Vans Downtown Showdown. Here we go!
This year we were lucky enough, or good enough, to be invited to the annual Vans #Downtown
Showdown, and after having spent some time with “la crème de la crème” of European skateboarding, now we wanna write in #hashtags, so we can feel less #vintage, and more #chictodeath. The place rocked!. #Seriously (#!!! ) We were almost in the outskirts of #Paris, in a recently redeveloped area. Vans organized something big as always, and the location, la Grand Halle de la Villette, was really impressive. Mr #VanDoren was always around, smiling and having fun, feeling the #vibe, or cooking some hot dogs. #greatguy And when the #boss is around, everything must be #perfect, so, as always, the organization of the event was perfect.
Tons of side events went down around the place, everything for #free, so you can get your #nails colored, or you can show to your mates a new #Rockabillyhaircut, or eat some # sweetwaffle, or watch
some really good street artists working on their pieces, or listen to John Cardiel playing his tunes or just watch the good old skateboarding. Thanks #Vans.
Let’s start with one thing: the #skateboarding was #absolutelyamazing as you can see in this very #specialissue, so I don’t wanna talk about tricks, because I’ve missed tons of them! There were so many that it was hard to take notice of everything -but top-class stuff trust me!
First of all: Luan Olivera is a #skatebeast. Seriously! I know he’s so good that hurts, but watching
him skate in front of you is truly #impressive. He skates faster than anybody, and kills every obstacle
around. #funnyfacts…. When he land a #banger, He’d take a run around the park, pushing full speed, doing flat tricks, and than #boom, he’s back blasting another bomb on the ramp. He’s just on ano-
ther level. Lil’ Louie Lopes, not so #little anymore, is so consistent and skates basically #everything. These new breed of skateboarders are simply #incredible. Juri Facchini is a #Blind am, he destroyed the #Palace box.
Antiz skaters, skate always in double and were having more fun than everybody (and Dallas
Rockvam is my new favourite skater). Everybody in the #Sweetskateboards team is on another level and has his own personal style, and I like it.
It would take too long to describe everything: the vibe inside la Grande Halle was high and skate-
boarding was #simplyamazing. #Europeanskateboarders must be proud of themselves, because here they showed (once again) that they can skate at a high level. Thanks Vans. See you #nextyear.

Palace_
Va Sh
The first idea of Palace guys was to make a 3D rendering of Karl Lagerfeld’s head, with a skateable ponytail. I have no idea about how they would have built it, but it would have been fun to watch it! Probably they quit the idea due to legal stuff. The “Vuitton style” luggage obstacle was skateable and fun to watch as well. And stylish, of course.

This was the most photogenic and iconic obstacle… but it was a skate nightmare. I don’ t know how they could skate something like that, and the way they did! Once again the guys showed how amazing skateboarding is.

Flip_
Flip paid homage to the French flag with this obstacle… Ok, at first I was thinking: “What the hell is this? A 90’s style funbox ?!” After I saw all the great tricks the guys did on it I could say that this was probably the most funny obstacle!

Cliché_
Cliché obstacle was a recreation of the Eiffel Tower pond, also knows as “Le Bassin”, the famous Parisian spot featured in Video Days. The fountain should be empty all year long and it should have a Mark Gonzales monument on the top. This was the last obstacle of the day and two amazing sessions went down on it. It was almost impossible to see all the tricks done.
