“Elle” is an unusual heroine. She is born... Kid Toussaint: So, Elle was born from listening to two songs, “Léa” by Louise Attaque and “She’s A Rainbow” by the Rolling Stones. But also from my own adolescence, from the many questions that crossed my mind, and which are, in fact, universal. Aveline Stokart: She was born from the look. In this story, the heroine’s different personalities had to be easily identi essential that her big face be expressive because it was through this that we were going to communicate the most. The hair was also determinant in the construction of Elle. It can have as many acting skills as the character itself.
Adolescence is a rather vast and complex subject, why this choice?
K.T.: When I realized that I had lost my fan attitude towards reading, I wanted to get closer to the period when it had been the most fruitful. In my opinion, teenagers read better than adults, they have a passionate relationship with reading. A.S.: When Kid introduced me to the project, he highlighted the range of emotions specific to the heroine and her age. At that moment, I precisely wanted a project that speaks of introspection, of selfawareness. I wanted to highlight the way in which one can feel a little special or different compared to others, compared to the norm. Suddenly, this project was really timely. I guess we are sensitive to stories that resonate with us, and that we can identify with.
K.T.: Rather obvious! Aveline has a unique style, with influences from American and Japanese animation, it’s a style that is not usual for comics. It forced me not to stay in my recurring tics, to write a story that is not classic, for a new type of comics. I’m rather talkative, I also had to change my way of writing the dialogue in order to leave as much room as possible for the art. Because, above all, we want to see Aveline draw.
A.S.: We indeed had to make compromises to and I think we didn’t come out too badly! I had never imagined doing comics...because I have rarely been sensitive to it, to tell the truth, from a graphic point of view. I don’t have contour lines, I play with the
eld, I use cinema codes. But I managed to and create my own landmarks in order to appropriate this new medium. The fact that Kid trusted me completely also helped me a lot.
We don’t always realize it, but artists give so much of themselves so that their characters are as close as possible to reality. Including Aveline.

Clown on duty, Violet is all about humor and mischief. She is outgoing and absolutely not afraid to express herself in public. On the other hand, carelessness works against here, she cares little about her surroundings and is not always aware of danger.

Green is mute, and surprisingly discreet. This allows her to take a step back before acting instead of rushing headlong. She reacts with balance and thinks before making decisions. She is the protective personality, the one who feels the needs to defend others.
Arrogant and sure of herself, Blondie is the competitive part of Elle’s personality. Certainly strong, she is also overwhelming. Aggression and mockery are commonplace in her exchanges with others, but she goes after what she has undertaken brilliantly.
