The swimming pool & the outdoor facilities are protected from the sun and the inner functions are provided with adequate conditions to have a controlled microclimate. Various facilities which are the basic and daily requirements of people are satisfied amidst the residential hub. Architecture : The form and plan of the recreation center is an intermingle of cubes, squares and rectangles. Creating a hierarchy of spaces and zonal division of activities according to the usability patterns. The proximity of activities is fused in this green recreation center to create an interactive public space.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN CONTEMPORIZING HERITAGE ART & CULTURAL CENTER SEM IV

Contemporizing APPROACH

TOWARDS

Heritage

Art & Cultural Center

Sisodia, Jaipur

DESIGN

Concept & Ideologies Rajasthan's rich culture and heritage with its Rajputana history has a lot to share and thus the need of an exchange cultural and art center in the heart of Rajasthan - Jaipur To design a cultural Centre that defines and admires art and culture, appreciate artists and make them feel uplifted of their talents.

Key aspects To design an art and cultural centre that does not challenge the beauty and magnificence of Sisodia palace. It admires and appreciates the beauty and grandness of Sisodia bagh by creating a level of transparency and wont dare to be a heritage in itself. The building will be a contemporary one by using modern day planning and integration of built with the open spaces. Modern day techniques compiled with the heritage details of chajjas, sun- shades, extended balconies to make the building climate responsive. Using contemporary materials and planning principles but blending vernacular details to a little extent.

Project Highlights Total Site Area : Coverage Allowed: Ground Coverage : FAR : ECS : Facilities :

8750 Sq. M. 2200 Sq. M. [ 25 % ] 2200 Sq. M. [ 25 % ] 55 2

Permanent & Temporary Art & Exhibition Display Areas Auditorium, OAT, Sculpture Court, Food Court, Kiosks Residential Hostels with canteen and dinner area Library, Courtyards, Open terraces, Learning Workshops

DESIGN

STRATEGIES

Development of Form : Using the same tiers as the Palace, for more visibility.

Integrating open spaces with built and not making confusing plans like those of heritage structures which were constructed for added security and observation. Focusing more on planning and function rather than building form based ornamental buildings as in monuments to show grandness and power. Building to view Sisodia Palace and keeping a level of transparency, viewing the art of Sisodia standing in the building to appreciate its ornamental beauty and grandness. Keeping in mind the climatic conditions of the City and designing with the vernacular elements of Rajasthan

Rajasthani Elements: Using mere vernacular techniques for ornamentation and creating harmony with the Sisodia Palace. The Window design above also enhance the climatic design by providing a sunshade through the entire day.

SOUTH ELEVATION The site defines ways of an art and cultural center to be constructed within the heart of the palace to make it an extravagant structure of exchange within such a rich culture. The art and cultural center acts as a catalyst to display the culture and traditions and also holds potential to make the Sisodia Palace an important structure within the rich heritage of India.

Art and cultural center develops a level of transparency to increase the visibility without any barriers and amalgamate various facilities and functions within one building. Contemporizing Heritage as the term explains is the modification of the built to have proper planned spaces with amalgamation of the vernacular elements of Rajasthan to balance the ornamentation and grandness of the Palace and not overpower its beauty and magnificence, rather enhance it’s pride and grandness.

SECTION THRU STAIRCASE

With a display of art all over the building, the transparency from the exhibition area to attain day light will allow to remove visual constraints and create an effect of viewing another great art piece.

APPROACH

TOWARDS

DESIGN

Concept & Ideologies The main idea of the project was to keep in mind the lower or weaker sections of the society. The lack of infrastructure leads to formation of slums and destroys the urban environment. The design aim was to develop a higher infrastructure for the ‘urban poor’. The term urban poor does not necessarily mean slum habitants , but people who cannot afford housing in the urban environment. The requirement of design was to create housing for urban poor with infrastructure meeting the basic amenities and also developing community spaces for interaction and better living standards.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN LOMBART MALL COMMERCIAL COMPLEX SEM VI

Lombart APPROACH

Mall TOWARDS

Commercial Complex

Sec - 14, Dwarka, New Delhi

DESIGN

Concept & Ideologies To design a commercial center in the residential hub of Dwarka , along the sub city center spread along the blue line of delhi metro. A site complete in itself with a retail, hotel and office complex. Maximize ground coverage and F.A.R. keeping in mind access to the complex for both vehicles and pedestrians due to nearby metro station.

Key aspects The form of the building is inspired by the ‘ boomerang’ This inspiration enhanced the corner plot giving it a feeling of openess and welcoming The U shaped massing is played with tiers to develop grandness and visibility of the complex. The metro station and the main adjacent road is kept in mind to organize the placement of the blocks which allows movement of the plot and around it. The commercial building is spread across the site to a level of 3 floors and the hotel and office towers upto 8 floors. Thus the form and the function of the building satisfy the site conditions and the requirements of the project.

Project Highlights TOTAL PLOT AREA : 30600 SQ M PLOT FOR HOTEL : 5000 SQ M PLOT FOR COMMERCIAL : 25600 SQ M GROUND COVERAGE @ 25 % : 6400 SQ MTR. GROUND COVERAGE ACHIEVED : 6350 SQ MTR.

DESIGN

STRATEGIES

Massing is done to avoid sun in open spaces and also to gain maximum daylight.

Increased interactive spaces and public areas. Catering vehicular, pedestrian and nearby residential areas. Providing proper view to all. Levels to achieve grandness, and maximize open spaces. Maximize ventilation and cross ventilation.

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN URBAN DESIGN : URBAN WEAVE PEDESTRIAN PRECINCT, BABA KHARAK SINGH MARG, CP, NEW DELHI SEM VII

The rush towards developing the capital city after independence provided the reasons for the unharmonious development of New Delhi. The placement of residential blocks to cater the population, developing market and commercial areas overlooked the future responses of the capital city which now create various issues to be catered on an urban level. The Baba Kharak Singh Marg is a major road connecting various important cultural, religious, historic and commercial buildings which is undermined to a lower potential with low density housing and open barren lands facing it.

Present

PROPOSED BUILDING USE PLAN

MOVEMENT PLAN

The concept includes various aspects to revitalize the area weaving the major activities and integrating new activities like museums, art galleries, restaurants, OATs, crafts and handicrafts emporiums, spiritual center and catering informal activity with the landscape. The road is converted to a pedestrian street with negligible vehicular movement and the traffic is diverted to a newly developed road network in lieu to the existing conflicts. The vehicular movement is thus diverted to Sansad Marg and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg to ensure the importance of historic structures like Jantar Mantar & Gole Market. Return to Nature : Green spaces will be a large part of the design thereby changing the microclimate of the area and make the area a comfortable experience. Branching Urban Promenade: various branches included in the overall landscape to cater to all the important areas of the street. Craft areas with workshops and informal activities. The entire street will witness a new development catering to the handicraft emporiums and blending it with the already existing blocks ( Rajiv Gandhi Emporium ) for craft workshops and galleries. The branches will be on various levels to focus view on the major areas like Hanuman Mandir ( religious ) and divert major non formal activity integrating it with the landscaped and soft scaped areas
