SWORDS VS SORCERY
Robert E. Howard first introduced readers to the character Bêlit in Weird Tales #23 in May 1934 and Valeria in Weird Tales #28 in July 1936. In creating these two heroines, he established the template for strong, independent female protagonists who carried out their own agenda equal to any male counterpart. The world that these heroines occupied was further embellished in his essay “The Hyborian Age” published in The Phantagraph, February 1936.
