MAKE ME A EUROPEAN IMPRESSIONS FROM
CROATIA TRANSNATIONAL MOBILITY IN ZAGREB, CROATIA DECEMBER 10 – 16, 2015
THE BEST TRIP EVER “All the treasures in the world can’t replace a good friend.”
MARIE, GERMANY For me, the trip to Croatia was the best trip I’ve ever done. I can’t say what the best thing in Croatia was. We’ve made an interesting IT course with the tablets, where we’ve learned how to cut a video. The “Hour of Code” was funny and informative. When we visited the museums, we got much information about the Croatian history, which was also connected to some parts of the German history. We had to speak English quite the whole week and so we could practice a lot and it was fun. For me the best thing was that we’ve made so many new friends. The people from Croatia were so friendly and helpful and they treated me/us like we’d been friends for many years. Of course; the people from the other countries were so nice too and I really miss them. The hardest time for me was when I had to leave. It was such an emotional moment and I really miss them all. I think we all got along very well which each other and had a great time. For me it was such a great time and a very interesting experience and I’m so glad about that. I practiced my English, made new great friends, stay in contact with them and learned so many things; not only about histories, even about habits and traditions, people and friendship.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MY TRIP
MICHELLE, GERMANY The first highlight for the German team was the flight to Croatia I think. We thought about our hosts, how they will be, how they will treat us and how the host families will be. In the evening, when we arrived at the airport in Zagreb, our host students already were waiting for us and it came to an really warm welcome. After this we drove home to our host families. On the way to the house I talked with my host student and her mum, who has lived in Germany a view years, so she mostly talked in German with me. Both were really nice and the ice was broken fast. At home I met the grandparents of my host student. They didn’t speak English, but a little bit German, something like „hello“ and „How are you?“. The house of he family seamed really nice and comfortable. To get to know each other my host, her little sister and me went to get some coffee (something we had done the whole week) :D. At the first day we went to school in the afternoon. All guests from the other countries were welcomed there. The school choir sang some Croatian songs and we got some little presents from the principal oft he school. After that we had a traditional brunch, self-made from the teachers. It was very delicious! On the next days we went to Krapina, took part in the hour of code, learned, how to program something in the internet and made some videos ourselves. At the last evening all students and teachers went to the centre of Zagreb together, where we went ice-skating. This was so funny! My favourite activity this week. ^-^ But we all were sad too, because we knew, that this was the last evening we spend together. After ice-skating all the students went to a coffee and sit there for a couple for hours. We talked a lot, made jokes and it felts like we were already friends for years, but unfortunately it was just one week. Say goodbye at the airport was the hardest part oft he trip to Croatia. It was very emotional and some of us were crying. Nevertheless it was one oft he best weeks I ever had!
A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE ERIC, GERMANY Already two weeks are gone, since we traveled to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. On Thursday, the 10th of December our trip started in Nuremberg. We flew directly over Amsterdam to Zagreb. Everybody was really excited to meet their host family and so even the flight became an adventure. We landed in the late afternoon, our host families were already waiting and we had a really warm welcome. My host was Luca – an extremely nice guy! We drove about half an hour to get home. On the road we talked a lot with his dad and his cousin. The ice was broken! At home we ordered an extremely delicious big pizza. So I went lush and happy to bed. The next morning we didn’t have to be in school until 2 pm. In the morning we played computer games. While gaming he told me, that he had been living in Germany for 6 years, so we switched communication to a mix of German and English. Time went by fast and we had to go to school. We went by bus and at school we had a pretty warm welcome again. The choir was singing for us and after that we had a big brunch with traditional food. After that we absolved our hour of code – which means, that we learned some basics of programming. That was fun! We did all that in a classroom of the future, a self-designed room with a Samsung tablet-computer for everybody and a big whiteboard. In the evening we went into the city
center with our hosts for having a coffee. That was a nice experience, because it wasn’t just an ordinary coffee. It was the feeling of having a coffee in community with lots of extremely friendly and interesting young people! We joked a lot and it felt like we had been friends for years – the evening seemed to race. We exchanged punishing words, and this list of words will always remind me of one of the best evenings I ever had. The next day we traveled to a museum of Neanderthals. And the bus ride showed again how nice international community is! We sang lots of songs and recognized that we have same music interests. We also had lunch in a traditional restaurant. The meals were dominated by delicious meat – that was great! In the evening we ate a big burger and went to have a coffee again. Feeling was the same as the day before and I started wishing not to go home. The next morning I was really tired because we had gone to bed late. We had a guided tour through the city center of Zagreb. The man who guided us was pretty interesting because he was able to tell stories in a modern way. Zagreb is a beautiful old city with a long and fascinating history. The visit of the museum of Zagreb proves this fact. The day became better and better and my fatigue nearly was gone. We went shopping in a big mall. But it wasn’t an “I go shopping”, it was a “we go shopping”. Everybody went with everybody in every store to advise and help. What a great feeling to be together with your friends! That evening we went to bed early, because fatigue caught us back soon. On Tuesday we spent most of the time in school to cut our videos for creating a big new one with all impressions of Zagreb. Therefore we had taken videos the days before. We were taught in some basics by a young and funny teacher. After that we attended a German lesson and tried to help with creating a German Christmas card. It was very interesting to watch others learning our language. The evening WE (and some coffees) spend in the city again. But there wasn’t just happiness, because the shadow of our leaving grew up faster and faster. Wednesday started with a breakfast like every other morning. I had cheese and very good salami. In school we finished our video productions. And we were given certifications for our hour of code and attendance of the project. After that we went to city again to spend our last Kunas. In the evening we went ice skating with all members of the project. It was amazing, because the ice skating trail was built up in the city center. We had a lot of fun on the ice – it was the best adventure we had this week! After skating we drank a mulled wine (or two) but then we had to say “Good Bye” to most of our new friends. I hate goodbyes. The last day we stopped on our way to the airport in a very old city to taste a traditional cake. It was very delicious. After that I also had to say Good Bye to my host family, while having a coffee - of course. But we will stay in contact and hopefully we will see each other soon! All in all, our trip to Croatia was one of the best trips and adventures I ever had. I met so many new nice people and we became Croatians in just a week. I want to say thank you, to all teachers, my new friends – but especially to my hosts! Join the eTwinning project – it´s an experience everybody should make.
FRIENDS FOREVER PASCAL, GERMANY The highlight of the December in 2015 was definitely the eTwinning-student-exchange-flight to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. On the 10th of December our journey began at the airport in Nuremberg, which is the next bigger city to our hometown Hildburghausen. The flight was very exciting because everyone of us thought about the new students, the new home or especially our teachers about their new colleague. The food on the flight with an Dutch airline
was very horrible – typical Dutch food. Arriving in Zagreb was a good feeling maybe because of the Croatian air. The welcome of our host families at the airport was really warm and nice. After the first minutes of getting to know each other my host Karlo, his mum, my two teachers and me drove into the city. A very funny ride! After dropping the teachers off at their hotel we had a very delicious dinner at Karlo’s home. So on the first day I understand Croatian food is different than German food but at least it’s just as well. We learned so many things during our trip e.g. programming with the ‘Hour of Code’, cutting a video, practicing ‘Everyday English’ or handling with people from other countries and so much more… But I think the most important thing I learned was finding friends in a only a few days. It was a pleasure to stay a week with people from 4 other countries in Zagreb. I don't want to do without this beautiful time! Thanks a lot to the Croatian team – now we’re Croatian Europeans!!
A CHANCE TO IMPROVE ENGLISH LAURA, ITALY This experience was really great for me because I could improve my English and meet new friends from different countries. I also visited attractive parts of Zagreb, for example the city centre with its beautiful cathedral and its narrow crooked streets, where you can buy delicious chestnuts and the “Zoo Corn”. In Zagreb you can see
big red hearts hanging from invisible wires: they are Christmas decorations. You can buy them too, at Christmas markets, but the hearts you'll buy are smaller than those that you saw hanging! Christmas markets are really nice; there are little white houses of wood where people stay all the day. I loved when we went ice skating, because the track was all lit up with a thousand lights!!! I liked the school too... but I think that ours is more beautiful!
A FUN WEEK ELISA, ITALY The first day was very difficult for me and my friends because we were the youngest of all the students and we were afraid, but the following days we had fun and were very happy. The activities made in Zagreb were very funny. My favourite activities were the visit to the museum of Neanderthal and ice-skating. The family was very welcoming with me and my host Maja was friendly. Zagreb is a beautiful and big city. In Zagreb there is a beautiful main square and there is a gothic cathedral. In Zagreb there are a lot of trams and we took trams every day with our host students. For me, this experience was very important and very special.
INTERESTING AND COOL MARIANNA, ITALY The experience in Zagreb was very beautiful and interesting! Zagreb is a big and beautiful city , the people are very friendly and very nice. We tried the typical food , it is very good but different. The activity were very interesting. My favourite site was the Neanderthal museum because it was very funny, interesting and cool!
My favourite activity was ice skating. It was very very amusing but skating is difficult! After this experience I can speak English better. In the family I felt very well because they were very nice to me. My host student was Noa , he is 14 years old and has got 2 little sisters : Ema and Romi , his parents were very nice to me.
GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER ELENI, CYPRUS Hello! My name is Eleni and i am 16 years old. I am Cypriot. In my free time i like listening to music and surfing the net. I go to the Apeitio High School in Agros. I like Croatia! There are awesome buildings and i think the Cathedral is one of them. I was impressed by the Christmas decorations and markets. The visit to the museum was unique because it gave us the chance to meet your culture. We get to know each other through the families, the workshops and discussions. Thank you Croatia for hosting us!
I LIKE CROATIA CHARILAOS, CYPRUS My name is Charilaos and I am 16 years old. I am from Cyprus and I go to Apeitio high school in Agros. In my free time I like listening to music and practicing programming. My favorite singer is Shakira and Selena Gomez I like Croatia! Croatia is an impressive country with ancient and modern buildings alike and friendly, hospitable people. I gained experiences and knowledge about a country which is completely different from mine. In addition Erasmus is a great program! Experience and friendships gained through programs like Erasmus that bring young people together and unify Europe and its citizens, promoting peace all over the world. All of the presentations, videos and visits were very interesting and informative. The only thing which was difficult for us was the weather as the climate is completely different in our Country. Despite that I spent a wonderful week there and had unforgettable times! Thank you Croatia for hosting us!
MY IMPRESSIONS FROM THE TRIP RAFAILIA, CYPRUS Country: I like this country because there are very nice buildings with different colors and behind of them there is a long history. The decoration of this country is very impressive and strange. Families: The family who hosted me in their house they were hospitable. I didn’t expect so warm welcome and especially because they didn’t knew me. If I wanted something I could ask them. School: Their school wasn’t beautiful in appearance but I liked the way they selected their courses. I liked this because you can choose specific courses that have relation with the profession that they want to go and so will you know from before. If you enjoy this profession and you will want to do in the future. Program: The program was interested but as a point because I would like to go out to visit different places to know and we would do there these activities.
FRIENDLY PEOPLE MARIA, CYPRUS My name is Maria and i am 16 years old. I am from Cyprus and I go to Apeitio high school in Argos. In my free time I like listening to music and i surf on the net! I love theater very much and my favorite actor is Channing Tatum! I like Croatia! Croatia is an impressive country with rich history. The people are friendly and hospitable! I had wonderful, unforgettable times there! The visit to Bistritsa was an unforgettable experience and making cookies was unique. Also the school was quite good. The videos which were presented in the school were very informative giving a whole picture of Zagreb, its history and people. The only thing I found difficult to get used to the weather, because it was very freezing cold!
FEEL LIKE A EUROPEAN KUBA, POLAND In December 2015 I was in capital city of Croatia, Zagreb. I have taken part in an international project Erasmus+ ,,Make me European’’ Because it was my first time in project like that, I was a bit stressed, but after my arrival everything got better. It was interesting and exciting trip. I’m happy I could meet very nice and interesting people. Now my knowledge about live in Croatia and about this country is bigger than earlier. And I think I’m more self-reliant than earlier. My host Luka and his family were really nice and friendly to me. Luka’s mother cooked great Croatian dishes, I tasted typical Croatian sweets, too. My hobby is playing football so Luka’s
friend organized for me football match at school pitch with other school mates and students from other countries. In Zagreb me and my friends could learn about history of Croatia and Zagreb. We had a lot of attractions including guided tours, ice skating making our own movies and even baking traditional Croatian biscuits. At school we were learning about programming. After lessons we could go to our host’ s homes or simply continue visiting city centre. I hope I will be able to take part in this project meeting again. It was really great experience. “A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step”- said Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher. Now I feel like a real European. I dream about studying abroad. Trip to Zagreb was my first step to make my plans come true.
LIKE HOME BOGDAN, POLAND My host in Zagreb was Doran. He and his family live in a district called Precko (as far as I remember). Doran’s father is a chief of a restaurant so I could eat delicious food like homemade cheesecake (one of the best I have ever had in my life) and many others. Doran’s mother was always asking me if I am hungry, if everything is OK, and things like that (just like my mother :). I felt like with my own family at home in Poland. Doran’s school is much bigger than mine. His friends were very funny and friendly. They always make me laughing. I hope we will be able to see each other in Poland or somewhere else. I would like to. Lessons at school were great (especially Hour of Code). I could learn a lot of things like making films on tablet and coding. Trips around Zagreb weren’t as interesting as time spent at school (maybe I couldn’t focus on information told by our guide).
My favourite time was when we ate traditional Croatian meals. In my opinion Zagreb is very beautiful city. Especially by night.
GREAT MEMORIES MAGDA, POLAND From the 10th to the 16th December students from Italy, Cyprus, Germany and Poland had the unique chance to come to Zagreb, visit the city, live with Croatian peers and take part in “Make me a European” project. All 6 days the whole group of 32 students was able to explore the capital of Croatia and discover other cultures. We had a chance to meet people from all around Europe. Everything began on Thursday, when all groups arrived to Zagreb. Our hosts from Croatia picked us up and took home, where we were living for the next days. On Friday all students met at school, ate brunch together and tried the Hour of code, a computer programme for teenagers. For Saturday the plan was to attend cooking classes and visit the Maria Bistrica church. Sunday we spent in Zagreb admiring the beautiful Christmas decorations and sights of the city. We were lucky because that year Zagreb has won the contest for the best Christmas decoration in Europe. The next few days we attended school and everyone watched movies prepared by Croatian students about their country and culture. We also shot our own clips and cut them with the help of the teachers. We all became very close to each other so it was very difficult to leave on Wednesday, but thanks to this trip everyone will have great memoires. See you all soon in Warsaw
AMAZING WEEK DOMINIKA, POLAND I’m Dominika if you remember me. I want to tell you something about my experiences during the meeting in Zagreb. My host was Mia. She was nice but we have very different characters so it was sometimes difficult to find conversation topic. But she was really nice and friendly. Her mum and brothers were really good to me, too. It was fantastic to meet you! About Zagreb‌ I think Zagreb is a beautiful city. It's very old and unique. I love Croatia. I have been to the capital city three times before but it was amazing to see it again and to meet people from all over the world there! I hope to see you again in Poland! Thank you for an amazing week. I learned quite a lot and I saw many interesting monuments. We were in Maria Bistrica and it was quite amazing to saw this pretty old church. I've never seen this town before. We made and ate there delicious gingerbread cookies.
What I want to tell now is that during the Croatian week we were able to practice English. Mia's English was very good so it helped me to improve mine. We also could see how people in Zagreb live and how school looks like and works. It was lovely to see this city in Christmas time. It has a lot of decorations and lights and I was in love with them! I want to thank you all! Teachers and of course students! Without you it would be boring! I met fantastic people. That's why I love exchanges and international projects of that type!
LEARNING CULTURES Ms. ELENI SANTI, CYPRUS My name is Eleni Santi. Participating in Erasmus+ was a unique experience for me. Our first meeting took place in Zagreb, Croatia from 10th – 16th December. Learning cultures, meeting peoples, take part in European programs is one of the most important things to do. I enjoy interacting with new people very much. That’s why I am very glad that I had the opportunity to visit Zagreb, in the heart of different cultures congestion, in Croatia. I am really excited of being in the meeting of Zagreb and I am pretty sure that all the students and teachers have the same feeling. I will never forget my visit in Zagreb. I was so excited to come here in Zagreb is an amazing city, especially at night when it is sparkling with lights all around. The Christmas markets were so awesome and made us feel so nice and happy. I have met very nice people and they tried to make us feel comfortable. It was very important that they had a plan for each day of the meeting and had the willing to help us with any sort of things (or even with how to find the right bus to the center of Zagreb). At the meeting there were students and teachers of different nationalities. It was quite exciting to meet new people from different countries. You find many interesting things to talk about, and I ended up we learned a lot about their culture, tradition and their school. So far I have found that people living in the Croatia are very friendly and communicative. What is immediately notable is that everyone is smiling to you, saying “hi,” wishing you to have a good day and asking if you need help (especially in stores and markets). I like being in such a friendly atmosphere very much. People seem to be too busy with their own things and are rushed too much but they were always smiled, well dressed and always looked so nice and friendly. They also have this “smiling” culture. We really met friendly and good people in Zagreb. We had the chance to visit towns, museums, the historical center of the city and admire the rich culture and heritage of this country. We enjoyed the rich history and arts, their customs and of course their incredible hospitality. The Croatian teachers made us feel comfortable from the first day of this meeting. They were incredible helpful and kind offering help and guidance in whatever we needed. This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. The school is well organised. Many interesting activities took place at school. We learn about the future classroom. They introduced us new web tools and we have been involved in many useful and interactive activities. The whole process was impressive and help all of us to participate, learn, communicate and finally to gain a valuable experience. We got a view of this school and the future methods of teaching. Teachers and students gained a lot through this first meeting. We had the chance to exchange ideas and learn about other educational systems, which will adapt in our educational system. Furthermore the technology used to create the videos and the presentations gave us the opportunity to learn more about their school, history and about their way of life. In conclusion, I would like to say that it is wonderful to take part in an international European program “Erasmus Plus.

MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING Ms. ALEXANDRA KALLI, CYPRUS Participating in Erasmus+ was a unique experience. The first meeting took place in Zagreb, Croatia from 10th – 16th December. The city itself is magnificent and impressive and the Christmas decorations add an awesome view. We had the chance to explore the historical centre of the city and admire the rich culture and heritage of the city. We enjoyed wandering through the museum looking at all the magnificent works of art and it was overwhelming to come face-to-face with the Croatian history. The people are really friendly and hospitable. The Croatian teachers made us feel comfortable from the first meeting. They were incredible helpful and kind offering help and guidance in whatever we needed. The school is well organised, there was programme for everything and an important fact was that both teachers and students were participating in all activities. That made the whole process more interesting and active. The welcome reception was simple and touching at the same time. We got a quick view of the school and the Christmas spirit. As concerning the programme it was just the beginning, I am sure that there are more to come from all the participating countries. Teachers and students gained a lot through this first meeting. The interaction with other cultures is an important factor that leads to friendships and the mutual understanding of what is happening around us and in the whole world. Through the programme teachers and students come together promoting peace and understanding between different nations. We had the chance to exchange ideas and learn about other educational systems, which will help us become better and why not adapting what might be suitable for us; Furthermore the technology used to create the videos and the presentations gave us the opportunity to learn more and become more technological advanced.

OUR EXCHANGE MARTA, CROATIA The first day was very exciting because we were about to pick up our exchange students. I had Michelle staying at my place. She came from Germany . My mom and I picked her up at the airport. At first sight she was shy and quiet but on the way home we talked so soon we were old friends. My mom spoke to her on German so I had an opportunity to practise both languages that was really interesting. As we got home and Michelle started unpacking she gave me a brochure and a map of her hometown so I had an opportunity to see where she lives. That evening we got to know each other better, I found out whether she has siblings or what does her parents do for a living, etc. The following day we went to school, where our school choir sang for them and where they received welcome bags from our school. At school before brunch (with traditional Croatian specialties) that was made by our teachers, we participated in an programming workshop. After school we headed towards the City with all exchange students and hosts. We sat down in a cafe so we could get to know each other better. Unfortunately the Italian and Cyprus students were shy and insecure in their English that they did not talked that much with us. The next day we went on a field trip to Krapina to visit the museum of Neanderthals and Marija Bistrica I think it was very nice for them to see something except our Capital City. On Sunday This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. we went on Zagreb sightseeing, we had an awesome guide who made our day because it was a really cold day in Zagreb. That day my mom made a traditional Sunday lunch and my grandmother made a cake which Michelle really liked and I was so happy because I did not Know how will she like my mothers cooking. That afternoon we went to visit my godmother. We also went with her and some of the other family members ice-skating just to prepare ourselves for ice-skating on Monday. We started our Monday by going to school and participating in a workshop they said goodbye to most of our teachers. In the afternoon we went ice-skating. It was the most beautiful experience because even though they were leaving the next day and I probably would not see them again I felt so connected to them. I feel like all though we have been hanging out and trying to get to know each other for 5 days we found out most about them and they about us at that ice-skating. It was a great experience that ice skating but also sad because we had to say goodbye to all of them at the beginning of a great friendship. The next day was really depressing and sad especially when we had to go to the airport. At the airport we were all so sad and we even started crying. I am sure that this is going to be a experience that we will remember for life and I hope that we will see each other again.

We introduced our country and ourselves to the exchange students and we also learned much about their countries. It was fun. ~ROBERT I think that our project is a good opportunity to talk in English with other people and we can learn some new words witch we will probably using in the future. I really love English language and it's great experience to take a part in such a project. The only thing i didn't like in this project is that we who could not host couldn't meet the students that came from other countries to ours. ~STELA Exchange students from Germany, Poland, Cyprus and Italy were very excited. I didn't take part in project because i got ill, and now I feel bad because it was nice experience. I was with group at the Neanderthals museum and we had fun. I wish I participated more in this student exchange. I hope we will meet again. ~LOVRO •
In this project we made a lot of new friends. I hosted an Italian student whose name is Alessandro. ~JOSIP

E-twinning project has been very interesting so far. I personally met only Polish students and we pretty much talked about the life in Poland and how it is compared to life in Croatia. ~MORENO I did not make any friendship with other students from exchange , but I think that was a very good experience for them and I am happy for them. I also know that my friends from class will go to them again so i wish them good time there. ~ARIJAN The project was amazing. I did not host anyone, but still I met a lot of amazing people. They were all really nice. I did not spent a lot of time with them, but my friends told me everything. I think that was a great experience for everyone.
