Motivation Litter “A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are built for” Dear AMSA family, I am Abdalla Ahmed Gharib, a 5th year student, and it’s my honor to present to you my candidature for the post of AMSA President for the term 2015-2016 in the upcoming elections... This letter will never be enough for explaining my motivation. It has been two years now since I started working in AMSA and I can proudly say that working in such association has offered me an exceptional experience from the activities, projects I participated in, the people I meet, and the endless qualifications I had through working in the organization for these long years... I remember two years ago when I was an associate member, I was an active member and rapidly gained more experiences in SCOME and integrated more in the National Level in my 2nd month which made me apply for my 1st Post as AMSA local coordinator in 2013-2014 term after 2 months I applied for the national coordinator position and luckily I was accepted. I am now the national coordinator for the project nationally for the second term. On the local level I was CCC for the whole past year and I am an HR member for SCOME and one of the task force that updated AMSA bylaws this term. I firmly have the belief that I could be another addition to this great association and I will truly dedicate myself to present all the effort I Can to Push the association forwards within its Track. At the same time, I will devote to maintaining the reputation of AMSA and Do my best to make any required improvements for the sake of the Association Benefit and welfare. Nevertheless, I am quite aware that we can’t push AMSA forward to higher positions except by working in a cooperating team to achieve our success.. AMSA is a strong organization & is making constant progress, thanks to all people who have worked tirelessly to create in a few years a success story. And I would be grateful if you give me this chance to serve our association. I will continue on the existing successful path and I will cooperate with all Team of Officials to make the best for the welfare of AMSA, For Sure; together we can do marvelous Work.

Summer training course for basic scientific research activity (from 12 august /12septamper) the course was organized by the hospital research department under supervision of Dr/Ahmed Samir Head of Research Education Unit in the department. I learned these subjects: Evidence based Medicine, Research ethics, ,Manuscript Writing ,Statistics, SEER Workshop , Critical Appraisal , Cancer Registry and using some programs like Mendeley , Dropbox , Viper and some web sites as Pub Med , Cochrane Library , Google Scholar , Google Drive and uptodate.

Preliminary Plan of Action Leading AMSA-Azhar Cairo and strengthening its structure: 1- AMSA Constitution and Bylaws Getting the Chance to serve as CCC for the whole passed term and IFMSA-Egypt national coordinator for two terms, I believe that I have enough experience that will guarantee the Bylaws are implemented in the Proper way and I will work effectively to Incorporate the Constitution of IFMSAEgypt in AMSA Constitution & Bylaws to avoid any Conflicts/ tricky points.

As I will be attending IFMSA-Egypt National GA meetings, so I will be directly following the Bylaws in the presidents’ sessions and the plenaries together with ensuring following the bylaws in the Standing committees sessions.

2- Financial Administration Will work hard to make sure of the proper handling of the financial support for AMSA activities to meet the mission and vision of our association. I will work closely with the treasurer and the Standing Committee Officers to guarantee a wise management of our finances without any substantial defect in the quality of our activities. I will make sure that our budget shall reflect on the span of our activities and give a true image of the activities we execute in the federation.

3- AMSA Mission and vision Cooperatively and closely working with IFMSA-Egypt Team of Officials as well as LCs to achieve IFMSA-Egypt mission. Our mission is “medical students unite for global health and are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to take on health leadership roles locally and globally”. Unfortunately, this vision & mission had been wrongly promoted that we are a charity organization more than a scientific one. I will work on empowering the incorporation of the scientific aspect in most of our activities. Enhancing the role of our currently established research team and its merge with the projects support division and working to make sure our frequently designed surveys and projects are following proper scientific standards.


4- AMSA Team of Officials I believe that any success is based on team Commitment, It’s not matter of individual success, but there are many factors Control the process of such success, accordingly I will be eagerly working on the following points in order to achieve the intended aims: A-

Communication:

Through my involvement in IFMSA-Egypt, I could realize that we are currently facing some problems regarding communication within the team, and I believe that keeping frequent and stable means of communication, in addition to a well-defined code of conduct, is the way for reaching an optimum level of team dynamics, Hence I will work to overcome this through; 

Keeping a Close Communication with the rest of the team of Officials.

Ensure that the majority of the team is integrated in the work.

Sending regular & transparent updates on the pressing updates on both local and National Level.

B-

Support and Motivation

Motivating and supervising the work within the Team of Officials through supporting any of them with any strategic advice.

Doing my Best to keep the team spirit through frequent meetings, outings and conjoint activities and projects.

Involving the rest of the team of officials in the managerial work of the association as much as possible to create a new well experienced cadre of members that can steer the wheel of the federation for the coming years..

I guarantee my availability anytime to have a meeting with any official either through phone calls or face to face whenever needed.

C-

TO Meetings

Since I will be leading the team guided by AMSA Bylaws regarding the regulation of TO meetings, also we can hold any extraordinary TO meetings according to the ongoing situation during the term in case of the need.

Since I believe that the TO meetings are held to reach a positive outcome for the welfare of our federation, I will be encouraging and motivating AMSA members to attend TO meetings to be more involved in the structure we are belonging to.


D-

Evaluation and Monitoring

"A truthful Evaluation Of yourself gives feedbacks for growth and success”

 Will try to establish well developed regular evaluation and monitoring system will give us

the chance to check the progress in our work and how to make it cope with our missions. I will work with the sec.gen and the VP team to survey the opinion of the members regularly on the performance of the officers to better involve all AMSA officers in forming the strategies of work.

Archiving and Handover  Work on having a well-developed manual system for Archiving and handover will

overcome the time gaping we waste during transition from a board and to ensure a smooth continuity for the work.

Internal Management 

AMSA members

Being a Full capacity LC Representing AL-Azhar university medical schools in Cairo, we should aim for reaching all of the faculty students, so I will be working closely with the EB, Standing Committees and the Supporting divisions as well to support the Candidates and the new comers and to have a good relation with the faculty officials.

In Collaboration with AMSA VPCB & Training Director, will be managing to create Workshops for the new members and increasing members awareness about AMSA, IFMSA-Egypt and IFMSA Structure.

Capacity Building: AMSA Man Power / Human resources is the key for a better association we are dreaming about and as the quality of Our associations’ outcome depends mainly on how skilled of its members so we have to build a skilled, qualified, representative members.


So I am planning to give the capacity building enough time and effort to guarantee a second and third line of experienced officers in all Committees for a sustainable and long term strategy plan. In order to overcome the transition that happens sometimes when it comes from a generation to another. 

General Assemblies Believing that AMSA & IFMSA-Egypt National GA are the cornerstone of the organization that help in recruiting more members and getting them involved within our structure, we as TO will work to enhance our members experience in all aspects.

AMSA 4th annual conference I was the head of scientific committee for the conference and it was a great experience with an amazing scientific team, with the EB and the fundraising director we will try to solve the fundraising problems that faced the conference fundraising team.

AMSA summer school In my opinion Summer school is biggest event AMSA can host and organize, so I will work with the exchange officers in order to host event that is remarkable and unique so that we can host it annually, we will be working together closely to ensure the best quality of this event and having enough time to invite famous speakers and trainers to the Opening and closing ceremony as well as theme, and indeed this event will be a major source for fund.

Super village project It is a done deal with one of charity NGO that will support us for working in a village that they supervise, it’s a combined mega project for 3 of our committee, SCORA, SCOPH and SCORP.

AMSA Magazine Along with the EB we will work on its release on time.

Research AMSA will take a powerful steps in research way this year it’s a global requirement and we should keep up and become a pioneer in this field.

Support Divisions As the Support divisions are the cornerstone for the association and for an evolving one like AMSA, It’s a must to come to your attention that some activates or tasks shall be


delegated to the well experienced members especially when it comes to the support divisions, it hold a great part of our representation and communication so it should be given the attention it deserve.

External Affairs A- Partners I believe that this is the time now to have a best use of our connections to have a good external relations and partners 

first we have to identify and collect the partners : 

Governmental organization, ministries and institute

NGO

UN agencies & WHO

Secondly we have to agree that since dealing with partners differ every year according to the person in charge, So we have to overcome this through reaching a Long term agreement with these partners and this can’t be achieved without having a database for externals with the person in charge with a second generation for contacting to this partners.

I will be working closely with the EB, TO and administrative board to have AMSA Profile that include information regarding our board, activates, and accomplishment.

The Last point and one of the most important one is the marketing and branding as I believe that this is a weak point that we are lacking now, So I will be working closely with the VPE for a better management of 

Website: updating website with our activates.

Facebook and twitter: believing from the social media is from the easiest way of communication so making sure that all news and pictures of any AMSA meeting or activates will be uploaded on Facebook so that we can link our activities, sessions and members during and in between our GAs.

YouTube Channel: better management of the YouTube channel.


B- International Representation AMSA is a part of IFMSA-Egypt which is currently a Full Member of IFMSA, active in all its Standing Committees, represented in its team of officials and having a great image in regards to its participation, activities and values. This year I’m planning to support any member who want to participate in the international level to be more involved in IFMSA’s formulation of Reform, policies, projects and events.
