Copper Wire Jewelers Magazine Alternative metals are becoming increasingly popular worldwide and in my own studio I’ve discovered the freedom of working with copper . Copper isn’t always given the respect that gold or silver are as jewelry metals . This group, Copper Wire Jewelers on Ning and this magazine were created to celebrate our re-discovery of copper and other metals in jewelry. I’d like to dedicate this magazine to all the jewelers out there working in copper and creating beautiful, hand crafted works of art you can wear.

This bracelet is one of my first pieces created specifically for men. I wanted it to have elegance but give an impression of strength. I made it with long lengths of twisted 20 gauge wire coiled in 2 layers around a 14 gauge frame. The ends are also coiled for a clasp-free design, with a single brown glass focal bead. http://susannaoriginals.blogspot.com/ I love copper. It's warm with autumn colors and cool with crystals or blues, but always rich with hints of hidden depths and passions. I don't work with it as much as I'd like, because, other than a spool of coated 20 gauge, the only wire in my workshop is 18 gauge buttersoft, electrical wire. No copper beads, no headpins, no findings of any kind, but when I saw some antiqued copper chain on sale, no way was I leaving the store without it. It really wanted to be a bracelet, but the challenge was making headpins. The coated wire couldn't be torched to make balled ends because it just burned and smoked, and everything gets done in my fan-less kitchen. It could be used for the spiraled ends, but because it was shiny copper, could be too much of a good thing. But once I got started, everything kind of fell into place, and I had a ball hammering washers and firing them for some color, curling headpins and making the clasp, and finding some old brass headpins that didn't look out of place on the red berries. And Autumn Dance was created.

My copper earrings are lamp work and copper. They are made with copper washers and copper wire. The washers were sent to me for a challenge. What can you make with copper washers! These were indented using a screwdriver, and then the lamp work beads wired on. After that they were put in LOS, polished and then the ear wires were added. They are in my etsy shop http://fragiaco moglassart.etsy.com

This solid copper and labradorite piece was one I made as a give away for people who bought beads from my gemstone site http://www.magpiegemstones.c om/home.html. The winner choose a sterling necklace instead so this sold in a gallery in Houston. It reminds me of a Genie Bottle. I have been twisting wire and fondling gems for almost two decades. My jewelry is for sale on http://www.szarkas.com/Szark a.html. A lot of people ask me how I learnt to make jewelry. I had a crystal and some wire and just kept twisting for years until now. I am not a master yet, I do not believe, and it has been almost 2 decades. Wire is the ultimate way to discover humility. If I approach it with a feeling of smugness or surety it teaches me quickly that it is in charge. If I cajole, beg and hope it will do what I want it to most times now it will listen. Not always though. It is kind of like life. Szarka Newsletter for wholesale gemstone beads http://www.magpiegemstones.c om/spree.html Jewelry Store http://www.szarkas.com/Szark a.html
"Amber Jungle" I had a handful of faceted glass stones and I bezzeled them with 20g copper, adding seed beads, cubes and coils until the necklace told me it was done. I just love these colors. I have used the same method several times and each piece looks completely unique. I needed side pieces as substantial as the necklace. They are dragon scale chain from Goddess chain
Rowan tree jewellery is made by Ann Henderson in her Freshwater studio. There she twists and bends copper and silver wire in combination with pretty coloured glass beads and semi precious gem stones to make jewellery that Ann believes can soothe the soul and heal the body.
ARTIST STATEMENT I am a strong believer in the power of crystals to heal the body and mind. Copper has long been held to contain properties that can help with arthritic problems. It is said to increase blood flow. It balances the astral with the physical body and raises self esteem. Silver is a general disinfectant and cleanser. It is superb for balancing the astral and physical body. It works on the mind and emotions, relieving stress through its purity and conductivity. Both these metals accentuate the healing power of the gem stones. Colour is also a powerful healer. We are drawn to different colours, reds when we need energy or want to attract sexually. Orange when we need confidence and want to feel happy. Pink when we need nurturing. Yellow to stimulate creative thinking. Blues and greens for calm and healing. The earth colours to ground us and black when we want to be anonymous. If you are drawn to a certain piece of my jewellery, I believe that your intuition is telling you what you need to balance your life.

Vanessa Note: Keep your copper looking shiny and new by using a little Worcestershire Sauce!!
WHEN I WAS A VERY YOUNG CHILD MY MOM GAVE ME A BAG OF TAVENERS ALLSORTS. AN HOUR LATER IT WAS MADE INTO VERY SMALL PERSONS. I HAD TAKEN ALL THE FONDANT AND USED IT AS CLAY. THAT IS HOW IT ALL STARTED, TODAY SOME 35 YEARS LATER I STILL CAN'T STOP. AS YOU CAN SEE IT IS NOW BEADS AND ART CLAY I'M "PLAYING" WITH. IN MY "SPARE TIME" I'M WORKING AS A TEACHER. MY DESIGN/COLOR IDEAS ARE MOSTLY FROM MY GARDEN BUT ALSO FROM THE SEA/BEACH. LIVING SO CLOSE TO NATURE IS REALLY NICE. HTTP://KITTUNIKADESIGN.DK/?ID=8155 0 KITT
A NECKLACE IN TURQUOISE AND RAW AMBER, WITH A LARGE HANDMADE BRONZE CLAY FLOWER, FOCAL BEAD AND BRONZE WIRE CLASP.
This piece is perfectly named "Acapulco" and will easily take the wearer back to the beautiful Mexican breezes found in this mystical place. It's a wonderful piece that hangs approximately 18" with the dangle extending another 2". The arrangement of natural agate, coral and African map jasper is beautifully accented by the two large unakite stones touched by a hint of Swarovski crystal. Copper wire accents and findings finish this piece off in elegance. http://www.crystalwandcreations.com Lois McIntire
This is a combination of copper that I added a patina to, a silver charm focal and gold tone leaf charm all come together to form my first mixed metals necklace! Behind the silver tone “Be Kind” charm is a copper piece I hammered a texture into and finished with a wonderful gunmetal color patina. Finishing it off with a few gemstone wire wrapped rutilated quartz, a copper patina washer, and a beautiful gold tone leaf that plays well with the gold rutiles in the gems and the bird on the silver tone charm. Black cord is included. Mixed metals piece is roughly 3” in length and 2” in width at the widest point. This is a fun handcrafted piece!

Button-Up is a copper bracelet that feels like a cuff. The main portion of the bracelet features an etched and shaped rectangle of copper that resembles tooled leather. A torchfired enamel disc in the most beautiful shade of turquoise is riveted to the etched copper. All links forming the bracelet are hand-fabricated and -hammered. The entire bracelet is oxidized to impart a feeling of age. All components have been fabricated by the artist.
THE PIECE THAT I HOLD DEAREST SO FAR IS MY 'KEVIN', THE PEACOCK. I LOVE COLOR - I DON'T JUST LOVE IT, I ADORE IT!. AND I'M CRAZY ABOUT GEMSTONES TOO. A LETHAL COMBINATION TO THE WALLET. LOL I WANTED TO MAKE A PEACOCK FOR A LONG TIME, AND WHEN I SAW 'UP', THE ANIMATED FILM, I FELL FOR KEVIN, THE PARADISE-PEACOCK-NON-MALE BIRD. MY KEVIN WAS MADE FROM A BRASS FRAME IN DIFFERENT SECTIONS AND COILED WITH BOTH BRASS AND BRONZE WIRE. THE TAIL WAS SHAPED SEPARATELY AND LATER ATTACHED TO THE BODY. FOR THE BODY I USED IOLITE BUTTONS IN A HEAVENLY BLUISH COLOR AND THE WING IS FILLED WITH A GRADE FACETED PRASIOLITE (GREEN AMETHYST). ONE BIG PRASIOLITE BRIOLETTE WAS INCORPORATED AS A FOCAL POINT. ON HIS HEAD HE WEARS A CROWN OF TINY RHODOLITE GARNET BRIOLETTES. THE UPPER PART OF HIS TAIL IS FILLED WITH BIG DEEP GREEN AVENTURINE BUTTON BEADS. THE EYES AT THE BOTTOM HOLD AA GRADE CITRINE AND AAA DEEP RED GARNET MARQUIS BEADS. KEVIN IS SUSPENDED FROM A DOUBLE BRASS CHAIN BECAUSE HE'S A WEIGHTY FELLOW (FROM ALL THAT CHOCOLATE). THE PEACOCK CENTER PIECE MEASURES 84MM X 100MM (3 ¼”X 4”). KEVIN GOT SOLD, AND THE LADY WHO RECEIVED HIM AS A GIFT SENT ME A VERY NICE THANK YOU MAIL SAYING HOW SHE ADORED HIM AND HAD TAKEN HIM OFF ONLY TO GO TO BED. I WAS SORRY HE WENT SO QUICKLY, BUT HAPPY SOMEONE ELSE WAS EQUALLY FOND OF HIM. KIND REGARDS, CLEO

Yards and yards of coiled copper wire and lovely Green Ocean Jasper beads comprise these beautiful bracelet. The bracelet has been oxidized to give it a lovely aged patina. It has also been coated with a polymeric resin to maintain the patina and protect against skin irritation. This bracelet will fit a 7 inch wrist nicely. Lynda

This sliced geode has been sitting on my desk for quite some time, waiting patiently for a new home. I actually made the frame first and then realized that that the geode would fit perfectly. There are holes drilled in the focal so it is stabilized with a 24 gauge copper wire wrap. The frame is 14 gauge copper.
COPPER HAS TURNED INTO MY METAL OF CHOICE. THE WARM COLOR COMPLIMENTS MANY GEMSTONES AND LOOKS BEAUTIFUL BY ITSELF. Suzanne Jewelry Design Unique Handcrafted Jewelry "Lots of Charm." My inspiration for this project came from Connie Fox's "Life's A Charm" bracelet. Although her piece was done in sterling silver, I always use copper wire to practice my skills before attempting a project in sterling silver or gold. Since I am still very much in the practice mode, I use a lot of copper wire! Much to my delight, I am discovering that copper wire can be used to create beautiful jewelry! I particularly like to use liver of sulfur for dimension, buffing for shine and tumbling to add more shine and durability. Thank you so much for bringing us all together. Your energy and efforts are truly appreciated! Sue Jenson Suzanne Jewelry Design http://www.suzannejewelr ydesign.com
