Hikes range from 40 minutes to four hours, delving into thick forest. Many of the trails are shared with mountain bikers.

Westbrook Winery

The wine tastings, views and food (and cheese!) are all to die for. The large, immaculate grounds feature a pond flanked by outdoor seating and a giant chess set, and you certainly won’t regret nibbling on a wine-matched platter, alfresco-style.

Hallertau Brewery

Pop in for Sunday lunch with the kids and your furry pal. Go home armed with your favourite beer in a reusable one-litre bottle that you can fill up on your next visit.

The Riverhead

This is New Zealand’s oldest riverside tavern. For something extra special, arrive by ferry from downtown Auckland.

Pick-Your-Own Raspberries

Most berry farms are roughly 30 minutes by car from central Auckland and open for pick-your-own between December and February. Check out the family-friendly Zaberri in Riverhead.
