Deep Green Sea
The Art of Making – The Carpenter
Deep Green Sea is a Greek multi-disciplinary group of artists whose work combines creative capabilities with technology. ‘The Carpenter’ is the first in a series of short films which reflects on the art and science of professionals who work with their hands; a thoughtful and carefully observed film it features a sophisticated use of motion tracking. “The ‘Art of Making’ series aspires to display and highlight certain people who go against the spirit of today’s pessimism and desperation. They dare to dream and create with zeal and imagination. Armed with passion for knowledge and emotion, they attempt to combine the precision of science with the elegance and resourcefulness of art. We thank them wholeheartedly for their contribution.” Deep Green Sea
Grŵp aml-ddisgyblaethol o artistiaid Groegaidd yw Deep Green Sea sy’n cyfuno doniau creadigol gyda thechnoleg. ‘The Carpenter’ yw’r gyntaf mewn cyfres o ffilmiau byrion sy’n adlewyrchu celf a gwyddoniaeth pobl broffesiynol sy’n gweithio gyda’u dwylo; yn ffilm fyfyrgar a chynhwysfawr mae’n nodweddu defnydd soffistigedig o gofnodi symudiad. “Mae’r gyfres ‘Art of Making’ yn anelu at arddangos a ffocysu ar unigolion penodol sy’n mynd yn erbyn pesimistiaeth ac anobaith y byd cyfoes. Maent yn meiddio breuddwydio a chreu gydag eiddgarwch a dychymyg. Yn angerddol ynglyn â gwybodaeth ac emosiwn, maent yn ceisio cyfuno manylrwydd gwyddoniaeth gyda cheinder a dyfeisgarwch celf. ‘Rydym yn diolch iddynt o waelod calon am eu cyfraniad.” Deep Green Sea
Framing the Artists: Artists & Art in Film and Television by Temporary Services A very entertaining (yet deathly serious) look at how living artists are viewed by society: “So what do these representations reveal to us about artists and their work? Many depictions center on artists’ unusual behavior, love affairs, or self-destruction through drugs and alcohol. Jokes about not being able to understand modern art are endless. Very few biographies of actual or fictive artists seriously attempt to consider the artist’s creative process in a nuanced way. Framing The Artists is an overview of many examples of these characterizations…” Brett Bloom and Marc Fischer are Temporary Services; they are based in Chicago and Copenhagen and have been creating art projects, public events, publications, and exhibitions since 1998. “We champion public projects that are temporary, ephemeral, or that operate outside of conventional or officially sanctioned categories of public expression.” Golwg hynod difyr (ond hynod difrifol) ar sut y mae cymdeithas yn ystyried artistiaid: “Felly beth mae’r cynrychiolaethau hyn y datgelu i ni am artistiaid a’u gwaith? Mae llawer o gyflwyniadau yn canolbwyntio ar ymddygiad anghyffredin artistiaid, eu carwriaethau, neu eu hunan-ddinistriad trwy gyffuriau ac alcohol. Mae’r jôcs ynglyn â methu deall celf fodern yn ddi-ddiwedd. Ychydig iawn o fywgraffiadau artistiaid sy’n ceisio ystyried o ddifrif proses creadigol yr artist mewn ffordd drylwyr. Mae ‘Framing The Artists’ yn arolwg o lawer o enghreifftiau o’r nodweddiadau hyn …” Brett Bloom a Marc Fischer yw Temporary Services; maent yn gweithio o Chicago a Copenhagen ac maent wedi bod yn creu prosiectau celf, gweithgareddau cyhoeddus, cyhoeddiadau ac arddangosfeydd ers 1998. “’Rydym yn ffafrio prosiectau cyhoeddus sydd dros dro, yn fyrhoedlog neu sy’n gweithredu y tu allan i gategoriau confensiynol neu swyddogol mynegiant cyhoeddus.”
Christina Read: The Myth of Sisyphus ‘Sometimes reading and understanding feels like pushing a rock up a hill.’ A book reading performance by an artist from Auckland, New Zealand. Christina Read’s art centres on personal and unorthodox relationships between language and object, text and image. She uses her own ‘unspectacular’ life as her source, finding humour and poetry in the everyday. Regular themes are handmade or home-made objects; neuroses and fears; self-delusion and the gap between ideals and reality. She uses various media including sculpture, video and performance. “If worries were things, like worms for example, I expect they would burrow right into you; make convoluted routes through and within the digestive system; sometimes crossing and colliding with one another, sometimes not. …..I am interested in the point at which everyday triviality becomes humorous or strange. I like things that are poetic yet down to earth.” ‘Weithiau mae darllen a deall yn teimlo fel gwthio carreg fawr i fyny rhiw’. Perfformiad darllen llyfr gan artist o Auckland, Seland Newydd. Mae celf Christina Read yn ffocysu ar berthnasau personol ac anghonfensiynol rhwng iaith a gwrthrych, testun a delwedd. Mae’n defnyddio ei bywyd ‘dinod’ ei hun fel ei ffynhonnell, yn dod o hyd i hiwmor a barddoniaeth mewn bywyd bob dydd, Themâu rheolaidd yw eitemau a wnaethpwyd â’r llaw; niwrosis ac ofnau; hunan-gamargraff a’r bwlch rhwng delfrydau a realiti. Mae’n defnyddio amrywiaeth o gyfryngau gan gynnwys cerflunwaith, fideo a pherfformiad. “Pe bai pryderon yn bethau, fel mwydod er enghraifft, mae’n debyg y byddant yn turio reit i fewn i chi; yn tyllu i fewn i’r system dreulio; weithiau’n croesi ac yn gwrthdaro yn erbyn ei gilydd, weithiau dim. …. ‘ rwy’n ymddiddori yn y pwynt lle y daw pethau dibwys bob dydd yn ddoniol neu’n rhyfedd. ‘Rwy’n hoffi pethau sy’n farddonol ac sydd eto’n ddiffwdan.”
