The ABLForum was attended by senior ministers, business leaders and policymakers from the participating constituencies of the Gulf, India and South-East Asia and featured panel discussions on industry, infrastructure and energy. Expert panellists delved into a fascinating analysis of industry, finance and government in Asian economies; public-private partnerships in infrastructure; and Asia’s unique energy story bringing illuminating insights to each topic of discussion. The highlight of the Knowledge Congress was that all the 18 panellists across the three sessions reiterated and emphasised the value of education in building capacity and its impact on industry, and most importantly, the need for timely investment in Asia’s human capital through vocational training and education.

“Nuclear is a long-term sustainable strategy to de-risk ourselves from the reliability and security concerns of oil and gas.”

“I can positively say that education, and particularly higher education, will be the driving factor in the next wave of growth in the industry and commerce sectors of this region.”

“The three pillars – access to a market, low operating costs, and ease of doing business – are key fundamentals and ones that we can deliver in Asia, in a growing population.”

“Capacity building is extremely important; we have a large young population, but if they are not going to be trained properly, then they are not going to be able to contribute to the economy, to the country. At industry level, our responsibility is to bring these together.”

“Besides being impacted by various international issues, the Indian growth story has been heavily impacted by several domestic factors; a crucial one being the requirement for better and improved infrastructure.”

"Nuclear energy is neither a boon nor a bane. Governments and industries involved must work towards developing stronger safety mechanisms so we can use nuclear energy as a safe source of energy in the future."

“The speed of reform has to be equivalent to the addition to the labour force. If the people added to the labour force every year don’t get employed, it clearly causes social issues in the economy; I think that becomes the key driver for policy initiatives.”

“How the risk is apportioned and who bears which risk is the challenge of any PPP, be it in infrastructure or telecommunications.”

“We have to find a way where people can come together and figure out a framework in which the execution challenges are minimised and therefore the risk reward equation for the private sector is more balanced in order to get infrastructure development expedited in the country.”

MANAGING PARTNER AND CEO, IDFC, INDIA

“We should be looking at the true cost of energy. So true cost in all aspects — the cost of funding, the cost of financing, the cost of pollution — the true cost where the subsidy lies across the whole industry.”

The ABLF Awards

The Leadership Recognition Platform The ABLF Awards, a premier, integrity-led recognition platform focuses on acknowledging the intellectual capital of inspirational Asian leaders across the globe. It showcases leaders whose entrepreneurial brilliance is second only to their sense of responsibility and accountability towards the communities, countries and the global markets that they live and work within. The ABLF Awards Grand Ceremony celebrates towering examples of principle-centred sustainable leadership. It recognises excellence, innovation, good governance and best business practices, and brings together the regions' finest leaders, whose achievements, have ensured that this century truly belongs to Asia.

The Global Nomination Portal For the first time in the business awards industry, the Award Nominees and Recipients are determined not by a single institution with its tributary associations and allegiances, but through a global nomination portal and vetted by a group of independent personalities, across the knowledge wells of industry, finance, advisories, media and government. The first step to the ABLF Awards features a dynamic interface at www.‌ablf.‌com, which hosts the ABLF story, the Award nominations and polling process, making it a completely integrated information and activation epicentre. In 2018, the global nomination portal on the ABLF Awards website opens mid-year and through traditional and new media activation, receives thousands of nominations from across the world in categories that are announced annually.

The Grand Jury The ABLF Grand Jury comprises a high-profile consortium of leaders from Asia, each leader representing an opinion of the highest integrity and vision. The ABLF Grand Jury is keenly aware of its responsibilities and uses its power wisely to elect a winner in each category, a winner who represents Asian excellence in Business. The ABLF Strategic Advisory Panel – a core faction of industry experts, economic commentators and international leaders from government, business, academia, advisory and other professional disciplines, recommends and elects the ABLF Grand Jury every year. Leveraging its wealth of multidisciplinary expertise and industry knowledge, the ABLF Grand Jury (assisted by the ABLF Analysts and Strategic Partners) studies, deliberates and selects outstanding individuals from Asia, whose organic success rises from a deep commitment to excellence, governance and fine business practices, and is inextricably linked to the prosperity of the entire region.
