Opens his first Chicago boutique to a minimalist spring 2010 runway show and diamond encrusted Moet bottles November 4, 2009

Michael Kors Himself

was in town to open his first Chicago boutique in the 900 N. Michigan building, and he threw a pretty good party to kick things off. From the diamond encrusted champagne bottles to the full production Spring 2010 runway show the night was high energy. The spring 2010 runway featured a minimalist collection in simple shapes. Zippers in diagonal lines crisscrossed dresses and cutaway triangles revealed angles of skin. The powerful shoulders and cinched waists were classic Kors, while the Easter egg palette of powder blue, turquoise, lavender and mint green balanced crisp whites, gentle creams and the occasional black. Overzealousness, however, may have crept in Kors’ clear plastic midriff cutouts that were a bit too Miami and ostentatious. Overall the Kors look for spring is classic in silhouette and shape and modest in hemlengths and necklines. —Kari Skaflen

While the collection is resplendent in its simplicity and restraint, a Kors opening party, thankfully, is anything but.
