Yachine Xie and Voonbin Shine Leow’s collaboration is inspired byArt Deco’s geometric motifs. Meanwhile, the 1950s inspire Daniel Kim’s collection which reinterprets the elegance of Parisian fashion from that era
Tianyu Candice Ji draws from Japan’s history of earthquakes and her own memories of having school assemblies where they practiced how to find safe shelter during a natural disaster. Imagery of the aftermath of earthquakes informed the silhouettes of Ji’s collection. Another disaster – the sinking of theTitanic – has been given a fictional spin by Jaclyn Shahan who takes elements of the fashions worn by the passengers and blends them with modern silhouettes made with heavy starch which creates the illusion that the pieces are floating in water.
Time spent in quarantine influencedAllyn Mae Fox’collection which sees the designer using CLO3D software to translate her designs from 2D to 3D shapes The Black Lives Matter movement and the protests that happened throughoutAmerica and the world during lockdown have inspired Rashida Birdlong whose collection features bold visuals that nod to the protest banners and their powerful messages.
Cory Lin's monochromatic menswear collection is inspired by Korean band HYUKOH's album 24: How to FindTrue Love and Happiness, while Domingo Cholula looks to Dutch and Flemish paintings.
