TRULY LOVE DAY ACTIVITIES By Basma Amer

Salem Express

Salem Express

Safaga, located on the shore of the Red Sea between Hurghada and Luxor, has a marvelous view of the sea with its brilliant blues and glittering greens. It is an ideal spot to slip back into adventure mode and experience an actionpacked expedition. Go fishing or snorkeling and diving to explore different aspects of the Red Sea and capture this treasure chest’s most ornamental creatures. The waters of Safaga host an abundant number of precious reefs and a few wrecks as well. The reefs house a collection of Mother Nature’s art beneath the surface of the sea at Abu Kafan, Arba Erg, Arpha Bank, Fellow Rocks, Gabul Kibeer, Gabul Shiwayya, Middle Reef, Panorama Reef, Ras Abu Soma, Ras Umm Hesiwa, Sha’ab Bagul, Sha’ab Claude, Sha’ab

Saiman, Sha’ab Sheer, Sharm El Naga, The Tobias, Tubya Hamra, Tubya Kibeer, Tubya Shiwayya and Umm Hal Hal. Also marking a part of Safaga’s history are four wrecks that are suitable for divers of different proficiencies. The first site is the 2005 Al Kahfain ferry wreck which was caused by a fire on board and is located at Sha’ab Sheer. The second wreck, the M.V. Hatour, was a liveaboard, which sank in 2001 after crashing into the reef of Abu Kafan. The third wreck is El Arish El Tor, which was a Norwegian ferry that went down in 2002. The final wreck, Salem Express, is the most notable of all four wrecks. The roll-on roll-off ferry claimed close to 500 lives returning from their pilgrimage to Mecca. The wreck is located at Hyndman Reef and Cont.

continues to feature the belongings of its passengers, such as prayer rugs, stereos, luggage and bicycles. The water world in Safaga is truly a remarkable sight. Some companies offer boat rides to nearby islands where you can do various water sports. One such island is Tobia Island which has magnificent views and plenty of activities to do, including taking pictures and relaxing after windsurfing. The wind in Safaga makes it an ideal place to practise your kite surfing and windsurfing skills. Moreover, you and your family have the opportunity to learn these water sports by taking a course that is suitable for your level. Available courses cover beginner to advanced level surfers. If you feel like a change of activity, make your

way to Mons Claudianus, an ancient Roman penal colony where prisoners mined for quartz diorite and granite to be used for different structures throughout the Roman Empire. The ruins are an archeological site that features broken columns, a garrison, a quarry site, a horse stable and a water container. In addition to this archeological site and the variety of dive sites is Safaga’s therapeutic sand. The natural elements found in Safaga’s black sand make it a wonderful place to seek treatment for rheumatism, psoriasis, chronic stress, fatigue and stress-related symptoms. It is no wonder this is a magical place worth visiting! It encompasses all the necessary factors needed to make your holiday an amazing experience. 15
