Local Politicians Urging Government to Improve Canggu Tourism Facilities

No: 008, 03 Mar - 10 Mar 2017

Bali’s Canggu area is getting more and more popular with international and domestic tour- ist alike. But local politicians are pointing out that the tourism facilities in the area are still inadequate the Seminyak Times reported.. Badung Regional Representa- tive (DPRD), Gede Aryanta, told

nusabali.com on Friday that there are now many tourists coming to Canggu and along with this change many hotels, restaurants, bars and night ven- ues have been build in the area. Unfortunately, the supporting facilities, such as street lights, are still in a disastrous condition leaving some areas pitch black at night. “The tourists like to walk to the beach, even at night time, but the street lights are inadequate in several areas. The road in some parts are narrow and broken, which often causes traffic jams,” he said. He asked the

No: 97, 16 Nov - 23 Nov 2018 government to pay atten- tion to these conditions and also to address the increasing criminal activity in the area. “The government has to man- age all of this, starting from the beach, additional street lights and a guarantee of security for the visiting tourists,” he added. Meanwhile, the Head of Badung Tourism Board, I Made Badra, said, as quoted by the Seminyak Times, that his de- partment already has a plan drawn to manage the tourism infrastructure at Canggu and Berawa beach areas and the Badung Public Works and Spa- tial Planning (PUPR) Board has studied the plan, too. So, the realization will only be a matter of time. (SW)

4 THE CANGGU WEEKLY NEW IN THE GU: INK BALI LWhat do you think of when you hear the words “comfort food”? Our guess is it’s probably not sushi.. but hang with us a minute, because all that’s about to change. Comfort food isn’t just a term coined by starving millennial vegans to describe basically anything that isn’t in a rabbit’s diet. It’s so much more. Comfort food gives you all the feels. It’s food with a nostalgic value that whisks you away to another time or place; your childhood, that family holiday in the snowfields, or your favourite takeout joint back home. One of the buzziest new food trends taking over the globe is fusion comfort food, and the hottest new spot in Canggu dishing it up? Ink Bali. Western comfort food faves like cheeseburgers and fried chicken meet Japanese flavours and traditional cooking methods at Ink Bali. I mean, nothing says comfort food like zingy popcorn chicken, and cheeseburgerstuffed spring rolls (AMIRIGHT?!?). It’s crazy, it’s different and they’ve totally PULLED. IT. OFF! Wash their daring creations down with a cherry soda or a lychee martini, and you’re straight back in your Japanese comfort zone. Not feeling so adventurous tonight? Don’t freak out. You’ll still find all your Japanese go-tos on the menu.

Branded the new neighbourhood Japanese joint, Ink Bali is a throwback to your fave sushi bar back home. Get all kindsa sentimental over their sushi rolls; choosing from their single ingredient maki like tuna, salmon, crab or cucumber/avo for the aforementioned veggos among us. Level up with a combination roll like spicy salmon, or tuna avocado, or take your sushi game even further with a special roll loaded with iconic mashups like shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avo, jalapeno, unagi sauce and spicy aioli (hold onto your seats crew!). If you’re a member of team #riceislife, get to know Ink’s Donburi line-up. Rice bowls topped with teriyaki chicken, tempura, or our fave – the crispy pork katsu.. is don, is good. If you’ve gathered a little Gu crew for your evening meal, tuck into Ink’s share plates of gyoza, agedashi tofu, miso butterish, and sticky braised pork belly (drool). Get it? Ink Bali is comfort food reimagined for lovers of Japanese, fused with crowd-pleasing Japanese food for the masses. The Canggu expat scene is a melting pot of cultures, mixed marriages and

social groups, so it really comes as no great shock that a concept so flavourfully diverse has been cooked up in our hood. Levelled up enough for date night, while still being chill enough for an erryday kinda quick feed, Ink Bali is an all-welcoming hangout with some serious interiors-on-fleek. Find Ink’s indigo stained walls right by Tamora Gallery’s new kids playground, and pop in for a post-playtime dinner with the fam. Snap a selfie against their character-filled wall mural, as you rub shoulders with Vanilla Ice, Astro Boy, or a surfing sumo.
