ORPHEUS

Wedged between rocks on the desolate shore His empty throat spoke with the tongue of gods His voice that living charmed a world of stones Now prophesied to man that he must die Living love came and took away his heart And songs unheard by men before were sung But death would not be mocked and took his love And left him heart for mortal things alone Returning from the depths of the abyss He turning looked into his own grim eyes And calling saw himself step back and go And after that he wandered as the winds Scattered his flesh and buried what was left His stony voice echoing on the waves
