THESIS REVIVING FORGOTTEN ARCHITECTURE: A VALUE BASED APPROACH Site-Regal Cinema,Delhi Every city has its valuable, iconic buildings, often located in prime locations and become landmarks. They have charm and glory which attracts people. They contribute to the city's identity, uniqueness, and a sense of place . These structures are reminders of the city's culture and are the memories associated with people. However, often they lose their charm and glory over time due to urban sprawl, new technological advancement, political conflict, in crux, to development. Such buildings begin to lose value and become lost in the chaos of their own city, forgotten, and abandoned. This thesis aims to understand the values such iconic buildings hold, which connect them to their users and using these learnings to develop a strategical framework with the value-based approach to revive forgotten Architecture. 1

The proposed interventions on the building’s 6 layers, i.e. the Site, Structure, Skin, Space Planning, Services, and Stuff, are derived from the Value-Based Strategies, which include understanding the existing site conditions, responding to the needs of different users, and thus designing a set of free flowing programmes. To engage users with the building that promotes its social value, and revitalize building's historical and aesthetic value. By creating multiple levels of interiority through Adaptive Reuse, which can preserve stories and memories associated with the building while preparing it for the future. 4

URBAN SPACE CONSERVATORY : SUSTAINABLE INTERIORS STUDIO II-M.ARCH(IA) SITE-Metroworld Mall Huda Market, Sec 56, Gurugram Haryana(Defunct Mall) The site, a defunct mall in the middle of a busy market area. The studio aimed to develop a sustainable design strategy to engage users with the building by taking into account five contexts, ie. User Groups, Building Envelope, Physical Environment Around the Built, Socio-Economic Environment, Materials and Practices, while keeping ecology, economy, and equity in mind. The goal was to propose various levels of design intervention in order to generate public interiority for users and bring built back into existence. 5

The site was in residential sector 56, approach taken was to cater to users within the sector while also looking for users outside the sector who directly serve the sector. The primary users, the Banjara Market community, their setup were about to be demolished by the government due to illegal construction, which meant that spatial ecology that had developed over time between the Banjara community and various users could be lost. The strategy was to understand Banjara community's needs ,their spatial arrangement ,primary and secondary users relationship with the site and sector before attempting to relocate it to the defunct building, taking into account the ecology, economy, and equity, as well as the impact on the 6 S's that would aid in the conservation and sustenance of the spatial ecology. 6

Multiple interventions were proposed, including the use of brick jaali on the building envelope for proper air ventilation and play of light in the interiors, as well as the design of public spaces to engage users and create a free flow of movement from the outside to the inside of the building. Use sustainable materials and construction practices to reduce the building's environmental impact. Training School Section

INTERIOR URBANISM Studio IV: M.Arch (IA) Interior Urbanism, focus on " Blurring the boundaries" or "Merging the boundaries" of Interior ( conceived as Private realm) and Urban ( Conceived as Public Realm). The subject acts as a threshold, allowing us to explore the nature of space and its different dimensions that form a relationship with its inhabitants. This relationship can both be physical as well psychological. , IU can be understood as an attempt made to understand the interplay and impact of the architectural elements that contribute to generate the essence in a space. 9

DESIGN

COMMERCIAL PROJECT-NARNISH DESIGN STUDIOS It was a challenge to design an Interior Designing Studio that showcased as much material as possible while remaining harmonious. Every nook and cranny of the studio was designed with the goal of making the most of the linear space. There was freedom to experiment with various materials, finishes, and techniques in order to make the studio the live showcase of every detail possible to show and engage clients. 11
