From Reddit & Quora: 12 Questions(Hotly Debated) About NMN(3)
Should I take other supplements with NMN together? If you’re a good observer, you must have noticed that Dr. David Sinclair take anti-aging supplements every day, not only NMN powder, also have others, such as resveratrol, metformin, and aspirin… Is that must to take other supplements with NMN powder together? Why? Base on the studies from Dr. David Sinclair and his team, taking NMN powder other supplements is very helpful for anti-aging. For now,I will share 3 supplements when we take NMN powder. 2 supplements are resveratrol and pterostilbene. Resveratrol is a stilbenoid found in the skin of grapes in low amounts. Studies have shown that resveratrol can reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and neurodegeneration.David Sinclair believes that resveratrol works synergistically with NMN. Resveratrol is needed to activate the sirtuin genes (which protect our DNA and epigenome), while NMN is needed to fuel the sirtuins. However, resveratrol is difficult to be absorbed by the gut, and the little resveratrol that ends up in the body is broken down very quickly. Therefore, pterostilbene is a better alternative. Pterostilbene is a molecule that looks very similar to resveratrol, but it is absorbed considerably better and is far more stable in the human body.

Another supplement is trimethylglycine(TMG),when we take NMN powder for long time, NMN depletes methyl groups within our bodies,as a precaution, it’s thought to be important to take TMG (an amino acid known as betaine) to donate methyl groups. When NMN is converted into NAD+, nicotinamide (NAM) is formed. High levels of nicotinamide are not good for our bodies and in order for our bodies to get rid of nicotinamide it needs to be methylated into N-methyl nicotinamide that is excreted in our urine. In order to methylate NAM, the body theoretically draws from our reserves of methyl groups. The theory is that the more NMN you take, the more methyl groups are required to get rid of the NAM. In the podcast below with Dr. Mercola, Dr. David Sinclair mentioned that he takes TMG as a precaution to prevent this from happening,we can learn more information from this video of Dr. David Sinclair: Although most of supplements are reportedly safe and beneficial to our bodies, it’s always best to check with your healthcare practitioner before starting to take it, especially if you have a health condition and are using chronic medication. Always follow the recommended dosage.
Is NMN Good Helpful For Against COVID-2019? The body’s initial response to an infectious threat like COVID-19, known as innate immune activation, depends on NAD+. Viral infections deplete NAD+ because infections trigger a cellular defense cascade that results in increased NAD+ degradation to prevent the virus from taking over the cell. Significantly reduced NAD+ concentration has been shown in COVID-19 and some researchers think this is a major factor in why this virus is so deadly, especially to those with depleted NAD+ storage. Dr. Zhavoronkov proposed that Testing low-dose rapamycin individually or in combination with metformin, and NAD+ boosters such as nicotinamide riboside (NR), or nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) may help protect the elderly from gerolavic infection today and may also enhance economic recovery when the global pandemic is over.

In addition, studies have shown that NAD+ can trigger an immune system response to protect the body from a coronavirus such as COVID-19. A review published March 23, 2020 by Isfahan University of Medical Sciences provides evidence that low NAD+ levels could be tied to higher severity and morbidity rates in the COVID-19 pandemic. According to clinical trials, NMN supplements boost NAD+ to youthful levels. Making the NAD+ molecule available to SIRT1 genes enhances their ability to protect the body against disease and deterioration. As more studies are being conducted, researchers are finding that NAD+ also has an important role to play in regulating our immune systems. They’ve also found that macrophages (a type of white blood cell that eats potential invaders such as bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses) use a pathway synthesized by NAD+ to ensure cell survival and control inflammation. All in all, studies are indicating that NMN and the resulting increased levels of NAD+ can play an important role in helping our bodies fight off infections and bacteria. In other words, it has the potential to boost our immune systems and help them during times of infection and illness. A case study was published on April 22, 2020 by Dr. Robert Huizenga MD at University of Chicago describing his response to a 55-year old woman who had been hospitalized with COVID-19 on March 16. Her condition continued to worsen and on day 13 she had obvious pneumonia, cytokine storm and extremely elevated hsCRP, a non-specific inflammatory marker. Dr. Huizenga treated her with oral NMN, betaine and NaCl (known to reduce IL-6) and continued the zinc treatment she had been given prior. By day 15, her fever was alleviated and symptoms improved significantly. By day 17 she was discharged to go home. By day 23, she was asymptomatic. Two other elderly patients were treated with the same “cocktail” and both experienced similar recoveries.
NMN VS. NR: Which One Is Better? Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and nicotinamide riboside (NR) are biosynthetic precursors to an essential molecule for metabolism–nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+).The molecular structures of NMN and NR are roughly the same, except NMN has an added phosphate group. This added phosphate group 3

makes NMN a larger molecule than NR. NR (nicotinamide riboside) and NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) supplements are both often touted as two of the most promising supplements to slow down aging.Taking NR and NMN powder increases NAD+ levels. Higher NAD+ levels protect our epigenome and DNA. Increasing NAD+ levels leads to many health benefits on various organs, such as the brain, cardiovascular system, and muscles. Given that NR and NMN increase NAD+ levels, they are often called NAD boosters. Many studies show that NR and NMN can improve various aging hallmarks, like a dysregulated epigenome, DNA damage, protein accumulation, inflammaging (aging-related inflammation) and various other aging mechanisms. But the big question of course is: which one is better, NMN powder or NR powder? Currently, there are no studies comparing NMN and NR head-on regarding health effects and lifespan effects. Let us compare NMN and NR:
