Mill on the Floss By George Eliot Adapted by Helen Edmundson A re-invention of George Eliot's classic story of loss, tragedy and the relentless nature of fate, premièred by Shared Experience Theatre Company. Outgrowing, but still hopelessly devoted to, her family, Maggie befriends the disfigured Phillip Wakem, son of a local lawyer. But their fathers become embroiled in a bitter legal dispute that only the prosperous Wakem can win, and the Tullivers find fate dealing them the first harsh hand of many. With their father dead, the family must face up to their cold future together. The Arts Centre’s Youth Theatre are delighted to present this modern adaptation of one of the greatest classics of all time. Mae’n bleser gan Theatr Ieuenctid y Ganolfan gyflwyno’r addasiad modern hwn o glasur enwog George Eliot am golled, trasedi a natur ddidostur ffawd.

A Walk at the Edge of the World Created by Nicholas Bone, Sans façon and Ian Cameron A man invites the audience to come on a walk with him. When they reach their destination, he talks about walks he has taken, showing images of places he has visited. This award-winning production is a reflection on the act of walking, exploring memory and place and the state of mind created by walking. “A rich tapestry, beautifully woven and with quiet points of resonance” The Scotsman Please note: This event begins with a 20 minute walk. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. An accessible alternative will be available.
Murder on the Nile Simon Mostyn has recently married Kay Ridgeway, a rich woman, having thrown over his former lover Jacqueline. The couple are on their honeymoon on a paddle steamer on the Nile, accompanied by a bevy of memorable characters. Jacqueline shoots Simon, wounding him in the knee. A few moments later Kay is found shot in her bunk. By the time the boat reaches its destination, Canon Pennefather has laid bare an audacious conspiracy! Theatr Gymuned y Ganolfan yn cyflwyno stori glasurol Agatha Christie am lofruddiaeth a llawer mwy… Noson ddifyr o ddryswch a chymhlethdodau!
Man and Superman Ralph Fiennes stars in this exhilarating reinvention of Shaw’s witty, provocative classic. A romantic comedy, an epic fairytale, a fiery philosophical debate, Man and Superman asks fundamental questions about how we live. Jack Tanner, celebrated radical thinker and rich bachelor, seems an unlikely choice as guardian to the alluring heiress, Ann. But she takes it in her assured stride and, despite the love of a poet, she decides to marry and tame this dazzling revolutionary. Tanner, appalled by the whiff of domesticity, flees to Spain, where he is captured by bandits and meets The Devil. An extraordinary dream-debate, heaven versus hell, ensues.

Catrin Finch: Tides Versatile, fearless and extraordinary are all words that have been used to describe Catrin Finch, the world-renowned classical harpist, arranger and composer from Wales. Catrin’s 2015 UK tour marks an exciting new phase in her remarkable musical career; it accompanies the launch of her new album Tides. As Catrin plays harp and piano, she is joined by a string section and other guest musicians to present her new album live on stage. Expect a beautiful musical journey from an extraordinary musician who is at the forefront of her remarkable art. Supported by the Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government and the National Lottery.
Mae gan Catrin Finch, y delynores glodfawr o Gymru, yrfa glasurol ryngwladol lwyddiannus, ac mae wedi rhoi datganiadau ac wedi chwarae gyda cherddorfeydd ar draws y byd. Ond mae taith 2015 Catrin yn marcio cyfnod cyffrous newydd yn ei gyrfa gerddorol ryfeddol; mae’n cyd-fynd â lansiad ei halbwm newydd Tides. 10 .
Appalachian Jack Tales: Jack in the New World Alan Hoal grew up in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, a region rich in folklore and stories. The inhabitants of these mountain communities owe their heritage to Welsh, Scottish and Irish settlers. These hardy immigrants brought their stories with them and adapted them to fit the times and traditions of the Appalachian region. One of the most prominent characters is Jack – from his heroic image in Arthurian legend to the simple but clever peasant eking out a hardscrabble existence. Come hear some of these classic tales as told by a modern day southern storyteller. Cafodd Alan Hoal ei fagu yng nghanol Mynyddoedd yr Appalachiaid, rhanbarth sydd â llenyddiaeth, diwylliant a straeon gwerin cyfoethog – mae trigolion y cymunedau mynyddig hyn yn ddyledus i’r ymsefydlwyr o Gymru, yr Alban ac Iwerddon am eu treftadaeth werthfawr.

Probably the most popular opera in the world. Bizet’s Carmen scandalised its earliest audiences with its raw depiction of lust in 19th-century Seville. In ENO’s popular production, the action is a full-on battle of the sexes, fought out in the arena of the Spanish bullring.

(12 Years a Slave) takes the title role in this dynamic new production of one of English drama’s oldest plays, directed by the National Theatre’s new Director Rufus Norris. Everyman is successful, popular and riding high when Death comes calling. He is forced to abandon the life he has built and embark on a last, frantic search to recruit a friend, anyone, to speak in his defence. But Death is close behind, and time is running out. A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, it now explodes onto the stage in a startling production with words by Carol Ann Duffy, Poet Laureate, and movement by Javier De Frutos. Showing live in our cinema. 90mins.
In the melting pot of Venice, trade is God. With its ships plying the globe, the city opens its arms to all, as long as they come prepared to do business and there is profit to be made. With the gold flowing all is well, but when a contract between Bassanio and Shylock is broken, simmering racial tensions boil over. A wronged father, and despised outsider, Shylock looks to exact the ultimate price for a deal sealed in blood. Polly Findlay (Arden of Faversham 2014) directs Shakespeare's uncompromising tragedy. Charles Hawtrey was one of the leading lights of the Carry On Film franchise. Bubbly, energetic and extremely funny Hawtrey was one of the best known comedy actors of the 40s, 50s and 60s but as his career waned so his behaviour became more drunken, promiscuous and eccentric, losing him many friends in an age when male homosexuality in Britain was illegal and punishable by a prison sentence. See him in this one-man show as he regales stories of 50 years in the film industry. “Rees superbly captures the camp actor’s voice and mannerisms… you will laugh and cry in equal measure.” The Western Mail Teyrnged i’r digrifwr Charles Hawtrey mewn sioe un-dyn sy’n cynnwys straeon yn seiliedig ar 50 mlynedd yn y diwydiant ffilm. Clive Hicks Jenkins: Dark Movements
Now in its 25th year, The BP Portrait Award from the National Portrait Gallery shows fifty-five outstanding and innovative new portraits from around the world. From informal and personal studies of friends and family to revealing images of famous faces, the exhibition features a variety of styles and approaches to the contemporary painted portrait. The works on display, selected from a record-breaking 2,377 entries, include the winner of the £30,000 first prize as well as the work of the BP Young Artist 2014 and the BP Travel Award 2013 winners.
‘Dark Movements’ is a multi-media presentation of works inspired by the Mari Lwyd or ‘grey mare’ story of Welsh mumming tradition; a key influence on Clive Hicks Jenkins’ art. This exhibition will include a number of works from the original series of large scale drawings which the artist made following his father‘s death; works articulating a private grief and fear as well as exploring deep-rooted cultural beliefs. Exhibited alongside these will be new paintings and animated film using the artist’s puppetry figures, as well as examples of the ‘shadow puppet’ models which Clive uses in his painting practice. Puppets and models from the 2013 performance of the chamber-work inspired by the artist's Mari Lwyd series, ‘The Mare’s Tale’ (composer Mark Bowden and librettist Damian Walford Davies), will also be on show.

HYNT Art and culture is for everyone. But if you have an impairment or a specific access requirement, often enjoying a visit to a theatre or an arts centre can be more complicated than just booking tickets and choosing what to wear. Hynt is a national scheme that works with theatres and arts centres across Wales to make things clear and consistent. Hynt cardholders are entitled to a ticket free of charge for a personal assistant or carer at the Arts Centre and all the theatres and arts centres participating in the scheme. Visit www.hynt.co.uk or www.hynt.cym to find a range of information and guidance about the scheme. You can also find out whether you or the person you care for are eligible to join the scheme and complete an application form.
