What I love most is the intimacy of the photos in these pages. Personal, private emotions are captured in a very public space in front of a very large and important audience. Moments on and off the runway show unexpected vulnerability, triumphant joy and haughty confidence – above all a humanity seeps through the fashion’s impenetrable walls in these photographs. Yet, the entrancing, mystical beauty of fashion is never compromised. It takes a certain person to identify, connect with and capture moments such as these. Working with Mikey Pozarik and Quavondo was akin to winning the lottery; and I feel privileged beyond word to share the work through Above The Fray. The photos in this magazine are the photographers’ favorite images. Enjoy.

There is a mystery about Fashion Week that you can feel, in a small way by watching coverage, reading stories and looking at photos. Stepping behind the curtain for the first time to realize that backstage is insanity, the models are so young, the clothes are different backstage and the designers are human should take away some of the magic. Waiting in line, standing for hours...none of it matters. The mystery of the experience is still so pungent. The cast of characters is expected, and unpredictable. Fashion Week is that hip girl in your math class that you are dying to figure out, but know you never will. Welcome to our vision of Fashion Week – gilded, caged and still so effortless. The photographs that Mikey and Quavondo took are honest and true. I loved it, I do love it and I’m holding my breath until September.
