Don’t dream it – be it.

A double bill of masterful plays by Noel Coward Fresh from their success with Charles Dickens’ The Chimes, Lighthouse bring their trademark style to two plays by the inimitable Noel Coward. Mild Oats was written in the early twenties and tells the bittersweet comedy of a couple who have come back to a flat late at night for one thing, and find something very different happening... Still Life is the play which became the film Brief Encounter, and needs no introduction. It tells the story of Alec and Laura – a pleasant, upstanding middle-aged couple both happily married, and facing the turmoil of a doomed love affair...

Dyma’r sioe gomedi ‘stand up’ Gymraeg hir-ddisgwyliedig gan un o gomedïwyr mwyaf poblogaidd a llwyddiannus Prydain, Elis James. Er mai Cymraeg yw ei iaith gyntaf, mae Elis wedi perfformio stand up trwy gyfrwng Saesneg ers degawd ac fe’i enwebwyd fel Best Club Comic yng Ngwobrau Chortle 2014. Fe’i gwelwyd ar Crims (BBC3), 8 Out Of 10 Cats (Channel 4), Dave’s One Night Stand (Dave), Live At The Comedy Store (Comedy Central), Russel Howard’s Good News (BBC3) a The Elis James and John Robbins Show (XFM). Dyma’r tro cyntaf iddo ysgrifennu awr o gomedi yn y Gymraeg. Beth yw “Gwaith Mewn Llaw”? Dyma gyfle unigryw i weld un o brif ddigrifwyr Prydain yn datblygu sioe gomedi trwy brofi deunydd o flaen cynulleidfa fyw, a hynny yn y Gymraeg. ___ This is the long anticipated first ever stand up comedy show in Welsh by one of Britain’s most succesful comedians, Elis James.

Music Adolphe Adam Choreography Yuri Grigorovich The young peasant girl Giselle dies when she learns that the man she loves, Albrecht, has betrayed her. Against her will, she joins the wilis, vengeful spirits who now turn against Albrecht and condemn him to dance until he dies of exhaustion. This gem of Romantic ballet is one of the oldest and greatest in the classical repertoire, touching upon the great Romantic themes: a doomed love affair ending in tragedy, a dive into fantasy, and ultimate redemption through the power of love.

Benedict Cumberbatch takes on the title role of Shakespeare’s great tragedy. As a country arms itself for war, a family tears itself apart. Forced to avenge his father’s death but paralysed by the task ahead, Hamlet rages against the impossibility of his predicament, threatening both his sanity and the security of the state. Directed by Lyndsey Turner and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions.

The 39 Steps Hitchcock’s tale of espionage is playfully brought to the stage as a comic spoof by the team behind last year’s ‘Bedroom Farce’. Follow the incredible adventures of our dashing hero Richard Hannay (Gareth John Bale), complete with stiff-upperlip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache as he encounters dastardly murders, doublecrossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women. Fast- paced, gripping and full of adventure, this hilarious whodunit features 4 fabulous actors, 139 characters and 39 steps all in 100 minutes! A ‘spiffingly good’ night at the theatre. ___ Mae’r sioe hynod ddoniol hon yn nodweddu 4 actor talentog a 139 o gymeriadau, y cyfan mewn 100 munud! Noson ddifyr iawn! Shobana Jeyasingh Dance:

Material Men & Strange Blooms Shobana Jeyasingh Dance present an extraordinary double bill that pairs Strange Blooms (2013) with a brand new work. Material Men features newly commissioned music by award-winning Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin performed live by The Smith Quartet and Leafcutter John adds his own unique sound design. Strange Blooms is inspired by the cellular life of plants and it pits the energy of eight dancers against the pulsating music of Gabriel Prokofiev’s score. ___ Bil dwbl eithriadol o ddawns wahanol iawn sy’n cyfuno Strange Blooms (2013), a ysbrydolwyd gan fywyd cellog planhigion, gyda gwaith newydd trawiadol – darn meistrolgar ar gyfer dau unawdydd o’r alltudiaeth Indiaidd, un clasurol a’r llall yn arbenigo mewn hip hop. 2015 sees The Blues Band Celebrate their 35th year together: Paul Jones, Dave Kelly, Tom McGuinness, Rob Townsend and Gary Fletcher. Many of the Blues Band’s 21st century fans weren’t even born when these five virtuosos, already music industry veterans, decided to fly in the face of musical fashion in 1979 and form a band ‘just to play the blues’. No one could have predicted that, 35 years on, they’d still be dazzling audiences with their showmanship and virtuosity. About 20 albums and thousands of gigs later, they’ve earned a reputation around the world as one of the finest exponents of the blues tradition in all its forms. With this line-up, it’s hardly surprising. ___ Mae 2015 yn gweld y Band gwych hwn yn dathlu 35 mlynedd efo’i gilydd – ‘roedd llawer o’u ffans presennol heb eu geni pan benderfynodd y pum cerddor meistrolgar hwn fynd yn erbyn y ffasiwn ym 1979 a ffurfio band ‘jyst i chwarae’r felan’.

Arthur Pita’s The Little Match Girl A dance theatre adaptation after Hans Christian Andersen Following a sell-out season at Sadler’s Wells last year, celebrated director & choreographer Arthur Pita brings his magical dance theatre show, The Little Match Girl to Aberystwyth for what promises to be a magical delight for all the family. Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story, this touching tale of an impoverished young street girl’s hopes and dreams is beautifully told through dance, song and original music performed live on stage. A snowy stage sets the scene for an icy cold Christmas Eve. Pacing the darkening streets with just one final match flame to keep her warm, the little match girl sees a vision of her beloved Grandmother, who guides her up into the night sky, to the shining moon. Now, on a clear night, if you look closely, you might see the light of a shooting star, or is it a match burning brightly? Arthur Pita was nominated for the 2014 Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance and his adaptation of Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis at the Royal Opera House won Olivier, Southbank Sky Arts and Critics Circle National Dance Awards.

Stranded: Heather Ackroyd and Dan Harvey “We were drawn to working with the skeleton of a whale after seeing beaches in the High Arctic littered with thousands of bones... as the work progressed so did our understanding of how the ocean absorbs vast quantities of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuel and how in the last two hundred years the chemistry of the ocean has changed for the first time in millions of years. It is now accepted that should consumption of fossil fuels continue unabated, the acidity of the oceans will increase incrementally and the life they support will perish.” In addition to Stranded this exhibition includes Polar Diamond and the first UK showing of The Ecocide Trials.

“Cawsom ein denu at weithio gyda sgerbwd morfil ar ôl gweld traethau yn yr Artig Uchel gyda miloedd o esgyrn ar hyd y lle… wrth i’r gwaith ddatblygu felly hefyd ein dealltwriaeth o sut mae’r môr yn amsugno meintiau anferth o ddeuocsid carbon sy’n mynd i mewn i’r atmosffer yn sgil llosgi tanwydd ffosiledig a sut, yn ystod y ddau gan mlynedd diwethaf, mae cemeg y cefnfor wedi newid am y tro cyntaf mewn miliynau o flynyddoedd. Derbynnir bellach pe bai traul tanwydd ffosiledig yn parhau fel y mae ar hyn o bryd, bydd asidedd y moroedd yn cynyddu a bydd y bywyd a gynhelir ganddynt yn marw.” Yn ogystal â Stranded mae’r arddangosfa hon yn cynnwys Polar Diamond a’r dangosiad cyntaf yn y DU o The Ecocide Trials.

Abertoir 10th Anniversary

Royal Photographic Society International Print Exhibition 158

Abertoir, Aberystwyth’s own Horror Festival, presents a two- part celebration of the genre. Vincent Price the Anglophile: Acclaimed horror actor Vincent Price loved the UK and is the official ‘Patron Saint’ of Abertoir; his passion for all things British is celebrated here with an exhibition of original posters and lobby cards from the films he made in Britain. The Art of Arrow: Arrow Video is one of the world’s finest specialist labels. Each release features specially commissioned artwork. Abertoir worked with acclaimed artists Graham Humphreys and Gilles Vranckx to curate the eye catching examples here, which looks at how famous posters can be revitalised to breathe new life into much beloved classics. ___ Mae Abertoir, Gŵyl Arswyd unigryw Aberystwyth, yn cyflwyno dathliad o’r genre mewn dwy ran. Vincent Price the Anglophile: ‘Roedd yr actor arswyd adnabyddus Vincent Price yn hoff iawn o’r DU ac ef yw ‘Nawddsant’ swyddogol Abertoir; mae ei hoffter o bopeth Prydeinig yn cael ei ddathlu yma gydag arddangosfa o bosteri a chardiau lobi gwreiddiol o’r ffilmiau a wnaethpwyd ganddo ym Mhrydain. The Art of Arrow: Arrow Video yw un o labeli arbenigol gorau’r byd. Mae pob ffilm yn nodweddu gwaith celf a gomisiynwyd yn arbennig. Bu cyfarwyddwyr Abertoir yn gweithio gydag artist Arrow sef Gilles Vranckx a Graham Humphreys i guradu’r enghreifftiau trawiadol yma, sy’n rhoi bywyd newydd i hen glasuron poblogaidd.

The annual RPS International Print Exhibition is the longest running exhibition of its kind in the world, having been held almost every year since 1854. The exhibition includes 100 works which were selected from some 5000 submissions by a panel including photographer Richard Billingham and picture editor of the Guardian Bridget Coaker. Paul Seawright, photographer and Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster commented on the last exhibition: “For me the work that stands out in the exhibition marries excellent photographic skill with ideas, producing prints rich in meaning, message and technique. The subject matter ranges from the sublime and unusual to the everyday”. ___ Arddangosfa Brint Ryngwladol flynyddol y Gymdeithas Ffotograffig Frenhinol yw’r arddangosfa fwyaf sefydledig o’i math yn y byd, wedi’i chynnal bron bob blwyddyn ers 1854. Hynt Art and culture is for everyone. But if you have an impairment or a specific access requirement, often enjoying a visit to a theatre or an arts centre can be more complicated than just booking tickets and choosing what to wear. Hynt is a national scheme that works with theatres and arts centres across Wales to make things clear and consistent. Hynt cardholders are entitled to a ticket free of charge for a personal assistant or carer at the Arts Centre and all the theatres and arts centres participating in the scheme. Visit www.hynt.co.uk or www.hynt.cym to find a range of information and guidance about the scheme. You can also find out whether you or the person you care for are eligible to join the scheme and complete an application form.
