Catch the ferry from downtown Auckland to Half Moon Bay, then stroll along the marina and grab a bite to eat at Grangers. Arguably one of the best restaurants in East Auckland.
UXBRIDGE Arts & Culture, Howick
Enjoy an injection of culture at Uxbridge. Home to an art gallery, classes and workshops for art, language, ceramics and bone carving, as well as live theatre, music and dance. There’s also Uxbridge Café for pre-theatre food.
The Whitford Bird Garden
Every visitor is personally escorted around the estate on a 90-minute guided walk and in winter, bird plumage is thick and full. Open by appointment only.
Howick Historical Village
A living museum with more than 30 original colonial buildings. Meander the recreated village and look out for ‘live days’ when locals don full costume.
Cycle the Pakuranga Rotary Path
A smooth, flat ride that skirts the edges of the Tāmaki Estuary and Wakaaranga Creek, passing boats, beach and mangrove. The route is 18km and mostly paved. Allow two hours.
Shop Clevedon Markets
Peruse Clevedon Village Market for arts and crafts; Clevedon Sunday Farmers’ Market for local produce and stock up on merino wool and mānuka honey at Clevedon Woolshed.
Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple
Featuring impressive Asian architecture, a large Buddha statue, a two-tonne wishing bell, courtyard and vegetarian café. Also on site is Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery and a shop.
