities including events, workshops, promotions, competitions and free advice in selected locations.
AAPO’s members and Forum groups are vital to the success of our event and we challenge every member and Forum group to create or participate in their own National Organising Week activity. Members can log into the Member Resources section of this website to download the Forum & Member participation guide and help plan your involvement. The 2012 version will be available shortly. Write down your motivation for organising this space and visualise how you want the space to look, feel and function. Consider one area of your home or office to start on. For example - pantry, office cubicle, home office, children’s bedroom, garage etc. Take a ‘before’ photo and remember your vision if the going gets tough.
You can post before and after photos, write about your experience and ask questions of AAPO’s team of Professional Organisers.
3. SORT & PURGE 2. CLEAR & CLEAN Clear the area you’ve chosen to organise and clean all surfaces. This is the chance to start with a clean slate and you’ll be amazed how it inspires you to use the space better.
4. ASSIGN, STORE & LABEL Give the items you have decided to keep an assigned place to live. Choose storage solutions that allow easy access to the items. Use words or pictures to label items so you never forget what you have. Labelling takes the guesswork out of finding what you need quickly and easily.
Sort your items into categories like Keep, Sell, Donate, Trash, Recycle, Repair. Group items that belong together or perform similar purposes for quick referral & ease of use. Dispose of the items you no longer need responsibly.
5. CELEBRATE! Step back and admire your efforts. Take an ‘after’ photo and compare the two images. Enjoy the clarity of mind as well as your enhanced physical space. Celebrate your success with a well-deserved treat.

When organising a space hold a vision in your mind of how you would like your space to function. Break down tasks into smaller ones, and work in 20 minute intervals, so it’s not too overwhelming. Group like with like items to create spaces which make sense and are easy to work with. My motto –‘If you see it, sort it; think it, do it’.
Always create a ‘to do’ list. By jotting it down, you’re removing it from your brain and cutting back on mental clutter, and you can easily review and prioritise the most important tasks. Each time you cross something off, it’s both gratifying and empowering. Always prioritise your ‘to do’ list so the most important tasks get done first.
