Our cities are economically, politically, technologically and operationally, main scene of our global world. Beside their key roles, cities face distinctive challenges. Preventing brain migration, giving adequate healthcare services, reducing bureaucratic costs, solving transportation problems, investing communication infrastructure, maintaining effectiveness of water and energy systems, ensuring environmental sustainability are major challenges that cities have to deal.

Smart City and its domains
We can define Smart City as services and infrastructures that are supported by using information and communication technologies. The amalgamation of conventional city services and infrastructures with ICT based technological advancements and applications, smart city operations become more effective, agile, flexible and sustainable. In the transformation process of smartness, cities adopt new technologies to their core systems to maintain effective use of limited resources. Smart city approach can be divided in to 6 core domains that carry smart services. These are smart economy, smart people, smart governance, smart mobility, smart environment and smart living.

Environment & Social Sustainability
THE POPULATION EXPLOSION: Main cause for SMARTER CITIES.
As seen below, the population and the density of Bangalore has increased exponentially with time. The below timeline of 1999, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 expresses the increase in human density per specific area and also the rise in overall population of Bangalore. The Red Regions show the population density. Green represents the green spaces in the city – which has deteriorated with time. Blue represents the water bodies.
World Example
Singapore is one of the leading city that applies ICT strategies and smart policies in urban area extensively. The government set a vision of an Intelligent Island in 1992. IT education, IT infrastructure and IT economy are the three pillars of the Singapore IT strategy. With an iterative master plans, Singapore turned in a hub for international trade, transportation and technology. LOCATION .
SITE LIES IN BMICA: Bangalore – Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Area. •Svetoslav Nikolaevich Roerich (23 October 1904 – 30 January 1993), •Russian and Indian painter, •son of Helena and Nicholas Roerich, •studied from a young age under his father's tutelage. •He studied architecture in England in 1919 and entered Columbia University's school of architecture in 1920. •He won the Grand Prix of the Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1926.
WHY THIS SITE?? •Devika Rani & Svetoslav Roerich are both Architects & Artists. They always dedicated their time in public service . This is my way of paying homage to them for their family and developing a Sustainable City in their land and thereby helping / progressing towards a better future. •Site has been considered as a wasteland for all these years due to litigation issues and finally government has decided to develop the land productively. •GOVERNMENT has decided to develop the 460 Acre land. Although just 100 Acres is the current proposal. •I propose to use the rest of the land to develop a smart city with funding on A GOVERNMENTPRIVATE SECTOR Partnership. •A sense of negativity has developed around the site, which I want to remove, by developing a SMART SUSTAINABLE CITY.

THE ENTIRE ZERO CITY generates more units of electricity than required per day which is more than enough to power the entire city.
•EXCESS POWER SENT BACK TO THE GRID AND GENERATES INCOME:
The excess energy generated by the CITY which is in excess is sent back to the grid and acts as a means of income generation. •Other technologies used: Solar Glass ( Glass with transparent solar cells) Smart Water recycling and harvesting system. Green Roofs to reduce internal environment temperature of the building by upto 50%. Permeable pavers to act as a way of recycling and harvesting waste water. Titanium dioxide coated panels on the façade exoskeleton to purify the surrounding air to provide clean air to the end-users.

PROPOSED SITE:
CITY CENTRE DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE:.

SITE SECTION
•Hebbal is an Assembly Constituency area in Bangalore, Karnataka, India which was once indicative of the north endpoint of the city. • Though originally famous for Hebbal Lake , it is now better known for the serpentine maze of flyovers that network the Outer Ring Road and Bellary Road. • The flyover spans a length of 5.23 kilometers (3.2 mi) over all the loops combined. The flyover was built by Gammon India. • The lake area is well known for the park, the boating facility, and for the bird watching opportunities. •Bangalore has now grown quite a bit towards north, beyond these marks. The commencement of the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) at Devanahalli in 2008 has ensured that Hebbal has become a very important location for the passengers flying out of Bangalore. •All arterial roads and road networks leading to the BIAL intersect at Hebbal. Further, BIAL has its office on the National Highway (NH 7) exit of the Hebbal flyover in Gayathri Lake Front.

CONCEPT (For Shopping Mall): The Shopping cart resembles the function of the building itself, to shop. The exterior would be treated with a wire frame maze to represent the cart and also the slope of the cart, would merge with a green roof upon which one can walk and serve as an ENTRY/EXIT point to different levels of the mall.

PARAMETRIC SHELF: PLAN
The shelf was developed as a part of a proposal for a co-working space in Bangalore for a bold and young start-up. As the design had to cater to the youth and youngsters, the iconic nature of even a product such as a shelf had to be enhanced to attract them and provide a sense of modernism to the space, rather than dropping null and passive furniture to full-fill just the functional aspects of a start-up space. The goal for the project was not just to full-fill the functional requirements but also add a dash of utopianism and organic dynamism to the space. As a process. this developed to be the overall theme of the co-working space.
DETAIL VIEW
This shelf is used by the end-user to place ornamental products or their personal belongings as well. The parametric shelf also provides various views from various perspectives which add to the aesthetic quotient of the space it is inserted into.
The final product was a cohesive product deriving a common theme for the rest of the space as well as adding a modern and organic aesthetic to the blunt functional requirements of the space itself.

S I D E
The furniture was a proposal for a communal seating area inside a coworking space. The idea was to cater to individual needs on a singular level, i.e, bringing formality and informality together into one single furniture. The furniture has two zones: 1) Informal seating/ “Crashing Zone” : Where people can sit and even sleep (crash). 2) Formal Seating: Where people can meet others and engage in conversations.

Proposal for Ministry of Urban Development – SMART CITIES
Transforming the street from Hathi pol junction leading to City Palace into a smart, user-friendly and a concious place, keeping the context intact and maintaining the existing texture. Technology is useful, when used correctly and at the right place, and we use it to derive information and also im- plement the solutions smartly on the street. Enhancing the community lifestyle of the people through incentive based approach and revenue generation.

AREA BASED RETROFITTING
UDAIPUR SMART CITY: Street Design Potentials: Existing segregated typologies aids to area based retrofitting. Narrow streets with mid rise buildings aiding in potential for better shaded walkways in the hot climate. Arid dry and hot climate creates huge potential for renewable energy generation. The time based usage of the street as pedestrian intensive and vehicular intensive usage at different times of the day, helps dividing the functions and managing the traffic flow.
