PROGRAM OF STUDY

Interior Architecture and Product Design IAPD or Interior Architecture and Product Design is a comprehensive field of design. Comprosed primarilly of interior design and furniture design, IAPD fuses multiple scales of architectural design. IAPD thrives under the fact that design is problem solving, and any scale of issue can be combatted with design thinking. Prototyping and collaboration are also two key componants to a healthy design process. The IAPD program at Kansas State University produces designers who can make a place for themselves at any point in the design process.

SHIFLET + WETTER

Corporate Office Design The Shiflet Wetter law firm was a 60,000 square foot office space, located in historic downtown Nashville. Drawing on the culture of this area and juxtaposing the historic architecture with modern office interiors, this project created a unique design aesthetic. With a detailed program, space planning was paramount to the design of this space. Custom furniture pieces were incorporated to create a unified interior environment. 60,000 SQFT of office space provides the firm with a variety of spaces to work productively, by challenging the norm of “on-the-glass� office design, all employees begin to own these valuable places in the form of circulation

REV

Seating Design The Rev chair was conceived to provide an elegant seating solution to virtually any interior environment. By combining a rosewood veneer with black steel legs and a mid-century, modern design aesthetic, this piece could find a home in countless settings. Designed to be quick to make, Rev has no hardware connecting the seat pan and back, this means that they read as one unified piece and that there is no room for mechanical failure in the life of the product. Rev is all about versatility, Rev is the everywhere chair. Rhino

SCAPE

Restaurant and Retail Design Scape is an urban retail space associated with a restaurant on its upper level. Located in a suburb of Chicago, Scape offers a unique combination of products associated with urban hiking and other outdoor activities common in highly populated urban areas, where the wild outdoors is not readily accessible. This includes hiking, biking, running, and jogging to name a few. On a mezzanine level, Brick Pizza offers a selection of flat bread pizzas for the health conscious shopper on the move. Fitting the aesthetic of Scape, Brick incorporated raw materials into the space. Revit

K13

Seating Design K13 is a contemporary seating design that brings a historically significant piece into the 21st century. The Ancient Greek Klismos is arguably the most significant and revolutionary chair design ever. It can be considered the first ever attempt to satisfy the human form and ergonomics. Considering the root concepts of the Klismos, with contemporary design and construction technology, K13 imagines this ancient design today. Utilizing the historic technique of steam bending with the more relevant technology of coplanar bending, K13 remains true to the ancient aesthetic, but can be seen in today’s interior environments. IL MARMO

Museum Architecture and Design Il Marmo, or “The Marble,” is an Italian Art Museum located adjacent to St. Peter’s Square in Rome, and was designed in collaboration with architecture students Dan Carter and Dain Sussman. Conceived as an extension to the Vatican Museum of Art, Il Marmo would house a permanent exhibit of the work of Bernini. To symbolize the ascending journey that art can take the soul on, the museum is made up of a series of rising marble blocks. Into each block, much like the sculptures inside, spaces are carved to strategically reveal the artwork on display. On top, the museum opens to reveal a never before seen view of the Vatican and a closer look at the aints atop the colonnade. Collaboration | Hand Sketching | Hand Drafting | Hand Rendering

KESSLER PARK VISION PLAN

Urban Design and Landscape Architecture The Kansas City Design Center is a K-State Architecture Studio located in downtown Kansas City. The Kessler Park Vision Plan was developed in collaboration with urban design studio. Located in the northeast of Kansas City, Kessler Park has developed a reputation for being unsafe, and unattractive to the rapidly growing young population in KC. After riggorous analysis and collaboration this Vision Plan manifested the potential for the historic Kessler Park. Collaboration

The Western Gate serves as the formal connection between the park and the city, through urban revitalization this gate now engages the public and combats the current inviability of the park

The Knoll is the hilled area surrounding the abandoned reservoir in the park, this became the core community space

The Front Porch is presently one of the most popular spaces int he park, with the addition of more traditional park amenities, it will become a city-wide gathering and event space

The Vision for the park involved revitalizing each of the zones within the park, while connecting the park to the greater downtown area. Three “priority-zones” served as focal points withing the larger experience of the park. New amenities and an invigorated fringe, called “zipper” gave the park a new life.

Views to the city, both to the north and south, became key design considerations, and providing view points in each of the three “priorityzones” was a must


Adventure Sports attract many visitors to Kessler Park and programming for each of the most popular sports was a key part of the vision plan

Humanitarian Architecture and Interiors The problem of habitual poverty in the developing world creates barriers for organized education. With access to education viewed as a basic human right in parts of the world, academic settings serve as not just a learning environment but also as spaces for positive activities and community involvement. Unfortunately developing countries, specifically Nicaragua, lack the resources to fully support educational needs including well-designed facilitates to create an environment for learning, resulting in less than half of primary age students finishing school. Insufficient school buildings and classrooms make school attendance even less of a priority for students. In today’s fast growing world of technology and innovation we must adapt to foster the educational growth of the leaders of the future.

Collaboration has and will continue to be a cornerstone of this project. Amigos for Christ, a non-profit organization, working in rural Nicaragua, has been a leader of service and humanitarian efforts for years. Working with Amigos, will allow this project to realized as quickly as possible. In addition Glen Jarrett, a graduate student in landscape architecture at K-State, has been researching alternative playground design, with the intention of designing a natural playscape for the model school.

The Idea of The Model School was presented by Amigos for Christ. Using the community of La Chuscada as a catalyst, the Model School design will be considered a prototype of sorts, which could, with minimal changes be built and applied to multiple communities in the future. The model school will take its place in the regular sequence of Amigos building projects in any given community, with the foundation of a water system, healthy kitchens, clean bathrooms, a feeding center, health center, and eventually the Model School.

Interior Architecture Internship - KC, MO The practice of sports architecture and interiors involves very large teams of dedicated professionals to see a project to completion. At Populous I was able to play a vital role on two university athletic projects. For the University of Oklahoma, I assisted with a 100% DD package, drawing details and assisting in the creation of ID pages. I spent the majority of my time with the Texas A&M team, working on the premium spaces, especially the founders suites. Whether putting out a full furniture specification package, or discussing finish options, I was grateful to be a member of a talented team of designers.

Interior Architecture Internship - Dallas, TX As a team member of the corporate interiors studio I participated in the design and development of large scale interiors projects. Specifically test fits and space planning for a multi-office law firm. I also worked on design development and field verification for the State Farm HQ in Northern Texas. Field verifying gave me throughout experience with design documentation and record keeping, as well as a better understanding of the design-to-build mentality. I was also part of the design team for the interiors of the new space, spending most of my time in Revit space planning, picking up red-lines, and participating in design discussions.
