Today a need of a
modern fully accomplished veterinary centre out of middle of the Colombo has become stronger than any other period. At the very beginning I felt this due to my experience.....
“One of my dogs was ill and our veterinarian treated him as usual. But he kept getting well and sick again and again. Vet said it is just the normal fiver and nothing to worry about. Since the situation got bad we took him to another veterinary center in Colombo 02 which is far away from my place. According to the veterinarians my dog was infected from Parvovirus and they couldn’t save him. They said if I have come earlier they might have save the animal.
Throughout this incident I
realized the need of a veterinary centre near around our area with all the modern facilities for pets. This is the main inspiration for my project.
For mutual benefits Humans and domestic animals are competing for the same prey, but there are advantages for both in teaming up. The partnership is natural. So,undoubtedly, is how it first comes about. People love to nurture any abandoned young animal, and most of animal cubs like wolf are well adapted to learn the rules of a hierarchical human society (in which its place will be low). From this partnership all dogs derive. Unbelievable though it seems, every single breed of dog is descended from wolves. Breed in captivity For a species to become domesticated, it must be willing to breed in man’s company. ‘Breed in captivity’, the more usual phrase, implies a simple case of exploitation. The reality is more complex. In terms of survival, those species which have developed a relationship with man have far outstripped their wild cousins. The most numerous large mammals, apart from humans, are cows, sheep, goats, pigs, horses and dogs. Domestic cats easily outnumber their wild equivalents, as do chickens and turkeys. The domestication of animals is based on an ancient contract, with benefits on both sides, between man and the ancestors of the breeds familiar to us today.

Throughout the brief historical background about the
humans and domestic animals it is understood that mutual benefit is the main reason them to have a strong bond in between. Those mutual benefits are mainly hunting and protecting. But today it has become more complicated due to the social revolutions. During past decade the concept of “family” has changed and the number of members has become a low value due to below reasons. • Children leaving their families for higher education • Living separately after the marriage • Going abroad for work • Both parents are working Therefore now families are really small and most of the time they don’t have time to spend with each other’s. Apparently this has lead 90% of people to have a pet. Today a pet fulfils a character of a friend, sibling, cousins and sometimes parental characters too. Now pets have become a very important part of a family and need of a veterinary centre has become stronger than any other days.
From Moratuwa to Bambalapitiya there are several
places that you can buy pets and People spend a lot of money (a Rottweiler is SLR 35,000-40,000) To have a pet. But why? According to the research that I did around my neighbourhood reasons to have a pet can be, • To get rid of loneliness • To have a loyal friend • Share and get love and caring • To have a protection So it is very clear a pet is an important member of the family today. But these animals get infect from several diseases time to time. Most of the people in our country are not well aware of these problems. Since pets can’t communicate and convey properly, most of the time it is hard to diagnose the illness. Even though there are vet care centres everywhere but most of these don’t have proper facilities such as diagnostic procedures, Blood analysing, quality medicines, friendly atmosphere, emergency services. That’s why people need a proper place to treat their pets; a place which they can go with confidence........
End user demography According to the previous explanation my end user demography will be people who are having pets; people who care and love them. Since my site location is in Rathmalana, end user demography will be the people who lives in Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council. According to the Urban Development Authority reports, 63.75% of the land is used for residential purposes. From this 70% of people are having at least one pet.
Precedent study analysis Kursaal Auditorium and Congress Center Rafael Moneo. San Sebastian, Spain 1989-1999 Structural Engineers: Javier Manterola, Hugo Corres and Associates, Jesus Jimenez Canas This precinct was selected as a precedent study for its successful approach of the cubic structure and facade system. STRUCTUTRE The Kursaal Centre has a double glass skin made of concave translucent glass tiles on the exterior and strips of translucent glass on the interior. These glass tiles and strips are supported entirely by an independent steel structure. The thick facade is separated from the interior auditorium boxes which are made of concrete, clad in timber panels. The structure of the auditorium boxes is completely independent of the building’s facade. Facade System The steel system which supports the facade is made of box columns and angled box beams, welded at the joints. The module for the spacing of the bays is six meters, large enough to allow tempered air circulation and service access. The concave glass tiles are attached to the steel structure using struts and two steel mounting clips. The corner joints of the glass, which are bevelled to meet cleanly, are repeated or simply inverted at every corner to reduce the need for custom details. The horizontal joints between the glass have a custom V-shaped channel made of cast aluminium.

Animal Surgical Clinic of Seattle Environmental harmony
Animal Surgical Clinic of Seattle in Shoreline, Wash., employs 7 full-time and 2 part-time associate and 17 full- time and 1 part-time team members. The practice is 100 percent small animal; specially and referral only.
The building size is 10,617 square feet. Featuring an elemental design that calls on earth, air, and fire, Animal Surgical Clinic of Seattle embraces Mother Nature and all of her wonders. Fast-forward to 2012, and the formerly windowless existing structure on the property has been transformed into a lightfilled and earthy specialty and emergency hospital that earned the practice a Merit Award in the 2012 Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Competition. Drs. Russ Patterson and Allen Johnson faced many zoning issues during the planning and building process. Zoning rules required them to redo and move sidewalks and regulated the plantings and landscaping. And a key battle occurred over which direction the practice’s entrance would face. Zoning laws required businesses to face the main street. The doctors argued that their often sick and stressed patients needed a quiet way to enter the hospital. They won the fight and put the entrance close to the parking lot, near the residential street. Their monument sign landed facing the main street. As an added bonus, this approach saved some existing trees. As a surgical practice, a primary goal for the new facility was to create more operating rooms and surgical space than the previous facility offered in downtown Seattle.

As I mentioned at the very beginning, today pets have become an essential part of a family. Their loyalty, love, caring and protection towards the family is incomparable . According to the research FAMILISM is the initial concept which conveys my idea .
Familism refers to a model of social organization, based on the prevalence of the family group and its well-being placed against the interests and necessities of each one of its members. It is part of a traditional view of society that highlights loyalty, trust, and cooperative attitudes within the family group. Although its origin is in the traditional family institution, it is also used as an analogy for characterizing different forms of organization and social relationships—those that are guided by group interest and well-being instead of the general interest and well-being.
