Fail to Preserve Bateq Cultural Heritage

Lost Of Bateq Language

Younger generation cannot speak the proper Bateq language as they were influenced by the Malay language which makes them hard to communicate with the older generation and art and craft of Bateq hardly get passed down to the young one.

Lost Touch with their Indigenous Nature

The Bateq people are more involved in Ecotourism and making business with the Malays. Thus, caused obstruction to their nomadic lifestyle and their hunting and gathering activities.

Showcase the art and craft of Bateq Tribe is dying due to the current globalization. The Ipoh tree which is the main source of food and hunting tools show the contrast between the past and present of the art and craft of Bateq Tribe. In the past, the Bateq people respect their art of carving, the art of making blowpipes and weaving. But at present, their art lost its authenticity and identity as the most sacred teasure. No speciality can represent the Bateq Tribe just like the wilting tree branches

The intention is to create a space based on the concept of fusion of modern art and traditional art to create a new form of art with the collaboration of different ideologies and creativities from Artisan, Designer and Bateq people The space allowing people to learn the art of carving using bamboo and express their own creativity to help preserve the Bateq art and craft.

This project located at Puchong where the client requested to fully renovate the whole house as their retirement home. This house was abandoned for almost 10 years and most of the structure were damaged by termites.

This project located at SM(P) Sin Min, Sungai Petani. This project was a collaboration between AATA x UCSI Colllab and Sin Min school to build a Dragon Entrance structure at the school hall. The structure was fully build by our team and students.

This competition was organized by PAM to allow designer to established an idea of an urban bicycle pavilion that act as a prototype, rest-shop for cycling enthusiast, and attention grabbing urban element. Steel is the primary material in this design.
