Clevedon Scenic Reserve (Pā Nīkau)

With a variety of walks to keep your leg poles happy, explore 100ha of native bush, the disused Thorps Quarry (with a small waterfall), elevated 360-degree vistas and multiple spots to sit with a picnic in summer or a flask of hot tea if it’s winter.

Puriri Hills Winery

Home to boutique blended reds. Wine tasting exudes exclusivity; available Saturday and Sunday from 1-4pm and limited to six people. Booking is essential.

Clevedon Sunday Farmers’ Market is brimming with vendors selling produce and sharing cooking tips, while Clevedon Village Market is your go-to for arts and crafts.

Duder Regional Park

Where great green hills tumble into golden beaches. Work up a sweat on one of several walks (red and yellow trails are moderate, whereas blue trails are more intense). Say hello to the sheep and cool off in the sea. There’s nothing commercial for miles, so pack plenty of water, sun cream and provisions.

Tāpapakanga Regional Park

An attractive coastal farm park with beautiful walking tracks, dripping in Māori and European history. The beach (and beachfronting campsite) is equipped with barbecues and toilet blocks. Kayakers love it here, too.

Hūnua Ranges Regional Park

Explore the largest area of native forest in Auckland. There are dozens of walks, three bike tracks, beautiful Hūnua Falls and decent fishing at Mangatangi and Mangatāwhiri reservoirs. A 15-minute drive from Clevedon.

Vin Alto

You’ll feel transported to the land of the olive groves and Mediterranean sunsets as you graze and sip the evening away at this incredible winery.

AYRLIES GARDEN Sweeping lawns and informal but detailed plantings by ponds and waterways make up this quintessential Kiwi garden in Whitford. Also check out the wetlands – 35 acres has become home to much-loved visiting wildlife.
