COVER STORY:
While we were walking towards this spot this lady saw us and went: “This is an abandoned place seized from the Mafia, it’s been there forever and nobody has done anything with it yet”. My answer was: “No worries lady, that’s why we are here! We are gonna do something really interesting with it”. The place even if it looks brand new it’s really abandoned and it’s got a 10 stairs handrail inside the building. After walked the fence and tried the run up for about 20 minutes Jacopo landed this perfect feeble grind right away! Yess! a brief glance

Jerome Campbell I have know Jerome for a long time now. One of my first memories of him is when Sumo skate store was still open in Sheffield. A few of us were stood around when Jerome came in with a rabbit in his backpack. I still ask Jerome about that rabbit to this day as I was concerned for it’s well being but he insists it was well looked after. Now Jerome is more likely to have a camera in his backpack rather than a rabbit. He has been doing a lot of traveling which is perfect for both his photography and his skateboarding which give him a healthy balance. I am sure you will see more of Jerome for years to come with both his skating and his photos. Enjoy. Marc Baines.

BS SMITH. a brief glance
What actually happened to the rabbit from the backpack? That is this story of you goin’ into a skateshop in Sheffield with a rabbit in your backpack? That is actually true at the time it seemed like a really good idea, basically the guy that owned it was going to get rid of it and I was like no way I’ll take that shit, but the only carrying device I had was a back pack ha ha ha seems stupid right now. Ha ha ha… Wassup Jerome, are you back from Barcelona? Yeah, just got back it’s nice and cold, perfect, I think am over planes and trains. What were you there for? Basically it was the second part of an advert campaign for Carhartt clothing, had a lot of fun out there, met some cool dudes and climbed some hills you know how it is ha ha. Do you you feel at ease in front of the camera posing for photos? I don’t feel comfortable at all, I don’t know were to look and as for posing ha ha I haven’t got a clue about what to do, my poses are all the same, I guess that could be my thing ha ha. Before Barcelona you spent a week in Sicily with Nike SB Italy, coming straight from the first Carhartt shooting in Barca… and before all that you were on tour in Ecuador with Blueprint. Seems like you had a busy winter or you just have been hating on Sheffield lately? Ah ha ha. No no I really love Sheffield it’s a really rad place I admit the weather sucks but the scene is rad, saying that tho I do like to escape to warmer climates especially over winter. I have been trying to keep as busy as I can, gotta keep moving. What makes Sheffield better than everywhere else in the UK? Not just the UK perhaps the world ha ha I don’t know its just my home, my family my girlfriend and friends are here thats why its the best, its nice to leave but its nicer to come home if you get me. ‘You said you just moved into a new house after living for a long time with Baines. Yeah actually right now while writing this am surrounded by boxes getting ready for a second move too a new place, am excited its near to parks and the centre so it should be rad. Was fun to move all your stuff out? Ha ha moving is fun but carrying that shit is the worst, my arms are not ready. How was the trip to Sicily? Why were you there? Sicily was so rad, really enjoyed myself, rad crew and good spots despite the copious amount of huge double sets ha ha but yeah I really had fun. I was on the trip as a guest stow away ha ha. What do you think about the guys of the new Nike SB italian team? You can say anything bad about them… I’ll cover your a brief glance
back 100%, no worries ha ha ha. Who was the craziest one? All those dudes are incredible really amazing skaters and generally nice geezers, the craziest one has to be Luca “Crazy Horse” Doneddu; what is that guy he’s like some sort of cartoon, I really couldn’t figure him out but that makes him so rad he’s constantly cracking jokes (often ones that suck) but he is so cool and he’s a dope skater, mad speed and stunts, what a dude. Watch out for the Crazy Horse !!!! What did impress you the most about Sicily? Was that your first time on the island? Actually no I have been once before for a family wedding, the food man its so good its crazy I didn’t actually come to skate just to eat. I have seen you shooting pictures with a Laica camera. What model is it? Its an M6 one of the older models out now but its my pride and joy. It’s a really good camera. How long have you been into photography? I have been in to photography since i was about 13 and now i cant get enough of it. What do you prefer shooting? Black and white only? Do you print your photos? I really go though stages sometimes i will only shoot black and white then perhaps ill see someones color work and be like wooo that looks so sick so i’ll switch it up, I used to print and develop my stuff whiles I was at uni but stopped when I left i would like to start doing it again perhaps in my cellar that would be dope. Do you like football? I’ve heard you are a Sunderland fan… Why Sunderland? Ha ha ha strangely yes I am a Sunderland fan, I am not actually sure why because they never win but I guess I just like the way they play football its really similar to watching Barcelona ha ha ha. Do you argue with Baines about football? He’s a Sheffield Wednesday fan…. ha ha ha. Not really so much about watching it but when we play we argue ha ha am not sure why, I think were both just competitive. Apart from skateboarding, photography and football what are your interests? I am really interested in design and books not necessarily reading them but there formats and stuff like the cover work. What music do you like to listen to? Tell me the names of 3 bands you are listening to lately… I really listen to anything. Au Revoir Simone, Bell Orchestre, Lords Of The Underground.
What do you think about the craze of social networks we live in today? People seems to spend all their time in front of a computer instead of going out and live the real life. What do you think? Delete that shit, the world is out there. How was the Blueprint tour in Ecuador? Did you get to see any amazing places? Wow yea some crazy stuff, its a really eye opening place there is always something strange and unusual going on, the spots really were sick completely different to european stuff, it was a really rad place, strange food tho.
Are you concerned about the threat of nuclear catastrophe after the earthquake in Japan? Its super gnarly I don’t really know what to think. Plans for the upcoming summer? Just trying to keep busy, there may be plans to return to Sicily with some lads for a short trip but yeah just to keep moving and jumping about the place ha ha. Thanks Jerome. Want to add something? Just a big thank you, cheers from Sheffield.

Nike SB Italy just got a new team so what’s better than a few tours at each of rider’s house with all the crew to present them? Coming from all over Italy we couldn’t ask more to appreciate the local food, beautiful places from each region and of course all the spots everyone would bring us to. Luca Crestani and Luca Duneddu were the only ones left from the old team, they have been on for a few years now and with the addition of Marco Lambertucci, Mauro Caruso and Jacopo Carozzi, Nike SB Italy is got a rad team and during summer 2011 there are going to be 3 tours starting from Sicily, then Milan and the Adriatic cost ending up in the beautiful Sardegna. At Nike they weren’t happy enough so they decided to involve an art team, composed by art director Andrea Caputo and artist InvernoMuto, to develop several textures which would represent graphically the nature and characteristic of each rider.
a brief glance
The first trip was to Sicily; we went to visit our friend Mauro Caruso. He brought us around for a week showing us all his spots, even those places you would be like: “How the hell did you find this place?!?” But he wasn’t being able to bring us to a good typical sicilian restaurant at all. We didn’t even party a single night! Mauro failed badly his mission. Rumors say he is risking to get kicked out from the team for his behavior ha ha ha. A straight week of pure skateboarding going around the island and visiting Siracusa, Catania till Palermo where we met with Helmut from Surf Side shop and all the other locals that brought us around this amazing city showing us all the spots and to a great local restaurant the night. A really good week full of funny moments, good feeling between everyone and sick tricks that were going down every single day. We used the only rainy day to go visit some new places and we went down towards the south cost till Scicli and Modica where we got to buy the best pepper and pistachio chocolate of the world. Nike SB Uk rider Jerome Campbell was with us on tour as special guest for this first trip; Jerome other than be a really stylish skater is a really funny guy and we all were glad to have him with us. Can’t wait for the next mission.

Mauro is tall, almost blond, his skin is super white and he eats very little… he is a fake sicilian!!! Ah ha ha. Actually he has solid roots in Sicily even if he doesn’t look like a typical sicilian guy. Very meticulous and precise in the things he does, he is always striving for perfection and this really helps him to improve. Sometimes he is too strict with himself and his mistakes and when we are at a spot and cannot do a trick he gets paranoid initiating a theater of insults to himself that is too funny. Hey, don’t get me wrong, mister Caruso is a funny guy who loves life and friends. I respect him a lot and I’m pretty sure his dedication to skateboarding will makes his dreams come true. a brief glance

KICKFLIP OVER.
I love shooting spots like this one; the balance and the harmony of the geometric forms and the splendid architecture of this place make the kickflip over the hub almost a second and irrelevant detail. Having a huge tree straight on the landing I bet it wasn’t fun at all for Mauro. a brief glance
FS FEEBLE GRIND. The hardest thing about this spot is the rail going oblique compared to the stairs getting a really weird angle when you jumped on. Mauro had hard time to land this trick and he was getting stressed out by all the people passing by asking him the weirdest question ever, by wind and the rain and, as usually, by his paranoid ghosts! Ha ha ha we love Mauro’s madness. a brief glance
a brief glance
Hey Mauro, as the local of this first tour, since Sicily is your land, were you worried about how things could go? Ha ha yes, I was! I was really stressed out about it at the beginning. I already knew everyone except the boss, Federico, but with a few of them it was the first time on tour. I know everyone had big expectations from Sicily so I was hoping everything could go right and not wrong. I think we all had fun, great trip. Everything worked it out fine and everyone was happy. How did you feel skating with a lot of people spots that you often skate by your self? I think it’s the best. Many times I really want to go skate a spot but I don’t, just because I would be by myself, it’s sad, you don’t get hyped or that motivated to go and try something. When you are out there with people that are going to skate with you, then it’s all different. I get really motivated and hyped and it’s just fun. Why did it get that cold while we were there? I thought it was always hot in Sicily. Ha ha actually it is. We got so unlucky. I couldn’t believe it too. I was like: “What? Where is the sun? Come out”. Right after you guys left it got warm and sunny again. That’s always happens on tour though. Basically every year we only get a few randomly weeks of cold and you guys just choose the best time to come. How is living in Sicily? What’s the everyday life like over there? I would say I like to live down here, it’s a sick place. I mean you have nice weather all year round, the beach, the mountain, night life all the time and everything is way cheeper than the rest of Italy. What can you ask more? I think the only thing that stress me out are the people the live down here; most of the time they suck, especially my age people… so closed minded and stupid. As a skater I would love to come here on tour because of what I said before and because of all the good spots here but living here as a skater suck; too far way from everything, not many skaters, not skateparks, no filmers or photographers, you are basically out here by yourself . What was the best session for you and what tricks did impress you the most and didn’t think someone could do it in your spots? I think the best session was on this rail in Palermo. Marco, Jacopo and me were skating it and we got so hyped. As always Marco killed it first, then Jacopo that got my so hyped that I jumped on it too. Crazy session! Pretty much everyone surprised me with one of their tricks; Doneddu nollie flip was crazy, Jacopo fs noseblunt is “Bobby Puleo statics”! Lambertucci varial heel or first try ollie one foot down that huge gap into the bank, Crestani fs smith on that flat bar is so scary. Jerome bs smith stall is one of the steeziest trick I have ever seen. Wow, what a good trip! What do you think about the new team? What did it make you move from Etnies to Nike SB? I think the new team is a bomb! Really sick team. I already like a brief glance
everyone on it; really nice people, great skaters, everyone is motivated and believe in skateboarding, Nobody is wasting time. I’m stoked to be part of this new project. Etnies was good too. I was getting a great help from Oli Buergin and I have to say he is one of the best person I have ever met. Skateboarding needs people like him… if I made this change is only because I was feeling by myself, I wasn’t in any team and being already by myself down here it was the worst. With Nike SB it’s different; I have a team now, we go on tour together, we call each other and talk about tricks, spots and get hyped. That’s what I need. We all live in Italy and that’s good since we can meet up easily and make plans for tours or just good skate sessions. Nike SB also doesn’t have a real Europe team but we all are at the same level so everyone has the same chances to go on big tours, that’s sick. I really appreciates Oli’s work though. He helped me a lot. Who is the craziest and who impressed you the most on the team? About the craziest I think Luca Duneddu and Lambertucci could fight for it! Both really crazy, both with their own things. I think Lambertucci impressed me the most; he is been around forever now and always killed so hard but even if I always knew how good he was this was the first time I was street skating with him. He is the boss! He is the type of guy you want to have on tour, always ready to skate any spot, always killing it, landing his tricks and gets you so hyped and let’s not forget he is the oldest on the team! We were really hoping every night you would bring us to a typical and good sicilian restaurant instead of going to random places like we did, you had no idea about where to go, what’s your excuse for this? Ha ha you guys just were hating on me so hard. Ha ha it’s not my fault I mean, I’m always with no money and I never go eat at a restaurant. I’m still a Mc Donald kid. I don’t really care about good food. When I want eat something healthy I just eat at home, my mom makes good food so that’s enough. But I didn’t know you guys were high class so next time you come I promise I will be ready for it. I will have a full list of typical places for each day where to go. What about the sicilian skate scene? Thanks to your and someone else perseverance I could say the scene looks like it’s getting bigger and bigger lately…what’s new down there? Yeah yeah that’s for sure. Really really slowly but it’s getting bigger for sure. Always more kids are starting to skate, we got a skatepark here in Catania now, it’s really really small and not that good but at least kids have a place where to go. There is another skatepark about 1 hour and half from here in the center of Sicily, Caltanissetta, that’s bigger but even that one is got a lot of problems, but still it’s something that couldn’t never exist a few years ago. Sicily is got a few different skate shops now too, so that’s good, let’s hope things will go better and better.
This time we also went to Palermo, the capital of Sicily and I got impressed by how beautiful is this city. How often do you go skate there? How is the skate scene on that side of the island? Yeah I’m glad we did. Palermo is sick, we also got good weather, good tricks and good food that day. Perfect. Actually I don’t go too much over there, don’t know why, it’s about 2 and half hour drive, we go there every year for the “go skateboarding day” and pretty much that’s it, except a few more time. People here are not that stoked to get on a car and just go skate, even on the other side on the island, they need to stay closed to their houses, but after this trip I really want to go there more often! So many good spots that I didn’t know about! They got a really cool skate shop with a really cool owner and nice skaters, the skate scene there I think it’s getting bigger too, it’s smaller then ours. Sicily just need to push more.
Do you like the idea of these 3 tours we are doing at every rider’s house? are you ready for the next ones? Yeah i love it, since from this year Nike sb got a new team i think this is the best way to present every rider. I’m really enjoying every part of it, born ready man. can’t wait for the next tours and i really want to go to sardegna, the other island. Never been there and i know it’s crazy over there. Ha you gotta love skateboarding. It’s was a pleasure to come visit you. Do you want to add anything? It was a pleasure to have all you guys down here, hope you really enjoyed and hope I don’t get kicked out of the team for not being able to bring you guys to a damn good restaurant, not even a single day! Ha ha ha I will see you guys on the next tour. Can’t waaaittt.
“I promise, I will be ready for it. I will have a full list of typical places for each day where to go”.

FAKIE TRE FLIP. What’s better, a new trick on a famous spot or a go-to-trick on a never seen before spot? Interesting question. We chose for the first one. This is a classic and famous spot you gotta skate when you go to Sicily. It’s hard to find a never been done trick on that gap but fakie tre flip was one of them and it’s a sick trick too! Damn!

Luca Doneddu
emotional /impetuous
Luca is, together with Crest, the only one left from the old Nike SB team. He is 24 years old and he lives in a fantastic place called Sardegna, the other big island of Italy. The guys have nicknamed him “Crazy Horse”, I don’t know why whether it is because he does lines at an absurd speed or because he screams and acts like a madman when he lands his tricks… Luca is a really nice person, very emotional and very impetuous at the same time and every time I go shoot photos with him he always surprises me with amazing tricks. a brief glance
NOLLIE KICKFLIP. The famous double set of Avola is not easy to skate at all; it’s long and tall enough to feel it in your leg just after a few tries and it’s got a huge flower bed in front of the landing so you need to skate it sideway. When we got to the spot Luca started to skate it by him self without saying anything and he was rolling away from this perfect nollieflip in less than 10 tries! After that he got that “Crazy Horse” nickname since he started to laugh, jump, yell and make crazy moves for his trick. First flip trick nollie that goes down this spot? Luca rules!

FULL SPEED BLUNTSLIDE. Luca Doneddu skates at Mak speed!! That fast that sometime it’s hard to film a line with him. He was smashing for this blunt and it was the first trick of a line. Marco Lambertucci
determinate /impredictable
If someone were to ask me who the most dedicated and determined skateboarder I have ever met is, I would have no doubt; I would say Lambi. He started skating when he was a little kid and has spent most of his life on the board. He is 30 years old now and has a kid, but he is still pushing beyond his limits: what impresses me most is the energy and the motivation he still has when throwing himself down big gaps for hours to land his tricks and pushing teammates to skateboard. a brief glance

OLLIE ONE FOOT. Marco was the first to ollie from the top into the bank around 2003… he was the first to nollie into it too a few years later and he was really closed to be the first to land a flip trick in! This is a killer spot, big gap, steep bank full of holes and really scary. After a 2 hours session and a few hard slams Marco wasn’t feeling it anymore but at the same time he didn’t want to leave his spot without a trick. That’s why before getting into the car he went back and land this ollie one foot first try! Crazy! Marco definitely owns this spot. Seq by Mauro Caruso, good job mate! a brief glance
FS VARIAL HEEL.
After throwing him self down that huge gap into the bank we all thought he was done for the day‌ we were wrong. As soon as we got to this spot he was that hyped that started to skate it again. He knew the spot since he kickflipped it about 10 years ago. This time in less the 20 minutes he landed nollie fs 180 and vary heel. Respect for Lambi.

SWITCH CROOKS.
I had no doubt about who was going to skate this spot first. Lambertucci is always the first to skate the spot and the first to land his trick and then gets everyone else hyped to skate. When he rolled away from this switch crooks it was about 1pm and there were 100 people at least watching him.

Luca Crestani
joyful/flexible
Luca Crestani is one of the best skaters I know, everybody loves him and everytime you get to see him skating you understand how much love and respect he has for skateboarding. He became one of the italian skateboard scene icon after he tuned 25 and he was already killing it for 10 years. The fact he always lived far way from the center of skateboarding maybe penalized him first but at the same time gave him that energy to keep skating, travelling and learning that only a few people have. Luca has always a new trick in the pocket for you, a new funny story to tell and he enjoys skateboarding like no one else. You can’t stop a guy like him! a brief glance

SMITH GRIND.
The first time we went to this spot Luca couldn’t even grind it, it’s not the best to skate a scary spot like this one by yourself, but skating it with Jerome and Jacopo made a big difference for sure. Few tries and Luca had this fs smith on his pocket. Thanks Luca, Jerome and Jacopo.

BS KICKFLIP OVER. This bump is at the end of a steep hill so you can just go down without pushing to skate it and you get really fast, Luca always tries to push more so he wanted to film a line there using this set of stairs on top of the hill. Bs 360 first and then bs flip out of the bump; the real trick wasn’t the bs flip but try to not ends on the bushes right in front of the landing. Crest definitely got a crazy board control. a brief glance

Jacopo Carozzi
unworried/crafty
It’s always a pleasure to see a young skateboarder with such a beautiful style skating and ripping every spot we went to, bringing home a lot of tricks and enjoying every single moment of the day. Jacopo is the youngest of the team, he is 15 years old, he lives in Milan and he has been the last to get on Nike SB. He brought a breath of fresh air on the trip with his smile and his serenity and if I had a team I would have him on, definitely. a brief glance

Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino were two magistrates of the Palace of Justice of Palermo, they took part of the “Pool Antimafia” project, a project created by magistrate Antonio Caponnetto to fight the Mafia around the 80s. The idea of this project was to have everything organized and to share all the news between all the members of the group so if someone would have been killed all the informations he knew wouldn’t die with him. The main success from this “Pool Antimafia” was the Maxiprocesso they did between 1986 and 1987, the biggest trial ever done against the Mafia. This Maxiprocesso happened on a bunker room built on purpose inside the “Ucciardone” prison and about 400 people were investigated. On January 1992, Falcone and Borsellino became the leaders of this project and gave the life imprisonment to many and many criminals. On May the 23rd of the same year, Falcone got murdered inside his car while he was going from the airport to the center of Palermo; a half-ton bomb was placed under the motorway while he was driving through it.

JACOPO CAROZZI, BS SMITH GRIND.
His wife and three body guards died too. Reading all the news about it looks like they used skateboards to put all the explosives under the bridge. This incident caused a big breach of the peace around Italy. On july the 19th, 57 days later the “massacre of via d’Amelio” happened; another bomb was placed under this car in front of Borsellino’s mom house and as soon as they passed by the car exploded killing Borsellino and his 5 body guards. A few days earlier Borsellino was talking about his “convict to death” on this interview; he knew he was going to be the next one to be assassinated since Cosa Nostra and the Mafia doesn’t never forget about their enemies. Borsellino and his body guards names are written with huge letters on the stairs of “Piazza della Memoria” plaza, situated behind the Palace of Justice of Palermo. The plaza is actually a sick skate spot, police let you skate and I think it’s the best way to keep the plaza and the memory of all the Mafia’s victims alive. If you ever happen to pass by pay homage to those names. a brief glance

with new eyes
Sometimes it happens that you come back to an old skate spot you used to shred back in the days and review it later with new eyes. The spot has been there for years, you always knew it was there, but for some obscure reasons you never go back, then, suddenly, one day you have a flashback and return to the place with your buddies and start doing tricks at the old spot. More or less the story has gone like that. The church of San Giorgio, which gives its name to the area, was built in 1044 AD and renovated around 1440, while the terrace where the spot is ,was built in the late 30’s along the Adige river. San G is one of the oldest skate spots in Verona, skateboarders used to go there back in the 70’s then in the late 80’s was the haunt of addicts, smelly cats and of course skateboarders. We used to skate some curbs and wooden benches that no longer exist, occasionally we hit the little steep bank but since the run up was always messed up they were always very short sessions. The curb on the ledge that ended in the bank had never attracted our attention that much. The place is behind a famous manny pad spot Luca Puig skated in the Lakai video Fully Flared. One day Riccardo, Lakai/DVS Italy team manager, passing near by, noticed the spot, got inspired and brought together the team forcing them to skate it. “Forced them” because the landing was so rough that no one was too happy to shred the new/old spot. Ha ha ha. In fact everyone took at least 3 really hard slams popping the tricks out into the steep bank… but, you know, if you don’t slam hard you don’t skate for real.

RICCARDO COMINI / FS BLUNTSLIDE TO FAKIE. Ricky had already skated this spot, we used to ride the bank in the early nineties. Twenty years later he is still pushing and he was the first to bring home a trick at San G bank. Belive me, landing fakie into this ground is not what you dream of when you go out skateboarding.

Driving for 480 km and land a 3 meters long switch bluntslide into a steep, short and rough bank in less than 8 tries is worth a double page spread photo for Ale.

MIRKO OBKIRCHER / BS TAILSLIDE.
After a day around the city shooting photos for his upcoming interview we reached the rest of the team at the spot. Being already warmed up Mirko landed a clean bs tailslide first try. Naaa, he actually slammed so hard on the ground he was about to say “Ciao” to everybody and left. That’s what he actually did since he had to catch a train to get back home, not before landing his clean bs tailslide. Danke Mirk.

MATTEO LAVARINI / BLUNTSLIDE.
This spot is on a terrace close to the river, there are benches and trees and a very nice view of the city. It’s a romantic place. Teo lives pretty close to the place and when he was younger he used to go there with all the nicest leadies of his school... Years later he still goes there, but with a bunch of crazy friends trying to kill themselves on board of their skateboards. Oh, the good old days... ha ha ha.

ANGELO KNOWS HOW TO POP TRICKS!
a brief glance
What’s up Angelo, I just saw your part in the latest Strange video, are you hyped on it? I’m hyped on it even if I wish I had more footage…a few tricks got lost or forgotten in random hard disks, I also hurt my knee right before the deadline so I didn’t have the chance to film my last tricks. I will make it for the next video. What trick do you prefer the most and which one took you longer to land it? I think the 50-50 grind kickflip out is one of them; I was really stressing out because of all the cars on the street, they would go so fast that I was scared! Also the cabflip into the red bricks bank is one of my favorite trick. I like the situation that was around us that day and I like it even because it’s a complete trick: your body turns 360 and the board too. What are you up to these days? I have been drawing and tattooing a lot lately. I have been realizing that my whole life will be around tattoos and skateboarding. I also just got done with physiotherapy for my knee…I’m going to be back skating in a month, can’t wait. I heard you just have had a knee surgery… what happened there? Last summer I was in Berlin and one night we walked all night long because we got lost and couldn’t fine the hotel, at one point I did a weird movement with my knee and I broke my ligament.
How many tattoos do you have right now? Ha ha ha when people ask me this question I usually say: “Not too many yet”. When did you get your first tattoo? It was when I got my first pro model for Strange skateboard; basically I got a tattoo with the same graphic of my board, it was a dead mouse on the street full of blood and broken bones and a bottle of wine between his legs. When did you start to tattooing and how did you get involve with this world? Since I was a little kid I would look people’s arms full of tattoos and I would be like: “Oh one day I’m gonna have tattoos and piercing”. I would dream about it! A few years ago after a trip to Washington DC I had the idea to start to try to tattoo and at the same time Nicola from Strange skateboard was starting too so it all started from there, about a year and half ago. How many people did you tattoo so far? About 40 people. A few of them got more then one. Usually the first tattoos are not the best ones! Who was that brave to get first in your hands? Ah ha ha. Ha ha you are right. Actually the first tattoo on someone else didn’t turn out that bad! I need to thanks this friend of mine. Actually the really first tattoos I did, I did them on myself, on my left leg, and yes, they are so ugly. But at the same time I loved them since they represent an important change of my life.
Since you can’t skate, how do you see skateboarding from the “outside”? Do you think when you will get back on the board your skateboarding and your approach to it is going to change? Watching other people skating when you can’t is the worst part. I get really sad about it. I hope I’m going to have a great skateboard summer though. I know it won’t be that easy to start again since you are really scared about your knee, but it’s not the first time that I get hurt so I’m kind of ready for it. When I think about Fabio Montagner that last year had my same problem and now he is ripping so hard makes me hyped and positive though.
Did it ever happen to you to think: “Oh my God what the hell I’ve done?!?” after getting done with a tattoo? Oh yeah, it happened! I think it happens to everyone. Even a simple straight line is not that easy! It’s easy to make mistakes if you don’t have anyone that teach you the right way to tattoo, so yeah it happened to me but nothing really that bad.
Generally in skateboarding nobody thinks about doing any kind of physical preparation, do you think it’s good or it would help to skate better or to avoid to get hurt? I think it’s always better for you and your body if you prepare your self with some stretching or stuff like that before skating.
Do you still go fishing with you buddy Fabio Montagner? Actually it’s been a while since the last time we went but as soon as the season opens I’m sure we will go again.
a brief glance
What music do you listen to? I have listened to Sistem Of A Down for years and years but lately I have been listening to Red Hot Chili peppers and the Kyuss.
Monty and you were born and raised in the same city, you guys always go skate together…what do you think about him? Is there any competition between you guys? Absolutely not. Fabio is an amazing skater and he often gives me advices about runs I should do during contests. Lately we kind of had little fights but as it happens to everyone it’s all good now. How much pressure does Martinazzo put on you guys when it’s time to get footage for any Strange videos? Martinazzo is really a cool guy. When we are at a spot he always tells us to do insane tricks that maybe he just saw on some videos and we always ask him if he just ate any weird mushrooms. But actually most of time it works and we get those tricks down. Go martinazzo go!
When did you land you full cab flip into the red bank Leo Romero, Spanky, Cory Kennedy, Nestor Judkins and Cairo where at the spot waiting for you to land that trick so they could go to a different spot…were you hyped or under pressure? I was under pressure because everyone was just waiting on me, I felt like I was wasting their time, but at the same time I was hyped since I don’t get situations like that one usually. When I landed it I was so stoked, maybe they took it like a little pause from the tour. Besides Strange skateboards, what other sponsor do you have? etnies shoes, Murder clothing and Flame shop and let’s not forget mom and dad!
