Welcome to our Spring 2025 list, from the team at Magic Cat.
It’s five years since our very first book, Slow Down, was published, and what a journey it has been. From a launch list of five books and a team of five staff members, we’ve come a long way – all thanks to you, the fantastic booksellers who put our books in the hands of readers.
We now have a remarkable frontlist of more than 50 new titles planned for 2025, and our team has grown to over 25 members, all dedicated to creating the most innovative and beautiful children’s books on the market.
Our progress hasn’t gone unnoticed. This year, we were thrilled to be crowned Children’s Publisher and Independent Publisher of the Year at the IPAs, as well as Small Press of the Year at the Bookseller Nibbies. But our story is just getting started. . .
So, dive into our catalogue and embark on a growing adventure with one of the world’s favourite gardeners, Frances Tophill, in her debut children’s book. Discover a beautiful picture book by one of the UK’s greatest poets, the late Benjamin Zephaniah – a heartfelt love letter to nature. Return to the enchanting world of Brown Bear Wood as Freya Hartas’s beloved trilogy concludes. And celebrate Pride with an anthology curated by Carnegie-nominated author Simon James Green, featuring heartwarming contributions from the likes of Tom Daley and Miriam Margolyes.
From football to fairies to fossils, we have something for book lovers everywhere.

At the back of a perfectly ordinary house, in a perfectly ordinary neighbourhood, is a garden that is anything but ordinary.
For in that garden, Love Grows ...
The garden is the PRIDE and JOY of the elderly couple who live there, Stan and Mabel.
When Mabel has to go to hospital for a long period, Stan loses heart and the garden becomes neglected. It feels like the love has gone, but luckily, all the animals who live in the garden (and have enjoyed it for so long) join together to make it beautiful once again.
In the spring, when everything is in full bloom, Mabel gets better and comes home.

Praise for The Little Book of Words That Matter
“A rich glossary to help deepen children’s perspectives on themselves and the world” -Kirkus
Love is all around the world. You can find it everywhere.
Journey around the world in this beautiful exploration of language that invites little learners into the many wonderful ways to say, share and show love.

Hawaiian
In the Hawaiian language, people who love one another say, Aloha au iā 'oe.
Hawaiian is spoken in the Hawaiian islands in the Pacific. The Hawaiian alphabet has 13 letters: A, E, H, I, K, L, M, N, O, P, U, W and the 'okina (')
In Hawaii, some people will give a lei – a garland often made from fresh flowers – to a loved one to show affection.
You can make a lei for someone you love.
Cut flowers out of coloured paper or foam.
Spanish
To declare your love for someone in Spanish takes just two words: Te Amo.
Spanish is the official language of 20 countries, and originated from Latin, the language of the Romans. Because of this, Spanish is called a Romance language.
Punch a hole in the middle of each one.
String your flowers onto a piece of string separating each one with a bead or small piece of paper straw.
What else can you make for someone you love?
Sharing a hug with a loved one is warm and cozy – like an Empanada, a yummy snack that originated in Galicia, Spain.
The word empananr means 'to wrap in bread', and a Galician empanada is made as one large pie, cut into smaller pieces to serve.
What filling would you like to have in your empanada? In Galicia, often the youngest guests get first pick!

my grandad said to me. “Be nice to mice, is my advice,”
One day, a little boy asks his grandad how he can be happy like him. His grandad tells him it’s all about being nice to creatures big and small. “Don’t jeer at deer,” or “throw socks at a fox” or “squawk at a hawk.” As the book continues, his instructions get more and more outlandish, from “Don’t dance a jig on a pig” to “don’t put goats in a boat” and even “don’t iron a lion”!
