ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING.

SHOWROOM VISIT

Mr.LIGHT, AVINASHI ROAD, COIMBATORE.

This is a single storeyed showroom. They had Wall lights, track lights, bollards, bulk heads, chandeliers, mirror lights, etc. They had 80% LED and 20% CFL. CFL is not manufactured much, but certain special designs require CFL. LED is the preferred lighting. Why is LED preferred? •LED has more efficiency when compared with CFL, that is more lumens per watt. •Warm, Neutral and Light are the standard colours. But LED can be customized for desired colours with the combination of standard colours.

•LED emits very less heat radiation. •Lifetime of LED is longer than other light sources. It is approximately 1000 to 2000 hours of light.

Table lamps functions with a design in which LED bulbs are fitted in it. Reading lamps have only LED which is inbuilt. Some reading lamps have dimming options depending on the user. Mirror lights are also provided with inbuilt LED but they are available only in standard shape and size. TRACK LIGHT. Tracks can be mounted to ceilings, walls or hung from high ceilings. The beam angle categorises the lens type used. Chip on boards (COB lights) are used for lights without lens where Led chips are bonded directly onto a substrate to produce greater beam angles.

•Indirect lighting is most commonly used these days. •For outdoor lighting, aluminium dicast is used for the body of the light because it is dust proof. •For indoor lighting aluminium cast is used.

STRIP LIGHT. •LED strip lights are placed inside panels. •Strip lights can be customised in colour. •They can be cut and soldered according to the size required. •For 1 meter of strip 1 ampere power is required. •The more the length of the strip, the more is its ampere.

OUTDOOR LIGHTING. BOLLARDS. Bollard lights are a type of outdoor lighting fixture comprising short, upright ground-mounted units, typically giving off light from the top or the sides, and used to illuminate walkways, steps or pathways.

MURAL AT GLOBAL PATHWAYS SCHOOL. LOCATION: CHETTIPALAYAM COIMBATORE. THE SCHOOL. Theresa and Seth Mersky initiated to start this school for the upliftment of the poor kids around this area. Patrick Thompson and Alexa Hatanaka are the artists from Canada and the founders of The PA System. Alexa graduated in Print Making and joined Patrick and they started out as freelance artists. They have been working on designing the courtyard of this school which is of area 4900sq.ft. One side of the courtyard is being painted and the concepts for the other three sides are proposed.

ABOUT THE PAINTING. •Fluid acrylic paint was diluted in water and it was poured on to the Interlining sheet which was cut into irregular shapes. •To make the different colours blend together, the second colour was poured when the base was wet. •To give

an overlapping look, one colour was poured and it was set to dry over night and the next morning the top coat was poured. • Similarly, to get the number of colours on the sheet, we have to wait for a number of days. •Different colour combinations were used for different modules. •We placed one module on the

wall and traced the outline using

a pencil. •We applied Acrylic gel

on the wall and stuck the module on it.

•This gel

was reapplied on the painting to get the glossy look of being painted directly on the wall. •Once dried, primer coat was given on the borders to hide the pencil marks and gel stains. •It is a three storeyed building and four rows (2 rows between windows and 2 above and below the windows) were stuck. •Fluid acrylic paints were imported from Canada and the

Interlining sheets were imported from Delhi. The primer and acrylic gel was purchased from the local shops in Coimbatore.
