Cramlington Town Council has announced their plans for a major development of Alexandra Park. This follows the recent transfer to the Town Council from Northumberland County Council of the area that contains the skate park, a seating area and a dilapidated outdoor gym.

As Councillor Helen Morris, Chair of the Community and Youth Committee explains: “We have long been aware of the poor state of facilities in that area of Alexandra Park but until now we have not been in a position to improve them.”

“I can now reveal that we are investing over £175,000 at the site. This includes a fantastic adventure play area which will include a zip wire and a range of latest equipment including a spinning carousel, space nets, climbing challenges and a fitness trail.”

“We held a consultation to ask youngsters what they wanted, we listened and here we are with plans drawn up for a fantastic activity area. We have already been working on a new dog park which is nearing completion.”

“This fenced area will provide an area to train, walk and socialise pets and contain new seating and bins. The creation of this area follows a public consultation which demonstrated a clear support for such an area and we liaised with the County Council’s animal welfare team and local charity Dog’s First to identify requirements.”

“These latest developments follow on from the creation of the £100,000 Annie’s Green play area for younger children and will enable us to achieve our vision for the area to become a destination for families, with something for everyone.”

The area will be maintained by Cramlington Town Council who will be responsible for the grass cutting, litter picking and maintenance of the assets.
