Omaha

This much-loved beachside town boasts a beautiful white-sand surf beach.

Mahurangi Regional Park

Venture into native forest where long walks dip into idyllic bays and only chirping birds disrupt the peace.

Lovely Leigh

From fossicking in the crystal clear rock pools to feasting on freshly caught snapper, the small coastal village of Leigh is the perfect destination for visitors who love to be beside the seaside. Explore the first marine reserve in New Zealand, Goat Island. As well as diving and snorkelling among the colourful marine life, you can paddle a kayak or a see-through ‘Clearyak’, or ride the Glass Bottom Boat.

For additional marine life, fascinating snorkelling can also be enjoyed in the mangroves at nearby Whangateau seafront reserve.

Peaceful Pakiri Beach

Take a horse trek along the long white-sand beach at Pakiri – make it an hour, half a day or a full-day ride to really explore. If horse riding’s not your thing, bring your surfboard and catch a few waves, or take a stroll along the water’s edge and watch the horizon for whales and dolphins often spotted swimming in the area. The beach is unpatrolled so make sure you’re not surfing or swimming alone.
