The site for this architecture office is situated sandwiched between the Marari beach and the Vembanad lake, a b o u t 5 k m s fro m e a c h o t h e r. With a total site area of about 5 cents or 40 square meters, the site recieves tropical monsoon during the mid June to mid November and winds are predominantly from the east in the period from November to March and from w e s t i n t h e re s t o f t h e y e a r.

NORTH

North to the site, has the house of the client and the passage i s we st to t h e s i te. T h e re’s a canal running towards east and to the south, a road connecting the National Highway with the village of Muhamma. With medium vegetation in the site, adequate amount of new trees were planted and thus eliminating any kind of artificial air conditioning inside.

Limitations in area of the site is the main reason for the vertical zoning pattern. The most important workstations and main cabins were provided in the middle zone so as they can easily reach both the upper and ground floors. Pantry area is under the Solar Roofing which provided a cost effective method for the pantry section.

The full height brick wall provides with cool interiors during hot times and warmth during winters. Exposed bricks and concrete also increases the aesthetic beauty of the structure. Semi-Open pantry space has unlimited natural air and light access and solar roofing reflects away most of the heat from the i n t e r i o r o f t h e p a n t r y.

The cantilevered structure alongside a narrow road gives a sense of uniqueness with falling creepers from the top. Glass which is framed within the structure gives the viewer a pictersque sight.

The brick facade wall is also exposed inside which in turn provides a cool atmosphere in the summer times and vice versa inside. The framed brick wall which has only a slitted opening adds to the beauty of the landscaping.

The literally floating staircase gives space to breathe for the small lounge below and it is supported by a single MS beam running through its left hand side. Workstations are provided on both floors with more importance to the first floor where the cabins are situated.

Cabin on the west side is for the cheif and the second one acts as a conference cabin for gorups. Both cabins are separated by half galss-wall and can rise the vicinity to a certain extend.
