About ABC Awards Established in 1998, ABC Awards (ABC) is the result of combining more than 180 years of regional examination and assessment practices into one national Awarding Organisation. As a registered charity we are continuing the tradition of our founding organisations who were established by the sector to deliver useful and practical qualifications whilst offering exceptional support and ABC is proud to still be “owned” by the sector and working for the sector. ABC offers an outstanding range of vocational qualifications which reflect the skills that employers and centres look for in learners and employees. At ABC, we recognise the importance of continuing to offer not only a wide range and breadth of qualifications, but just as significantly, excellent customer support.
An Experienced and Knowledgeable Team Our friendly and responsive approach to customers means all our centres have access to a dedicated Qualification Administrator as well as unlimited access to a Business Development Manager who can answer any queries or concerns you might have. Our Moderators are all subject specialists and are chosen by us for their experience, knowledge and ability to support centres to deliver ABC’s qualifications successfully.
A Wide Range of Qualifications Our portfolio of more than 600 Ofqual regulated qualifications covers 14 sectors with qualifications to suit all ages and abilities. We have designed all ABC qualifications with the support of relevant stakeholders to make sure that they meet the needs of the current industries across the UK. This means that the qualifications are designed to give learners the skills needed to find employment, progress within education or enhance their skills in their current job role. We have more than 1200 centres with many tens of thousands of certificates being issued each year.

Teaching and Learning Support Qualifications ABC Awards has new qualifications for assessors, internal verifiers and external verifiers. They reflect current practice in learning and development and describe what a person needs to do, know and understand in order to carry out their learning and development role in a consistent and competent way. All those assessing and assuring the quality of assessment will use the standards to inform their practice and identify professional development needs. All of the qualifications within the Teaching and Learning Support sector were developed with Lifelong Learning UK following a review of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for learning and development. They are all accredited on the QCF.

What qualifications are on offer and who are they aimed at? All of our Teaching and Learning Support qualifications are available to learners aged 19+. They are appropriate for staff assessing competence based qualifications as well as non-NVQ or noncompetence based qualifications.

What prior knowledge is needed? Entry requirements vary depending on what level of qualification a learner wishes to study within the Teaching and Learning sector. However, generally you will need to display competency by having either a working knowledge in the subject you wish to assess or a keen interest in the subject area.

Assessing These qualifications have been developed for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of assessment without any requirement to practise as assessors. They are also for those who wish to assess occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding. External Quality Assurance
Internal Quality Assurance
The Level 4 Award consisting of one unit is for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of external quality assurance without any requirement to practise. The two unit Award is for those who wish to maintain the quality of assessment from outside an organisation or assessment centre, usually on behalf of an awarding organisation. The Level 4 Certificate is intended for those who lead a team of external quality assurance staff.
The Level 4 Award consists of one unit for those who wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of internal quality assurance without any requirement to practise, whilst the two unit Award is for those who want to maintain the quality of assessment from within an organisation or assessment centre. The Level 4 Certificate is intended for those who lead a team of internal quality assurance staff.

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector The ABC Awards’ qualifications in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector are introductory teaching qualifications which prepare learners for teaching in a wide range of contexts and do not require learners to be teaching. The qualifications have been developed to meet a requirement of the Further Education Teachers’ Qualifications (England) Regulations 2007 and related contractual requirements introduced by the funding agency at the same time. Achieving the qualifications will provide sufficient evidence that an individual has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to teach beyond an initial year in the FE sector. Funding ABC Awards has endeavoured to provide signposting to funding eligibility but centres are advised that these are guides only and clarification from funding providers should be sought.
