MISK ART - Pavilion Competition

About design

Manifesto Journey exploring the Arch, a key element in our identity and tradition. Using the geometry of an arch and all its manifestation to spawn new spatial experiences.

Pavilion, light temporary or semipermanent structure used in gardens and pleasure grounds. Although there are many variations, the basic type is a large, light, airy garden room with a high-peaked roof resembling a canopy. Used to test and experiment new design and construction techniques, It has to be unusual space and experience

Reference Photos Islamic arches and domes from different eras and styles.

Site analysis Considering entries, sensory, environmental situation, the design responses to all those factors to meet the ideal solution for the pavilion design

Philosophy As a designed space, we found a strong potential in the arch as an ideal elements to experiment with. Different interpretation of an arch shaping different units : Sphere, Cylindric dome, Extruded arch

Derived Elements

Technique Mass A

Experience

Cylinder units boolean-ed from a solid mass, creating unexpected moments and new spatial experience

Cluster of different sizes/levels of intersecting domes creating unconventional moments. The street view of mass A, gives a conventional impression. While, the inner volume of the mass displays the extreme of the used technique to add a surprising journey.

Technique Mass B

Experience

Extruded arches shifted to different angles and directions, Boolean-ed from mass B creating visual illusion.

Extruded arches boolean-ed from mass B to create distorted arches from an elevation point of view. Intersected in different directions, sizes and levels forming unconventional vault cover. That illusion will make a special journey for viewers to explore the right angles for each distortion.

Design Technique Vacuum effect The technique in this project is dealing with the main functions as large masses (Academic ,Housing and services ) and try to connect theme with an outer shell. Vacuum effect is applies to the shell to take the shape of the main masses.

The Integration

he value of this technique Mega TGives an unclear exterior vision for the viewers to let them experiment the masses once the visitor inters Section the building. Also creates different atrium effect by allowing natural light to inter and reflects on the masses.

This stage is about integrating the two extremes: The ideal functional program of the collage and the design technique with its complicated form. After modifications and developments, this form achieved the best solutions for both.

ONE DAY SURGERY Center 3rd year first semester First prize winner among KFUPM students By | The Saudi Umran Society

About design One day surgery clinic ?

The concern in designing this type of buildings is to focus on the users experience. The concentration in this design was on the patient experience. Patient Experience The main problems that patients face are Circulation issue and Stressful environment . The design solution was focusing to solve the theory that state hospitals & clinic have always stressful and fearful environment .

Response Locate the common function in the center . Orient the patient rooms toward the garden . Locate the operation theater suit away from the noise

Comfortable environment ? Theories support the comfort situation : • Land mark on the building • Cultural influence • Admit ample natural light • Use cheerful and calm colors Site plan

Architectural Drawings

Introduction The project is about an architect who want to have his home and his office in the same building. The project is located in a sloped site in Al-Khobar city ,Saudi Arabia. Consideration of the accessibility of both functions and separation of them is the main concern.

Design Process

Site plan

Bird eye view

Having two functions in one building

Divide each function into three masses

Design Guidelines Suitable distribution for functions Taking sun-direction into consideration Give identity to the architect Take advantage of the site slope Differentiate the accessibility of the two zones Maximize views & natural light Achieve privacy for the house

Basement

Rearranging the masses according to the design guidelines

Emphasizing the statement of each mass by playing with the level

Khobar Sea Front Landscape Architecture Project Acting as a leader design-

er and coordinate with all engineering function.

About design Khobar seafront project is a landscape architecture project. The design tend to provide a Dynamic landscape environment for public. Starting from the food truck parking moving to the sitting spaces that was designet in various treatments, yet blended togather in one unified language. Vibrant colors were projected to the hard scape of the project. As a focal point a dynamic bridge with a shucing color was added to provide an exceptional experience toward the sea view.

Duplex houses

09

A 4 prototype duplexes located at Dammam

About design The major response for massing was the neighborhood garden. The orientation of masses was pointed to the garden, Embracing the master bedroom & Jacuzzi. Unconventional treatment of the fence was done by providing an outdoor shaded parking elements with landscape treatment.
