Otherworld (Y Mabinogi)

(Derek Hayes, UK 2002, 90mins) Combining live-action and animation, this is an imaginative re-telling of the Welsh legends of Y Mabinogi. Three modern-day teenagers swim through a gateway to a 6th Century Celtic Otherworld where each finds a historical counterpart. Their animated stories and struggles with war, magic and family are from a different age, but as each re-surfaces to the real world they find their contemporary dilemmas have been influenced by their experiences in the Otherworld. English language version featuring the voices of Ioan Gruffudd, Matthew Rhys, Paul McGann, Rhys Ifans and Phillip Madoc, and the music of John Cale. Shown as part of Y Mabinogi Project.
