Storyline There is a world of sounds and another of silence. Without headphones, silence wraps me in a blanket of spikes, and with headphones the noise haunts me. Where do I belong if I can partially hear?

Artist’s Statement “He is going to take a hammer to strike the silence - to pulverize the silence - to multiply the silence” EMILIO WESTPHALEN At age 15, I found out that I was losing my hearing in both ears. Sometimes it feels like a death sentence. To some extent, my ability to hear has an expiration date and it anguishes me to feel that everything is out of my control. When I started using hearing aids, I discovered several sounds that, until then, were non-existent and I was struck by the abrupt change between these two realities. It was frustrating to feel that everything I had perceived before seemed false. After multiple medical exams, time in the fears, annoyance and disappointments were accumulating. Without headphones, silence enveloped me in a blanket of spikes, and with headphones, noise haunted me. For this reason, with this project I focus on the frustration that arises from the inability to hear clearly. I have approached the project through self-portraits and moving still lifes presented in video format. My goal is to play with the sensations that arise from the mix between the recited words, the accelerated editing rhythms and the images of decontextualized objects. I seek from these images to enter people into my world; a space, where sound turns to dust.
