PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT TITLE: Convention Center design LOCATION: Meskel square, Hawassa city, Ethiopia PROJECT TYPE: School project (Integrated Design Course) PROJECT YEAR: 5th Year 1st Semester (September-January 2021/22) SOFTWARES USED: Revit, Lumion & Photoshop ABOUT THE PROJECT: Convention centers are thought to be the reflections of the way of life of their cities and also they must exhibit the characters which are unique to the city. Therefore, the design should portray the urban fabrics which wove the city into existence. Hawassa city owes its conception to the natural elements surrounding it, such as: the lake, the mountains and the climate as it is. And the design aimed to capture this seamless and smooth blend between the built environment and its natural surroundings, by designing a convention center which has the capacity to reflect the urban fabrics which were the foundation for this city. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: -Understanding the integration of architectural of architectural design, urban design and landscape design. -Understanding the social and urban dimensions of architecture and how it interacts with urban context. -Ability to prepare presentation for a complex design project with suitable verbal and graphics communication.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT TITLE: Youth center design LOCATION: Hawassa city, Ethiopia PROJECT TYPE: School project (Architectural Design Course) PROJECT YEAR: 3rd Year 1st Semester (October-February 2019/2020) SOFTWARES USED: Revit, Lumion & Photoshop ABOUT THE PROJECT: A youth center is a social and recreational center intended for use by children from age 7-18. Since youths are one of the important population groups in terms of building up the society and moving the world forward, they should be given enough facilities to spend their time. The concept is to create a fluid relationship between: programs, spaces, users, landscape, and building form. As fluidity is the quality of being smooth and continuous, experienced by the smooth visual and emotional movments. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: -To understand how architecture impacts many aspects of society. -Understanding demographic dimensions of architecture. -Ability to create interactive spaces, linking the built environment and the landscape. -Preparing verbal and graphical communication medium.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT TITLE: Domestic airport design LOCATION: Hawassa domestic airport, Hawassa city PROJECT TYPE: School project (Integrated Design Course) PROJECT YEAR: 4th Year 2nd Semester (June-September 2021) SOFTWARES USED: Revit, Lumion & Photoshop ABOUT THE PROJECT: An airport terminal is a building at an airport where passengers transfer between ground transportation and the facilities that allow them to board and disembark from an aircraft. The ruling concept here is to create a space and form which is a projection of contemporary architectural concepts such as: sustainability, smooth circulation and space flow, while reflecting the cultural and traditional values of the area (Hawassa). PROJECT OBJECTIVE: -Understanding the integration of architectural of architectural design, structural design and building systems. -Understanding technological dimensions of architecture. -Ability to prepare presentation for a complex design project with suitable verbal and graphics communication.

19

20

FORM EVOLUTION

1

Selecting a linear terminal configuration, which is convinient for domest airports due to its centralized passenger processing. And also it follows simple organizationa principles.

2

Dividing the rectangular volume into three in order to represent the three(passengers, structural stability and light & circulation)focus areas while designing airport terminal building.

3

Curving out the top cornres of its longitudinal ends, in order to minimize the effects of lateral loads such as: wind and earth quake.

4

Providing a binding element which ties the three sections together, illustrating how important it is to form a strong link between those sections.

5

Intruding the middle section so that, it will admit natural light in to the deep spaces. It also makes a clear distinction on the existence of those three elements.

6

Adding a more emphasised entrance and a form which flows seamlessly from the ground to the building, to maintain the fluid appearance of the volume to the rather flat front elevation.

23

STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS MONOLITHIC WALLS To support the central extrusion, which is elevated from the rest of the terminal, I proposed a monolithic shear wall to support it and also it provides support to the core and the elevators.

SPACE FRAME Space frame is a rigid, light weight, truss-like structure constructed from interlocking trusses in a geometric pattern. Space frame can be used to span large areas with few interior supports, which is a key feature to provide spacious interior. On the terminal building, the angulating space trusses transfer load directly in to the ground.

THE C-PILLARS The C-pillars, which are located beneath the skylights to support the spaceframe above. Its main purpose is to reduce structural components and expand spaces. And also it is the best way to support the sky lights.

24

26

PROJECT DESCRIPTION PROJECT TITLE: Contemporary temple design LOCATION: Not specified PROJECT TYPE: School project(Interior Design course) PROJECT YEAR: 5th Year 2nd Semester (February-June 2022) SOFTWARES USED: Revit, Lumion & Photoshop ABOUT THE PROJECT: In appearance, the building is out of proportion to a human scale and pointy towards its top, which gives it a vanishing towards the sky look. This depicts the grandeur of the Lord. The interior is open and spacious with transparent and slender windows admitting so much natural light to the inside, which outlines the idea of being honest in front of the Lord. At the center, the ground floor sinks to form a depression which has three stairs going down to it and one stair going up again to the ground floor level. At the left and right side of it there are niches which are used for solitude, prayer and mediation. And at the center of the sunken space, there exists a water pool which demonstrates the concept that people from anywhere could come here, atone for their sins and wrong doings, and cleansed with the mercy of the Lord they would come clean on the other side towards the light. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: -To understand how interior spaces impact human behaviour and emotions. -To assess the relation ship between architectural design, landscape design and structural design in relation to interior space quality. -Presenting a design along with good verbal and graphic communication.

27

28

CONCEPT EVOLUTION

A triangle is the most stable structure, which portrays the idea that the lord is dependable. And also it is pointy to the top, explaining the ascension of prayers.

Optimizing the triangular shape into a gradually increasing form which gives it the appearance of moving up in both sides.

Creating a depression that sinks on the floor with stairs going in and out on the opposite sides of its longitudinal axis with niches forming on the walls left and right, used for meditation and solitude.
